Pick a system, then pick one game for it that never was released in North America (or whatever region you are in) but you really wish it had been.

You can choose as many systems as you want, but you only get to pick one game for each. Cheating and naming two, or including honorable mentions subjects your post to the ultimate punishment: I personally may choose to neg it.

A digital release counts as a release, so no whining that your favorite game got a super limited Deluxe boxset in Germany but the only US release was sold as a code card in a box at Walmart (with a giant "Walmart Exclusive" logo covering half the art).

I'll do one to kick us off:

PS3: Wangan Midnight
As a huge fan of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series, this is the last console release of that series.
Although this one has a manga license attached to it, its gameplay is still TXR.

Tobal 2 for PS1

This improved on everything from the original and I enjoyed this game more than any other from the developer. I was a bit surprised SE never chose to release it here, it was one of the better fighting games on the system.

So basically just an import I liked that would benefit from a US release? I've played quite a few JP only games over the years. Would probably want to pick things that are text heavy.

Napple Tale on Dreamcast is a cool one that could have benefited from a translation.

You don't even have to have liked the game. Just wished it had been released here. Hate drafting is totally allowed. Maybe there is a particularly bad game on a system you despise, and wish you had yet another reason to point and sneer at the system during its heyday.

Nintendo DS: Wi-Fi Taiou Yakuman DS

Mahjong with Mario? Yes please. The wi-fi version of this game specifically so that folks who don't have a ton of local mahjong pals would still have been able to play together (though not anymore since WFC is dead)

It's fully featured, allows for customizable rules, it's zippy, and has great assist features for new players. The only problem is Mahjong is a fairly complex game and the dense rules plus lots of mahjong-specific terminology make it challening to learn, even if it had been in English.

If anyone could have pulled off making Riichi Mahjong more popular outside of Japan, it's the Mario crew, though.

(If anyone needs a copy of this game I always have more copies coming in)

HA! I'll think of some others. One per system is hard. :D

This looks like a game I would have liked to try. I missed a lot of DC imports unfortunately. I should have known better after the Saturn.

I played it back in 2013 with a printed off general translation guide so I missed a lot of the story. Very charming and fun game though. It has a fully playable fan translation now. I've been debating replaying it with that.

Mother 3 Game Boy Advance
Gyakuten Kenji 2 (aka Ace Attorney Investigations 2) Nintendo DS

I suspect they might actually localize Gyakuten Kenji 2 and release it digitally with the first as a combo like they did with The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

Yes I've played them both patched, but getting a official US releases would've been nice for the collection.

DQ11 Nintendo 3DS I own the Japanese version but it’s a pain to play through since I can’t read the dialogue or menus. No English patches either.

I don't know if this counts. It wasn't released here. It also wasn't released anywhere.

I saw a magazine ad in Next Generation for a PC port of Warhawk - the original 1995 PlayStation shooter, not the online-only PlayStation 3 multiplayer fest - that never amounted to anything.

https://vgprintads.t...

I was a big fan of the PlayStation original and wanted the game to see the same treatment that Twisted Metal 2 and Jet Moto did with higher-resolution graphics and 3D accelerator support, plus more control options. I even sent an email to Singletrac to ask what was up, but all they did was confirm that the project was cancelled.

There's a part of me that holds out hope that a prototype will surface one of these days, like the rediscovered PC port of the original Twisted Metal. Seems unlikely, though.

Related I will go with Dragon Quest IV PlayStation . I'm not sure exactly how far along it got but I remember seeing ads for it here in the US. This is kind of a weird one for me to pick but I will explain. After starting with the N64 I got PS1 /2 and Dreamcast consoles next iirc. At some point I started getting into jrpgs (Lunar EBC was the first one I played) and Dragon Warrior (Quest) VII was a title I ended up buying. It was almost enough to make me swear off the series for good at the time. Had IV been released here I probably would have started with that instead and it's a much better game. Thankfully I did grab DQ8 near launch and loved it which got me back into trying more of the series and honestly I find 7 to be the only major misstep. Obviously the first couple are far from perfect but for NES rpgs they are fine.

Disaster: Day of Crisis for the Nintendo Wii. Fortunately there's a PAL version you can play with a modded Wii.

There's English-patched versions out there. I played thru it once in the past and it was amazing. Better than the original. Forgot what I played it on.

There's a bunch, but Resident Evil Survivor with light gun support always boggled me that they took that out of the American release.
That's all we wanted. Also RE Survivor 2

The original was already great, so that makes me want to play the 2nd even more.

Dude that never came out EVER.
Oh man, when Disney gutted LucasArts and we lost all those great games in development, so sad.

I LOVE the original Warhawk. Did you play the Tiger Electronic games version? Its actually pretty awesome, the whole unit is shaped like a flight stick. My brother and i used to try to beat eachothers high scores on beach trips and then on the way home, we'd hope for a bunch of street lights, lol.

A similar thing happened with the underrated, super ahead of its time PS1 shooter, Codename Tenka. It ended up getting a VERY small PC port release. I actually prefer the PC version.

A game that never came out here
