In addition to the recent landslide (something that I didn't even know about until some peeps here posted) in PNG, there is a potential risk of unrest due to a new government being voted in or something like that.

So, our dental outreach size is slashed to 14 personnel involved and we're sending our own vehicle along in case of an emergency scenario. This was in addition to a riot that happened in January this year regarding police personnel not getting paid, which caused some rioting. There was a team in Australia who reconsidered going to PNG for outreach befcause of this rioting and they chose to go overseas anyways. Thankfully nothing happened.

If you're religious, do please pray for me and my mother - her group is in Fisherman's island and will come to Port Moresby this weekend, IF things stay safe enough.

Our senior personnel will constantly run a risk assessment which is very reassuring. Nevertheless, the many changes between this country and Australia are rather interesting.

If you haven't figured it out yet, it's not well known PNG stands for Papua New Guinea in the states. Hopefully the more you update us the more known it will be here.

Are they talking evac yet for you guys?

This landslide sounds like it’s quite a bit more devastating than first thought.

Yes, I know you said "PNG" in your first post. You know what PNG is to me? An image format.

Sorry, us dumb Americans don't know what the heck "PNG" is. That is why I was confirming you meant Papua New Guinea after I had to Google it.

Thankfully not, but it meant that the outreach number of people were halved. But that was only for one day out of a week, and it's safe to travel again. As far as I know, as long as we go out in groups.

Also, thanks for the reminder! I should be much more specific, it's a habit I have to generalise far too much. Sometimes it's fine, but there are things that can mean totally different things to what you originally think. For example, RPG can mean role playing game or Rocket propelled grenade (LOL), FPS can obviously be First person shooter or frames per second...and the list goes on. People need to put things into PROPER context before assuming! and I'm too guilty of this haha XD

Indeed, it could possibly mean the TYPE of file that a picture uses. Exactly what I was saying above, that certain acronyms can be TOTALLY out of context if used too randomly.

The problem here is almost no Americans know PNG is an acronym for Papua New Guinea likely due to it being on the other side of the world. We only know it as Papua New Guinea with no abbreviation. I assume the airport is PNG?
