RIP Steve Harwell, lead singer of Smash Mouth. Had been battling alcoholism that ultimately lead to liver failure.
Never too huge into Smash Mouth myself but it’s impossible not to know All Star if you were around in the 90s. Yet another “you’re getting older” moment for us. Best wishes to the guy’s family and friends.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I read that he had a 6-month old son die in 2001 to Leukemia, and that seems to be what triggered the alcoholism. Really sad

Yup -- that is accurate from what I've seen over the years. Basically, his son died and he never really recovered.
