My wife is heading out to Seattle for three days for work and I'm tagging along. We're actually going from September 5th to the 12th, but the 5, 6 and 7th she will be working and I'll be on my own.

Anyone know of any good record stores/thrift shops/camera shops/etc?

Thanks for any input!

I don't know about the record stores, thrift shops, or camera shops there, but I loved MoPOP. Also, when I was there several years ago, there was an oddities shop near the water by the aquarium with a bunch of wild stuff (shrunken heads, a tigerskin rug, etc.). I'm not sure if it's still there or what it was called though.

I've never been there, but I'd take a tour and visit if I ever did end up in Seattle.

If your staying downtown the best record store I can think of is Silver Platters SoDO. There are multiple locations but this is the only one in the city proper. If you don't have a car you can take the light rail and get off at the SoDo stop. If you're up near the Space Needle there is Light in the Attic, but it's pretty small. There's also a small record store in Pike Place Market on the first floor down from ground level called Holy Cow Records. Again, really small but if your at Pikes anyways (which I highly recommend if you've never been) it might be worth checking out. Theres also a pretty decent comic and anime store in Pikes as well.

I never do much thrifting but I would imagine Capital Hill would have some good spots. I know you're into movies, the MoPOP is a pretty good pop culture museum near the Space Needle. They had a really good horror exhibit awhile back, not sure if it's still going on. Best view of Seattle in my opinion is Gas Works park (actually where I proposed to my wife), cool to check out if you have a car.

Can't say I have any recommendations for what you're looking for. I've been a couple of times, here's what I recommend:

- Chihuly Garden & Glass - try to catch the glass blowing demo if you can (https://www.chihulyg...)
- Starbucks Reserve - get the whiskey-barrel aged cold brew (https://www.starbuck...)
- Take a food tour of Pike Place Market. I can't remember which one we did, but it was great to get some history and sample a bunch of food.

Agreed on Chihuly. It’s pretty impressive.

I often check the Yellow Pages (yp.com) for bookstores, etc., before I go somewhere. You do need to confirm any hits with other websites because the information is often out of date.

I used to live in Washington State, but only went to Seattle a few times. Everytime we went, we had to go Ye Olde Curiosity Shop. It's worth checking out.

That was the curiosities shop I was trying to remember the name of! That place was wild. I remember the shrunken head collection.

Yeah, they have some strange oddities in there. I remember the shrunken heads. There was also a real mummy or two in there. I remember that they actually had Mexican jumping beans! I didn't know that they were real before I went into that store.

Having a great time. Yesterday I walked 8 miles. Hit up Glazer's Camera and Sub Pop records and some thrift shops.

Today I am trying to hitch on to the little tour that Microsoft is doing for the group my wife is with. The fish market and space needle and stuff.
