Open world and games as a service are in vogue, but what have you played recently that bucks the trend? Ideally a 10ish hour game that gets to the point and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Cuphead sounds like it fits that description. There are a few fillerish achievements in it, but you can ignore all those and still thoroughly enjoy the meat of the adventure.

Tunic. Action adventure game in the style of classic Zelda with it's own twist.

2 great games listed. Cuphead was pretty difficult but satisfying to beat. Tunic was my personal GotY in '22 and it was just lovely throughout.
I'd add Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion to the list and Unpacking. TBCTE is just good fun and an enjoyable story. Unpacking is relaxing and has a good story too.

@SupremeSarna I loved Cuphead, but I didn't end up getting the DLC. My save is long gone, and the thought of replaying a lot of the game seemed daunting. I'm really surprised they didn't release it as a stand-alone sequel.
@SwiftJAB I was too dumb for Tunic. Didn't last more than an hour or two with it.

The physical version of the game comes with the DLC pre-installed, and you can access it from the very first island! I highly recommend it. Esther Winchester (DLC) is the best fight in the game by a country mile.

The recent remaster of Ghost Trick (12 hrs at howlongtobeat)
I've also heard good things about Hi-fi Rush (though that is listed at 11 hrs for main story or 60 for completions)

What Remains of Edith Finch is really good if you don't mind it being pretty short and a walking sim. I'm not usually a fan of walking sims, but this was powerful and has stayed with me.

Does Pikmin 4 have bloat? I can't think of any part of it that specifically wastes your time, unless you count talking to NPCs at your base to get/finish side quests. Every part of the game serves its purpose to explore, strategize, obtain treasure, and defeat enemies. You don't have to go for all platinum medals if that doesn't appeal to you, but I found it a satisfying challenge. (It's also way more doable than Pikmin 3's DLC stages.)

They're not SUPER recent, but both SteamWorld Dig games, and SteamWorld Heist. Also, The Messenger (although, I'm sure there are some who consider the second half of the game to be "overstaying it's welcome").

The Callisto Protocol, lol. It was a nice brief 10-11 hour game and I wish more single player centric games were about that length

I've been playing through Devil May Cry V and I think that fits the description. If you're just looking to play through the story mode and not going for 100% it should only take you 10 or 11 hours, plus the game is fun to boot.

DMC V had bloat in the form of mass cheese via story and voice acting. I couldn't keep playing, I felt over burdened in some stinky ass cheese. Sad because I finished all the prior installments. Kinda regret not finishing it now.

Ah, the good old days when you could beat a single player game over the weekend. Now everything has to be at least 50 hours long.

Yep. I had to finally just decide that a game is over when I stop playing it.
