Description

Job For A Cowboy - Genesis

This band started out a few years ago as a promising new act in the death metal scene which was quickly filling up with tired acts that all sounded the same. The new things they brought included a more melodic styling in a sense, amazing pig squeal vocals, and lyrics that every other word wasn't an expletive.

Their first release on a major record label (Metal Blade) drops almost everything that made their Doom EP spectacular. The pig squeals are gone, as are the higher shrieks from Doom. All that's left is a generic gravelly death metal growl/scream that sounds like almost every other band in the scene. This directly leads to the unfortunate realization that you don't even REALIZE the track has changed from song to song. They all sound essentially the same.

As death metal itself goes it isn't bad, it's just all been done before. Granted, the vocalist knows how to scream and the drummer is actually decent. If you like death metal, you shouldn't have a problem with this, but it could have been soooo much better.

Picking out a specific band to compare them to would be pointless, because they sound like every other death metal band. You name it, they copied it, badly I might add. On a high note, the track embedded shows great promise, and starts good, but quickly descends into another monotonous death metal song that blends with every other track.
