NFT are stupid.

Crypto is the future. If anybody is looking to start buying, let me know!

I'm against both of them. I'd call them ponzi schemes but that is a disservice to Charles Ponzi.

This guy explains most of my feelings pretty well, and it's way faster to link to him instead of type it all out myself.

As a site of collectors, it seems absolutely silly to me to completely write off NFTs. I guarantee the vast majority of users here have bought games with the intention of never playing them and just collecting them...which is what alot of people are doing with NFTs. It's more akin to sports cards, IMO; however, from a collecting perspective, it's really the same thing.

The argument of "well I can just download a jpg of your NFT" is the exact same thing as "I can take a picture of your game cart" that you will never intend on playing. On that note - someone who wouldn't be into sports cards likely won't just change for no reason, and I wouldn't expect the same for NFTs. I don't try to convince people to get into it because if you don't already, I have no interest in making you into them.

Crypto for a vast majority of use cases is dumb. The blockchain in theory is simple, extremely usable tech which is being undermined by stupid crap like an infinite amount of "inu" coins. There are a TON of really interesting, highly viable uses of the blockchain, cryptos, and NFTs I've seen - but the majority of them are being outshined by the stupid crap.

All forms of currency are based on trust. When you accept any currency for your labor or goods, you trust the person giving it to you that you can use that currency somewhere else to purchase an item of roughly equivalent value. The US government guarantees the value of every US dollar. Who is actually backing the value of any crypto currency?

As I understand NFTs, they are the equivalent of a copyright or trademark. Is it worth it and can you afford to track down everyone who steals the image and uses it for themselves?

Adam Ruins Everything explained how the values for "fine art" and "precious stones" are manipulated by small groups. Like all collector's items, they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

For the record, I also am against the idea of collectible sports cards.

Collecting something just to have it is silly to me unless you are a museum or library or something.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but:

Games Collection (737)

How much action is Fishing Masters on Wii getting?

*If you have a museum or a library, I do take it all back*

I'm not saying I play everything every day, for sure. Some games I get just to see how bad they are. Other times I'm pleasantly surprised.

And Fishing Master is certainly not as good as Fishing Resort.

But those were purchased for my father in law who was going through a very rough period and we thought a Wii and a few games an older gentleman like him might enjoy would help.

For the record, though, I do help staff a local convention with an awesome video game room (which is furnished mostly by staff sharing their collections).

http://omgcon.com

We haven't been able to have the convention the last couple of years due to covid, but we did have a mini event in October and I brought a number of systems and games.

Also for the record, as far as I know nobody at OMGCon has specifically requested to play Fishing Master. But it's there if they want to LOL

You should come in 2022, and request it in the game room.

That is awesome you help with the con, I was just paying devil's advocate there, but again, no hill I'm going to die on. Between this and the 'influencers' thread on here, people have some much random hate and anger that could literally be used for anything else.

I'm definitely digging the feedback. I have noticed it's very 50-50 with it and the NTF's are very spotty I'll agree.

Yeah, and I'm sure there are games in my collection I probably won't ever play again.

The difference between games and sports cards / nfts is that I'm never buying games as an investment i.e. with the expectation that the value will increase substantially so that I can then sell it for a profit.

I do sometimes buy games that I think will increase in value, but that's usually games I want anyway, and I buy them so I don't have to pay the higher price later.

Mostly though I'm thrilled when a game I like gets a price drop or a re-release.

NFT's are ridiculous and meaningless and are just tapping into the need some people have for collecting stuff. I can't get my head around why someone would pay money to be labeled the "owner" of a JPG that has been on the internet for a decade, that anyone can right-click and Save, and it potentially exists on millions of PCs. The only reason is for bragging rights...which mostly relegates NFTs to the more wealthy.

If an NFT give you ownership of the digital item with permission to license it for physical/digital reproduction works or merchandise, I can see the value. Outside of that, the bragging rights of "I own a digital item" are pretty stupid. The whole concept of a metaverse and digital assets is just a new way for some people to make money off of other people.

The same thing can already be done just as easily without NFTs. People have been doing it for centuries.

Dumbass boomers will write off crypto and NFTs but Blockchain games and NFTs are going to play a HUGE role in gaming in the future. Imagine playing an MMO where you actually own all the in-game items and not the game creator.
