Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.3 million copies, making it the fastest selling Remedy game of all time. I guess going digital only for a full priced game didn't hurt them at all.

I’ve almost bought it a few times. I feel like every time I visit any digital storefront it’s in my face. I guess the aggressive advertising is working.

I saw this on Gematsu earlier. Smoke and mirrors, imo. 1.3 million copies when your development + marketing costs are a reported $70 million isn't exactly great if you do the math. If you look beneath the surface and beyond whatever headline they try to push, I think you see a much clearer picture.

There's this quote from the press release:

"the game has already recouped a significant part of the development and marketing expenses."

So the game still hasn't turned a profit. And Remedy Entertainment's stock is down 30% in the last month which is a HUGE drop so obviously investors aren't happy with the company's outlook. You take Epic's money, you skip over a physical release and you're still in the red.

I don't see how this is positive news. It scares me that a game that had all this buzz and hype is super, super niche. For reference, Granblue Fantasy Relink, a super niche JRPG which came out last week, has already sold 1 million copies. Maybe just maybe limiting the number of people who are able to buy your game that cost a crapton to make isn't' a good idea.

Who's the say it wouldn't be at 2 million or 2.5 million with physical? I personal know some people that won't buy a digital only game. I prefer physical myself but I did buy it.

Same here. I usually buy only physical copies unless forced, like with Alan Wake 2, to go digital l, and I bought it too and loved it. Still wish they gave us a physical option though. Not a fan of other all digital only upcoming big release games like Hellblade 2, but the first one I think was digital only also with a only I think European copies on physical, so that’s not too much of a surprise. But yeah, I think if Alan Wake 2 went hybrid physical and digital it would have likely doubled its sales by now.

Yup and making it so you can’t buy it on steam had to hurt sales significantly as well

Since I am a dollar sign I speak with my money. It is the only power I have. When the rumor came out their next XSX version will be discless (this one is much more solid and likely to happen) I ditched Xbox. I didn't buy baldur's gate 3 when it was digital only and now I have a physical collectors edition on the way for PS5. I won't buy alan wake 3 either. They are definitely missing out on a lot of physical sales, and it's a choice they made. My choice is to not buy it.

Alan Wake 2 you mean right? Unless 3 is on the way and I was unaware.

I've tried to play the Outcast remake demo twice, and both times it crashes within 60 seconds of starting one of the three modes. Which you can only play each mode twice, for a maximum of 20 minutes. And then the demo is worthless as you can't play anymore. And the one mode I can not try again now because it counted both 1 minute sessions before crashing as me completing it. What a joke.

I've played 48 hours of Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. I'm 99% sure my two favorite games of this year are going to be out by the end of this month, this and Final Fantasy Rebirth.

I ain’t buying a pro unless it lets me run all games in 4k 60fps without these different modes. That’s the only way I’ll consider a pro model cause right now my PS5 is just fine for me minus the slight back and forth with graphics options but it’s a minor inconvenience at best.

issue of performance is mostly a game by game basis and the developer. Like, I'm sure some people will thing the Switch 2 will play the new Zelda games out of the box at 60 FPS but it doesn't work like that unless they update the games as they were made targeting 30 FPS. And knowing Nintendo you'll be paying full price all over again for ports.

Personally I don't see a need for upgrading to a Pro model just like I didn't bother with PS4 Pro. Even on the base model PS4 late in the system's life I was still impressed with what that system was capable of graphically, Horizon: Zero Dawn and the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy especially, and I played them a few years after they each had released.

Seeing the FF7 Rebirth Demo suffer on PS5, was a bit alarming. Hopefully will be better come release, but wouldn't count on it. Games are kind of already bottlenecked on current hardware, it's gonna get worse.

Still, unless there's a compelling need/reason, I agree, will wait for PS6.

I only picked up the PS4 Pro because of the Million Edition was just too damn cool. Really wish we'd go back to Translucent designs!

Ya I'm thinking about playing the trilogy on my laptop or on PS6 instead of having any performance issues.

RDR 2 pretty much melted my base ps4 so I upgraded at that point. I’m not seeing anything push ps5 so hard so far.
