Yeah I couldn't play it for more than 1 chapter at a time in one sitting without getting overly agitated.

Just played through the Maiden demo for RE8. Looked absolutely fantastic visually, and the setting was super cool. Genuinely creepy too without a bunch of jumpscares. I may pick this up (though I'm a wimp, I still haven't finished RE7).

I feel yah man. I looked up that the demo was only 15 mins or so if you knew what you were doing, so I booted it up late night before bed so I could finish it and delete it to free up space on the SSD.

Just the initial setting freaked me out. I turned on the light in the room before I continued playing lol.

The RE7 demo also freaked me out and it's a game I haven't played yet either lol.

I got through the first quarter or so of RE7. I do plan on finishing it at some point. Just hard to work up the nerve sometimes. The shift to first person really does make things so much worse.

For sure on that first-person view. I tried the RE7 Kitchen Demo on PSVR at my friend's place and that crap freaked me out. Playing the whole game in VR mode would scare me to death.

Yeah... I do not think I could handle any RE game in VR. 7 would be heart attack material.

You have two choices. RE7 VR or Alien Isolation VR (this does exist on PC with mods, I believe)

What would you rather play?

Both sound like I would not physically live through either... lol. But if I had to choose a way to go, I'd pick RE7!

RE7 VR is probably the best VR game I've played. It's fantastic.

Multiple authors expressed their disappointment that RE8 won't get any VR mode. Though I wouldn't have messed with it, I do see how it could be disappointing. Especially if they moved away from PSVR exclusivity. High-res headsets on a beefy PC could have some serious potential with this one.

I took a good 10 or so screenshots playing the demo yesterday. Playing in 4K and with the gorgeous ray tracing made it look utterly amazing. Only thing I was disappointed by was

I thought the texture for the daughter that bites you was a little blurry/unrefined.

Im hooked with Everspace: Stellar Edition. Ive never been a huge fan of Rogue-like games but the space shooting makes me want to try again everytime.

I bought it at the current PSN sale for $10 i think. Well worth it.

I also bought Elite Dangerous but I havent played that one yet.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected {PlayStation 4} 7/10
My history with this series: I pretty much 100% completed everything there was to do in the first two Saints Row games' story modes (except the stuff that required multiplayer), then my co-op partner and I 100% completed Saints Row The Third and enjoyed it a lot (it was her first time playing a Saints Row game). It seemed each game got more over-the-top than the one before it, so we were looking forward to playing this one too, but I feel like it wasn't worth the wait.

This one is easily my least favorite of the series and almost feels like a step backwards in a lot of ways compared to the previous game. It feels more like Crackdown than Saints Row because of how you can now leap over buildings and glide through the air. It makes traveling by car feel useless in comparison and you probably won't spend much time in a vehicle unless the mission requires it.

I can understand if the Saints Row humor isn't your thing, but I personally enjoyed beating people up with a giant dildo in Saints Row The Third. But in this game a lot of the humor just seems to be random for the sake of being random. That isn't to say the game isn't funny at all, because it does have its funny moments. I had a couple of laugh out loud moments during sections like where the game suddenly turned into a 2D beat 'em up parody of Streets Of Rage, or the choose your own adventure text section. Those were some of the highlights of the playthrough for me. Basically if you just stick to the story mode that's where all the fun stuff happens and it's the side missions that were kind of lame and drag the game down if you're the kind who likes going for 100% completion (we're still working on that but sometimes I regret even suggesting it).

As for the low points, the gameplay feels too repetitive, way more than the previous games. Granted it is typically during side missions where you are often just doing the same old crap over and over. I especially dislike the ones that make you clear out waves of enemies and then one big enemy at the end called "Warden" who is just not fun. In fact a lot of these enemies just aren't fun to kill but Warden is the worst, and I hope they don't do this alien invasion crap again in future entries of the series. That was a lame decision.

Overall if it wasn't for some of the funny moments during the story missions I'd say this is probably closer to a 6/10. And while Saints Row The Third got a full remaster treatment, Saints Row IV was just given the quick and low effort port treatment. The graphics were barely improved over the last-gen version and we also experienced glitches that made us have to restart missions and each of us has had the game crash and kick us to the console's home menu more than once. We are looking forward to eventually trying out Gat Out Of Hell but I hope that turned out better than this did.

Posted this on Xbox series x thread, but posting here as well.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood is rather lame, to me. Combat itself is fun to rip crap up, but the game is devastatingly boring. Factories, warehouses, dams, etc, all the locations you go on missions look exactly the same and consist of the same thing. Sneak by some, tear through others. Some cool ideas with the spirits and all that don't seem to have much bearing on anything other than them saying "Yeah we believe that". Its a $20 game at best. Maybe it will pick up but I think I'm at least a third through the game, and its been pretty dull - which, in a game about werewolves, is a gigantic missed opportunity. If I had to score it now, I'd give it a 4, maybe 5/10, but only because of the werewolf part.

Been playing EA Criterion's 2006 title Black via EAplay now that it's part of UGP on X1. I own a copy of the PS2's release and know I played it way back in the day. Imagine that I got it for my modded Microsoft Xbox but for some reason picked up a PS2 copy. I wasn't super interested in beating games back then, so I'm not completely sure if I beat it or not. I certainly recognized the first 2 or 3 missions.

It's clearly a dated title and was all about the explosions, which to it's credit are still pretty satisfying, the audio is still great as are the pre-mission scenes. Controls on the other hand are a bit of a mess. I've beat 4 of the 8 missions now so it's maybe a hair late to consider changing the button layout, if I even can. They're certainly not what has become standard with A as reload, LT is throw grenade, zoom/look down sights is click R-stick, cycle btwn the 2 weapons you can have is left or right on the d-pad, so it's strange. Don't think there's a sprint action either which stinks when a rocket launcher dude is all over you and splash damage from any explosion will harm you.

A few other negatives are that enemies are bullet spongy unless you can land a headshot and if so you can drop them in 1 hit. The missions also are really long, taking upwards of 45+ mins even if you're not taking your time to explore/seek the hidden side things to collect/destroy. That's not necessarily bad, but there aren't any checkpoints where you can respawn if you die - fail at the final encounter and I'm fairly certain you've got to redo the whole thing. I died once on the last mission a good 15 mins and and after a point where I couldn't backtrack and had to restart. Health is relatively abundant as several foes will drop med kits on death, they only heal 25-33% (I think). You also can carry up to 3 bigger med packs that heal 66% or more. Since you can't jump, even small ledges become backtracking blockades so a boatload of ammo or health can become useless to you if you're pressing too much.

50% in and I'd give it a 6/10 - which is lower than I would have thought, I do recall feeling like it was a better title ~10 years ago.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Nintendo Switch The Demo

Solid. Pretty enjoyable so far.

Been trying out the demo. A couple of hours into it.

I like how you can run without stop. No stamina bar or anything. That's a big plus.

The mini

forge

is a pretty neat item. Very convenient.

One confusing at first part was how to use items in battle. I'd be at low hp, but couldn't access my bag during battle, and could only heal with items in the field; in battle I could only cast the heal spell. I finally decided (a couple hours in) that it did not make sense that items couldn't be used in battle. Really did not make sense. So I played around in the menu a bit. Thankfully figured out that you simply just need to swap the item out from the bag into the character of your choice's inventory.

I like the characters so far. And the accents of some of them. It's not quite an English accent. To me it sounds like a British accent mixed with something else. Not sure what. For example, parts of sentences are being pronounced similar to an English accent, but then certain sounds like 'r' are not pronounced how I'd expect them to be, considering the accents being used. Imagine the statement "a stick of butter." So, someone raised in England would probably pronounce butter something like this: buh'uh. But in this game, it would be more like buh'uhr. I wouldn't expect the 'r' sound to be pronounced, based on how they talk.

Anyway, enough about that. This is about the game, not the linguistic aspect of it. wince

I like the little flashback/recap scenes that play when you continue from where you've left off. That's a neat feature.

The story catches my attention. It's slowly being fed to you in a way that gives you bits and pieces to put together, and is enticing enough to make you curious, but I guess that's exactly what a story driven plot should do.

One thing I don't like is that the minimap at times seems counterintuitive. I think I should move the controls left to go seemingly left, but then the icon on the minimap moves right, and the other way around. Can be a but irritating at times when it happens. But not a very big deal, and certainly not a deal breaker.

I'm impressed so far with the length of this demo. Makes sense from a marketing perspective; the more content provided, the more of a chance someone might potentially buy the game after tasting the demo.

I'd also like to try out the 2D version option that's available in the non demo version. That's a cool feature to implement, to play a recent Dragon Quest game in old school 2D. Good for nostalgia. I guess I can look it up online.

There's like, 40 different dialects in the UK, so if they're actually using British actors and not just Americans faking it, then it could just be one that you're not as familiar with.

@benstylus Fair point, and I'm no dialect expert. What you're saying could very well be the case.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb-Microsoft Xbox 5/10

This game aged like milk and it shows. The fun moments like beating the crap out of people and solving puzzles whilst listening to that classic Indy theme are tarnished by broken platforming that hinders your progress and fun factor severely. I had to stop playing after the halfway point when I couldn't connect with a few jumps and grapples so much it rendered my hp down to nothing for the next segment in which your hp does not refill upon death for some oddball 2003 reason.

Yeah, I remember liking that when it came out, but it was clumsy even then. I can't imagine giving it a go now.
