24 years ago today...after a hiatus from video games, I picked up my preorder of the Sega Dreamcast along with Mortal Kombat Gold and Powerstone. A few months later, I found this site and still remember when I had the DC, a PSX *and* a N64 in a row in my college bedroom. The idea of that being anything important is laughable now but I grew up a little poor in the 80s/90s and if you had ONE console; you were doing great.

That was such a fantastic launch day. Took the day off from school and had a blast playing with my cousin after picking ours up from the mall.

I know I played the hell out of mine. I didn’t buy it at launch but ended up finding a college student sometime in 2000 selling a Dreamcast package for a pretty good deal at the time because he wanted a PS2 like everyone else. I think I still have that system but I can’t remember because I did so many deals back then. I still have multiple DC consoles. One day I’d like to get one of those fancy modded ones.

I had my Dreamcast preorder for at least a year before launch, I was a big Saturn fan at the time and fired up about the next system coming out.

I had a Dreamcast maybe around 2000-2002. I traded it to someone here in 2002 for $75.
I remember being really into these games for it:
Seaman, Omikron: The Nomad Soul, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and Shenmue
I made some changes to gametz (perhaps it was still ugtz at the time) so that you could use the site on the Dreamcast web browser.

I imported it a few months before 9/9/99. Good memories.
Fun fact: I used the Saturn Netlink to browse UGTZ back then.

I remember going back and fourth to the mall returning Blue Stinger and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing. I had to end up sending BS in for a replacement copy and I think I ended up swapping R2R for Sonic or Powerstone.

Everyone talks about how mind-blowing Mario 64 was at launch. That's how I felt seeing Soulcalibur for the first time.
I have such a soft spot for that console. I bought it right before the final price drop and played the crap out of it my freshman year of college. Marvel vs. Capcom was definitely the standout.
To this day, Crazy Taxi is one of the few games to give me actual blisters.

DOA2, Power Stone 2, Shenmue, Third Strike, Mark of the Wolves, Guilty Gear X, and Virtua Tennis all took a lot of my time. One day I need to go back and finish Skies of Arcadia.
Did any of you play with a VGA box on a PC monitor? Man, did that look good.

Let's face it, Blue Stinger was clearly the definitive launch title for the DC.

I got one eventually, but my TV was larger, so I still preferred to play it there. I hear that there were a lot of subpar boxes on the market, so that may have been why.

Thanks! Yes, definitely go peruse when you get a chance. I try to keep everything as up-to-date as possible.
Fun fact: two new DC games were just announced. They're developed by Nape Games, and will be ports of NES games they crowdfunded. I have their preorder info in the Commercial Indie Game Releases Thread.
Indie 'Rocket League' homage 'Driving Strikers' was also just released physically and digitally, and has cross-play online-play with Dreamcast!
I unfortunately did not have time to play any Dreamcast yesterday. It was just a busy day. I want to start 'Starfield' today, but I might have to spin a few GD-Roms first.

Not on a PC monitor, but on my OLED via the OSSC. Looks great, but still has its limitations for non-VGA supported games (I also can't get various SEGA Sports games to play this way). I'm seriously considering having the DC Digital Kit installed. I'm not quite confidant in my soldering skills to do it myself, and there are individuals/websites that will do it, but either way, it isn't cheap.

I use a Scart cable to a CRT and PVM, prob the only way to easily get those 240p games working.

I'll share my recent Dreamcast pickup with the group since its anniversary is upon us. Lunar has already seen this but I thought it was super cool.
