As most people know, Limited Run Games doesn't have a good reputation. Between very slow shipping, lack of updates, milking gamers for every penny, high shipping costs, etc. The list goes on. Anyway, I have always defended them. I thought it was cool they produced games that may have never got a physical release. After my most recent interaction, I can no longer support them.

A few months ago, they mailed out 5% off coupons with certain customers orders as a "thank you for waiting so long for these games." Ok, 5% off is pretty pathetic but fine I'll take it. I placed my first order in about a year this past Friday but the coupon they sent me wouldn't work. It kept saying it was invalid. I knew that games can often sell out fast so I placed the order and emailed customer service. Any normal company would just give me the 5% off and I would move on. However, LRG came out swinging. They told me I needed to cancel my whole order and "try again" with the coupon. I explained to them that isn't possible because items have already sold out and the whole reason I contacted them is because the coupon didnt work. I explained to them I was sent a 5% off coupon for being a loyal customer and would appreciate if they could just credit me. They refused and said again, I need to cancel and reorder (not possible).

I then came back and asked if they would rather lose a customer of over 8 years who has spent $1000's of dollars over a 5% off coupon (that they mailed me mind you)? This was their response.

"Since you are unwilling to perform the only solution we can make, there is nothing further we can assist you with.

I am sorry, but that is the final word on the matter. If you do decide you would rather not purchase from us in the future, then I wish you well in your future gaming endeavors."

So long story short, LRG is a crap company who has no idea what customer service means. Why would you mail out invalid coupons and then not honor them? Any other company would just make it right and move on. LRG deserves all the crap they get as they truly are a terrible company. Just sharing my experience in hopes that others don't make my mistake and order from them again. They are giving Gamestop a good run as the most terrible gaming company in the world.

LRG has always been an investment. You give them money- eventually they’ll commit to giving you a game- a game that is no longer a limited run, not usually exclusive to them and often does already exist as a physical media. The FOMO zeitgeist sort of came and went across the board. CEs, LRG, every over priced physical/ collector piece has been done to death. Ironically you lose money as soon as you press buy.

But hey, they do sometimes print a shmup with a little more English than the ones I could get somewhere else for a decade or so.

Totally pointless amount, I agree. I'm mad based on the principle that they mailed out coupons that don't work and refuse to honor them. I know I'm not a one off as I have seen others have issues with these coupons not working.

They do sometimes make games that I'm interested in playing though. There was a game called Bug Fables that I heard great things about. Supposedly similar to Paper Mario. If you prefer physical over digital, and it's exclusive to lrg, then why not?

That’s exactly how they expect consumers to think. At one time, it was actually like that- you’d get a limited physical release that wasn’t available anywhere else. Now they have month long pre order windows and titles you can buy at brick and mortor etc. They’ve ridden the FOMO wave all the way to being a rote distributor of near shovelware. Good for them, it got bigger than they ever expected, but their initial, publicly stated mission does not exist anymore. They’ve also sold to embracer group so I’m sure they are trying to keep the facade of being the two good ole boys who just wanted to publish their digital games.

Why would they give a single crap about their customer's loyalty when their scheme from Game 1 was taking any old piece of crap(See: Breach & Clear, Saturday Morning RPG, Octodad, Kemco RPGs, etc, et al) printing a thousand or so copies and making profit off the FOMO. They don't need you at all. You, however, are entirely dependent on them, and will be for the foreseeable future if you want that 400+ playstation 4 shovelware collection to still be complete.

They were initially releasing their own stuff from Mighty Rabbit Studios- that’s why it was junk- but they sold out of the 1500? Or so copies in like 100 minutes. So they decided it was a good time to promise a whole bunch of crap and get pre paid for it. Initially it felt like a Ponzi scheme of some sort- and then it felt worse as they sold batches of hundreds of titles and took sometimes a year or more to ship them. I remember arguing with them about how shady it felt on CAG back then. Josh always said “we can’t afford to do this if we don’t take your money and spend a year getting it done…”

Yeah ok, that’s basically a shovelware kickstarter. But I’m bitter so bleh

I've purchased some books from them. The month long wait for shipping on a book that was listed as "in stock" was quite lame but if they're the only outlet selling it, you gotta either bite the towel or walk away.

Doug, one of the original founders of LRG is a good dude. He regularly posted on the CAG forums for a while. I know he no longer works at LRG since shortly after the embracer group bought them.

I am really just shocked at their lack of concern for brand imagine. They mail out coupons that don't work and instead of just crediting me $10, they would rather be nasty and lose a customer that has literally spend thousands of dollars since the beginning. The whole point of the coupon was to generate some goodwill (thanks for waiting a year on your games), yet they have even managed to mess that up. Any normal business would just admit the mistake, say sorry, and make it right.

I think Castlevania Advance Collection was an exclusive LRG release. That's a pretty cool game to have a cartridge of.

But coolness aside, it is sad when customers don't receive good customer service. Good customer service/good people skills should perhaps be the #1 rule of someone in that role.

LRG is trash and has always been trash, they exist only to milk gamers who like physical games and suffer from
FOMO. They’re very consumer-unfriendly so this doesn’t surprise me at all, I just wait for their crap to be clearanced at Best Buy if it’s a game I care about , or just ignore them altogether

This is all you had to say. That group is horrible and has laid off SO MANY devs since their shady azz Saudi oil blood money $2bil deal fell through - seriously F those folks...

Also 5% doesn't even cover the tax in my state, I fell your grift, but 5% is a joke discount.

They don't have the market cornered, but their customer base is made up people who think they do. If you want something badly enough and don't have any other options, you'll put up with a lot of bullcrap. Good on you for not falling for it.

Yep. I’ve been going for a full Xbox set since they started doing Xbox finally and this company is a freaking mess. The one saving grace is that their final products are actually good. But I’ve waited on average 1-2 years (literally) for everything I’ve ordered. Their customer service is non existent, their tracking system is a joke, and every so often they send out a “we hear you, we’re going to improve” type message and then nothing changes.

I can deal with this to a degree but I’m close to just saying fudge it. I had such high hopes when they announced Xbox games. I thought stuff like Celeste, Katana Zero, Cyber Shadow, etc would maybe get releases. Instead they’ve released like 2-3 actual hits (River City Girls 2, CV Advance collection) and the rest was either VERY old ports or just outright shovelware. It blows my mind that they operate the way they do.

When they started doing switch they basically started all over with the previous vita / ps4 release schedule. I’m sure they’ll do something of the sort with Xbox- a ton of already released volume they can sell through.

Limited Run Games..er scammers.
