Three Silent Hill games, Silent Hill movie, Resident Evil 4 remake, Callisto Protocol, Alan Wake 2, Dead Space remake... Wonder what triggered this new life into the genre? Odd that we're getting so much at the same time.

When do we get a new Alone in the Dark?

Sans Resident Evil, what has really been worthwhile for quite some time?

My problem being I am absolutely tired to death of remakes. I think there was pretty good justification for remaking games like RE 1 and 2, that were extremely aged and benefitted from some serious overhauling, but imo, RE 4, Dead Space, and SH2 are all games that are perfect or almost perfect as they are and there's no real gain in making them all over again. I really wish we could get some original projects for these IPs, especially since Dead Space 3 was a giant jar of poop juice. I also saw the upcoming remake trailers for RE and SH and I'm not a fan of the tonal shifts and the aesthetic changes that were made for seemingly no reason. That being said, I think some of the graphical improvements and the gameplay changes look impressive,

I don't really care enough personally to play the remakes (I've already played the originals, so I don't see the point), but I'm happy for people who are excited for them and I'm sure they'll be fun to play. Meanwhile here I am in 2022 playing thru the original Dead Space again and thinking to myself, "I don't know how you could improve on this". But for me, considering that if the SH2 remake and RE 4 remake do well that could mean more original titles, I'd be onboard.

No clue honestly as I’m not a huge fan generally but i feel like ive come across a lot of survival horror games in the last few years, maybe more indie titles though. And VR and multiplayer only type stuff

Really excited for Dead Space remake. Dead Space is probably the series I find myself most reminiscing about or wishing I could go back and play again.

Very interested to see what they do with Calisto Protocol.

@BioHazardMan - largely I agree, similar to Last of Us. Yet, for me, it's a reason to go back and replay it. Graphically, they're all quite good, but clearly, they're making them even better. Doesn't justify the price tag, obviously it's a cash grab, but to me, it's a push to go back and play a game I really loved. I'm not gonna break out old systems to go play Dead Space or Resident Evil 4 ... give me a slightly updated version to play on modern platforms? I'm in!

Still, wish they'd focus efforts on older games for remakes/remasters/reboots, whatever ... Yet, Dead Space / RE4 - I'm pretty stoked for.

God I hope the SH2 remake is good. I don't have a ps2 anymore and the HD Collection runs like trash on ps3.

Did I miss a remake of the first Silent Hill, or are they just going directly to SH2 because that's the one most fans seem to like the most?

I like that Capcom has been remaking the Resident Evil games in order so it's easy for newcomers to just jump right in and follow along, though I suspect after RE4 they wouldn't bother doing RE5 and RE6 (they each sold really well, but a lot of the fan base seems divided on whether or not they like them) and will just go straight for Code Veronica.

@PizzaTheHutt I suppose you COULD say they remade Silent Hill 1 since they released "Shattered Memories" back in 2009-2010, but even having played that myself I wouldn't call it a proper remake/reboot of the original since it's pretty dramatically different from other titles in the franchise despite being a retelling of the story of the first game. As a big SH fan I really would have preferred a remake of the original since the jump from PS1 game would be significantly more drastic than remaking SH 2 which in my opinion wouldn't benefit nearly as much as the original could from having a modern remake. That being said, it seems like SH 2 is really the game that draws the MOST ATTENTION for general gaming audiences and is usually considered the best, so I guess it makes sense business wise to go with the second entry.

So it will probably be another title.

That's a bummer. I would love a CV remake. But honestly after 4, I hope Capcom gives Resident Evil a break. I would love for them to go back and remake/reboot Dino Crisis. I know it doesn't have the commercial appeal that Resident Evil does, but I bet it'd sell well if done properly.

I wouldn't mind a remake of Alien: Isolation with enhanced graphics and ground up VR support. The VR mod is epic, but you have to use mouse and keyboard or a controller.

Silent Hill 2 was a masterpiece. I am glad it's the one they are remastering. In case you didn't play I will put into spoilers about the ending

So I know there was multiple endings but it was VERY FUDGING DEPRESSING to fight so hard just for my character to suicide at the end. What the hell

Still would replay 10/10

RE4 is great too but for me didn't seem like a Resident Evil game, probably due to it mostly being cult members. But I will be getting that also.

I've always loved survival horror.

I remember enjoying Silent Hill 2 at release but I barely remember it. Will be fun to replay it going into it with little memory.

I think it stuck with me so long due to the ending I got shocking the hell out of me. I don't remember much of the rest of the story.

During Playstation's show they showed some new game that looked like a new Parasite Eve and I was so disappointed it was something else. But a true revival is due. That game series was great.
