Well, hopefully we get some news on VI soon, but for now... A subscription service? WTF?

I bet this is a prelude to VI and a requirement to have a subscription to even play the game.

Might just be for GTA online since that prints money. Wasn't it like $500 million a year in profit.

From https://www.sportske...

GTA Online rakes in about $800 million yearly from Shark Cards alone. The new subscription model also provides great deals on Shark Cards, so the sales potential is rising. Since the game got ported to the next-gen consoles, many new players have joined the game. Digital revenue from the game accounted for 88% percent of Take-Two Interactive's earnings in the last quarter.

As long as they make another solid single player game I don’t care how they bankroll it. It’s not for me but GTA Online is massively popular

$800m? Holy crap! Still no excuse (well actually it is) to why it's ten years later and no VI!

It's been 12 years since Elder Scrolls V. Granted, ESO came out 9 years ago, but clearly they see that there is good money in extending the life of games, especially if they're well received. It's a risk to release a new game, especially ones that might feel a bit unfinished.

Also because you really never know how the next one is going to be received. Seems like all it takes nowadays is one flop (or sometimes just not as big a success as desired) and the studio gets shuttered by the parent company and the franchise old yeller'd.

I highly doubt GTA VI could easily fail.

I think that says more about consumers than it does about the publisher.

If we collectively have so little self control that we blindly buy anything with a big name attached to it, i would argue that we are the problem, not the publishers which shovel out crap knowing we will buy it.

Perhaps by having to many releases or making things unprofitable for yourself by having high costs. Fifa, NFL and Call of Duty prove yearly releases work and anything more then that is risky.

I fear companies will choose to go for more established IPs instead of taking risks with something new especially with high development costs.

I wonder if it's a tactic. Create great content, push out a bunch of crap that people will buy until they're close to the point of not wanting to buy anymore, then come out with something good enough to regain interest and sales.

Grand Theft Auto V - 2013
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 2018
Grand Theft Auto VI - 2024 at the earliest?

I know they were milking GTA V Online and making content for it but still pathetic considering how many games they made during the PS2 era. Different industry today I know.

I would do the same to be honest. I don't even know if "milking it" is a proper term. I mean the game is still massively popular and generating revenue, they really had little motivation to come out with a game sooner then they did. Why would you dig a new well if the one you have is still producing? Personally I liked the stability, unlike say COD where you have to get the new game every year if you want to stay current. I mean suppose MW2 and MW3 are bad examples since I think your stuff transfers from MW2 to 3.

Honestly I think there is a decent chance the rickroll is better than the trailer reveal.
