Failrace
https://m.youtube.co...
Mostly racing game content, makes unique and often silly metagames within said racing games. Examples include: races in GTA 5 where some players are racing and others are shooting the "boopy gun" at them to flip their cars; Races in BeamNG drive against rising water levels and other players, themed in Forza Horizon where everyone has certain restrictions on their cars, etc.

Patman QC
https://m.youtube.co...

Does a ton of mini documentaries about the history of various games and series. Sometimes well known ones like Space Harrier, and sometimes less common ones like Guardians of the Hood.

PSX Gaming Memories

An Irish guy playing PS1 games and talking about them in a really conversational style. He also has a PS2 channel with similar content for that system.

TheLonelyGoomba

“I’m a lonely Goomba, stuck between two pipes. Guess I’ll play this Game Boy for the rest of my life.”

He has good animation, a funny presenting style, and nuanced takes on many classic (or terrible) games. He’s gotten better as the years have passed, to the point of being a great content creator. Highly recommend!

Ahoy is a classic, makes mini-docs on the development history of big games from the 90s (Half-Life, Doom, Quake, Monkey Island, XCOM, etc). He also does a couple other series in Video Game Origins which discusses the origins of certain aspects of games (Explosive barrels, open world games, dual-wielding) and then Iconic Arms where he talks about the irl lore of guns that are popular in FPS titles.

Coding Secrets/GameHut (Same guy. Separate channels, but very similar content so I'm lumping them together.)
https://www.youtube....
https://www.youtube....

He founded TT Games and worked for Sega in the 90s and talks about how Sega, and later TT, achieved things that should have been "impossible" using very clever coding tricks when developing games like Mickey Mania, Sonic 3D Blast, Toy Story, Very cool look at the making of some of your favorite games from the 90s from someone who actually made them.

Summoning Salt - Speedrunning world record history.
https://www.youtube....

Ever wonder how fast you can beat a game? So does he. Takes a game and tracks the speedrun history from the first recorded attempts to where the record stands as of his recording the video. He'll show you exactly who discovered certain tricks to break the games and when, how that impacted their record times, and if possible, what COULD theoretically be done to push the record down even further.

yakkocmn - https://www.youtube....

This one's not a documentary, I promise.
Yakko's a dude who's very passionate about indie games and video game OSTs and he wants you to be too. He'll just spaz out for 30-45 minutes about games he's super excited about at the time. Excellent editing, highly entertaining, and he has great recommendations for indie titles that may have slipped under your radar.

Console Wars
https://www.youtube....

They review 16-bit games on SNES and Genesis and compare them to each other. The videos often feature comedy bits as well. I asked them like 4 or 5 years ago if they had ever planned to do Master System vs NES, GameBoy vs GameGear, N64 vs Saturn and/or Dreamcast and they said that was in the plans, but they haven't done any of those yet, I guess they're waiting until they've done every SNES and Genesis release first.

Oldie but still a goodie. He's made me laugh for years, and it's always comforting when I rewatch an old episode. If you're on the fence check out his Silver Surfer and ROB the Robot videos.

Nintendrew- local YouTube guy, friend of OMG!Con and overall good dude. He made the game CARL, which is pretty fun, especially if you like platformers that are a bit mean. And cute robots.

A couple of funny stories: We delayed our teardown at OMG!Con 2022 so he could have a go at the Wii CyberBike. Nothing quite that cool happened this year; we had to speed up our teardown because sportsball.

We did also send him home with a copy of Slide Adventure MagKid for DS, featured in the Weird DS facts video. It has a place of honor near the CARL plushie.

This is the only one listed so far that I’ve actually heard of. I should check out more of their content because the stuff I have watched is fantastic!

Thats kind of the whole reason for this thread - YouTube algorithm is so skewed towards the biggest channels that a lot of the other ones - even those making excellent content - get lost in the shuffle.

These are my favorite gaming related channels. I watch some others like JackFrags, TheBrokenMachine, VideoGameDunkey, but the ones listed below are kinda more specific to a topic/genre/etc.

For survival horror and Resident Evil games/mods/speedruns:
https://www.youtube....

For before-you-buys, news, and top ## lists, like "top 10 upcoming games" and "10 things I wish I knew before playing xxx":
https://www.youtube....

Great for learning about lesser-known gaming facts and killing time (Like hour long facts videos about PS1 games for example):
https://www.youtube....

Out-of-bounds camera discoveries and stuff like that, pretty neat:
