I watched a bit of this when it first came out on Nickelodeon. I was intrigued, but didn't really follow it for a couple of reasons. My kids are old enough, so I bought the series. Really enjoying it. One of the better animated (anime?) series, maybe top 5-6. Haven't finished it yet, got 1.5 discs to go. Will probably get Kora after this as the kids are into it.
Heard they were making an animated movie... will see how it ends.

Really? I heard it was trash. Not quite DBZ or Street Fighter live action movie trash (two levels there)... but bad. For that reason I avoided it. Was I misinformed? (I assume so, or I'm missing sarcasm) As I said, really enjoying the series so far.

a third animated series is in the works, and Netflix is trying again at a live-action series of the last Airbender where m. knight shyamalan failed, both are due out in a few years

Even my wife seems to enjoy it. Only downside is they watch it when I'm not home so I've missed about half the episodes. :(

It's bad...like, really bad. Just wait for Netflix's adaptation and see how it goes.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (animated series) - Great. Truly some of the best storytelling I've seen in American animation.
The Last Airbender (movie) - Directed by M. Night Shyamalan and as others have already said, it's complete garbage. Not worth watching.
The Legend of Korra (animated series) - Better animation and choreographed fight scenes, but a weaker story imo.
Upcoming
Avatar: The Last Airbender (live action) - Live action adaptation produced by Netflix. Cautiously optimistic, but the original creators left the production years ago. Supposedly over budget concerns and a darker more mature tone.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (animated movie) - Produced by Paramount with the original creators at the helm and a theatrical release on October 10th, 2025. It will feature an adult version of Aang and his friends, which most fans are eagerly anticipating.
It's reported they will release three additional series and movies on Paramount+.

Strange to me that M Knight Shyamalan directed it. To me it doesn't seem like his MO. I associate him with movies that have twists.
