We've had these books for awhile, but they're not read anymore. These are used, some wear, but nothing heavy as far as I can tell.

Any interest?

1st set:

2nd set:

Some of the bottom pictures look like some of the books are wet. It's just shadows and lighting.

We've also been watching a bunch of 70's and 80's Poirot movies the last few weeks, so it was weird that this post came up.

The Peter Ustinov ones are pretty good (late 70's/80's) - Evil Under the Sun, Death on the Nile. Lots of Hollywood stars. I used to see these versions on cable as a kid in the 80's.

I just saw 1974's Murder on the Orient Express with Albert Finney as Poirot, which was really interesting. And again, tons of of-the-era Hollywood stars.

We've seen the first Branagh version of Murder on the Orient Express from 2017. His mustache is nuts.

The Finney Murder on the Orient Express and the two Ustinov films Evil Under the Sun and Death on the Nile seem to be the high point. Later 80's Ustinov (he did six films) start to feel like TV specials.

And yeah, his mustache is something else:

These books might be worth money some day, since Agatha Christie books are apparently the next set of classic books that will be censored/mutilated, 1984 style, in the name of wokeness. In the future it may be hard to find the uncensored versions:

Like these "issues" that people create these days? Things that are really not issues at all but created because people are just bored.

"Digital versions of new editions seen by The Telegraph include scores of changes to texts written from 1920 to 1976, stripping them of numerous passages containing descriptions, insults or references to ethnicity, particularly for characters Christie’s protagonists encounter outside the UK.

The author’s own narration, often through the inner monologue of Miss Jane Marple or Hercule Poirot, has been altered in many instances. Sections of dialogue uttered by often unsympathetic characters within the mysteries have also been cut."

wry smile *sigh*

Why can't people leave things alone? These are mystery books. It's not like they're some kind of violent manuscripts that teach terrible things/whatever. It's like some people are determined to desensitize the world by becoming unnecessarily oversensitive to things that aren't issues.

HarperCollins started publishing amended versions of Agatha Christie novels back in 2020. Why do you suppose Daniel Greenfield decided to write his article for frontpagemag 3+ years later?

Bookbanning is egregious and both EXTREME sides are guilty. I like to think most of us don't give a crap and understand times were different.

To think these 'banned' versions will be worth money someday is a bit farfetched. Even today's publishers are releasing the original publication of the book along with an amended version:
