I've been seeing ads on Facebook for these: https://retroshooter...

It got me thinking about how much I missed played light gun games and how modern solutions don't work perfectly. So I went digging for my old stuff and took a photo of the GunCon specific stuff:

For those wondering, those pedals were sold by RedOctane when they still existed.
I also have the big boxes for some of the games, but was too lazy to pull them out for the photo.

I used to have Point Blank 2, but traded it away on here.

In my recent research, I learned a few things:
1) I don't have Time Crisis: Razing Storm (PS3) which is a compilation for Time Crisis 4 + Razing Storm + Deadstorm Pirates (the latter 2 which were separate arcade shooters).
2) The GunCon 2 does not work with PS1 games played on the PS2.
3) The GunCon 3 does not work with PS2 games played on a backwards-compatible PS3.
4) There was a Japan-only PS2 compilation called Gunvari Collection + Time Crisis that had Point Blank + Point Blank 2 + Point Blank 3 + Time Crisis.
5) There was an 2016 arcade release called Point Blank X.

You brought back some memories. I played Point Blank 2 and 3 so much, those were the times. Is there any light gun game released after the Wii / PS3 era?

In arcades for sure. On home consoles not so much.

Wii was really the last system that natively supported then out of the box with the Wii Remote, and PS3 had Move controllers that worked just as well, and both systems had a small smattering of light gun games released on them.

You might be able to find some psvr games that offer a similar experience?

$110 works on most TVs and monitors and is great. You need a decent PC. PSVR also had some light gun games such as Until Dawn spin off. I think Sinden is better since of the support for arcade titles as I don't see myself buying an arcade machine or traveling to Dave and Busters again.'

Wii is also great played, Ghost Squad, some third party games and House of the Dead. Probably spent 100s of hours playing House of the Dead.

I just dug out my Nyko Perfect Shots for the Wii. I still have all the light gun games stored on an external HD which works on both my modded Wii and Wii U. Gonna play some of those games with my 5-year old on his next day off from school.

Sega also had a good selection of light gun games between Saturn and Dreamcast. Unfortunately none of them work on current HD set ups and need CRT televisions.

Loved playing Ninja Assault on the PS2. I still have a great Sony WEGA CRT that works like a charm. This thread might inspire me to see if I can track down a few of these titles. I imagine them and the controllers would be cheap.

I have Guncon 2s somewhere. Also have Point Blank 1 and Elemental Gearbolt (one of my coolest retro games) for PS1. TC3 and Vampire Night for PS2, Razing Storm on PS3 and Ghost Squad on the Wii. I absolutely looooooved light gun games growing up. I played so much Lethal Enforcers on the Genesis.

Japanese versions of most of the games are quite cheap. And they follow the House of the Dead rule of bad but fully English voice acting.

The guncon 2 controllers are not as cheap.

We just picked up the gunvari collection (all 3 point
Blanks plus time crisis) for jp ps2 because getting the US games and guncons was going to be a bit pricy. Plus there aren't really any other ps1 gun games I would want to play (as lovely as elemental gearbolt looks, I never really enjoyed it) so having everything on ps2 made more sense.

So... PSA on the guncon 2. Apparently there is a separate pass-through cable that you also need in order to properly hook these up to your CRT.

The Guncon 1 for PS1 has a pass-through port built in to its cable but I guess in order to provide better cable length/distance from your TV, they made it a separate cable for the Guncon 2.

One end is a T-shape double female end that you plug the guncon 2 into (one cable supports 2 guns). The other end is also a T-shape with a female plug on one end that your ps2 av cable goes into, and a male on the other that goes to the TV.

Watch out when you're buying Guncon 2 controllers to make sure you get one of these cables. Otherwise ebay sellers want $30-$40 for just the cable alone

I was able to get a 20" Toshiba CRT in good shape for $20. I'll post pics later.

Good thing because my original FAT PS2 laser has crapped out permanently I think. I tried adjusting the gear to adjust the laser height again which fixed the issue previously years ago, but I think it's dead Jim. I was able to get it to read a blue CD game 1 time, but that was it.

I just learned about Free Mcboot and running games off an HDD with OPL (instead of HDLoader). I was able to use a PS3-PS2 Memory Card Adapter that I had to setup my own Free Mcboot Memory Card.

Now running the games off the HDD and playing Guncon games is tight.
