Falling out of collecting all titles.

I was originally planning on collecting all NES games but it’s kinda wearing down on me. I’m holding on to too many games I’ll never play. I’m looking at you Sesame Street ABC/123. I may actually cut back and only collect my favorites and hunt for home brews.

Anyone else ultimately go this route with a system?

I'd only really consider smaller full sets. For most systems, I'm doing smaller curated collections of titles I like.

I just stopped adding as aggressively to my collection. But I don't plan on cutting back and getting rid of anything .. yet.

I can’t bring myself to buy the last Virtual Boy game. I just can’t justify dropping over $150 on a bad licensed game.

I assume WaterWorld? I used to own that but got rid of it long before it was worth that much (Jack Bros. too). It should be worth closer to $1.50 if a game's value was determined by its quality.

Correct. I figure I could get lucky one day, but I’m not holding my breath.

If we want to be technical, I have every game ever alphabetically ordered by region on a sd card in each of these analogue systems. But I still like physical carts.

I think space is definitely a consideration. Not all of us have entire rooms we can dedicate shelving to accommodate full sets. If they are in tubs instead of display ready, I imagine the chances of you picking out random NBA Live 95 to play is little to none.

I'm with @Gypsy on the smaller sets. I don't have any complete sets myself, but if I were to attempt one, it would be the US NGPC. I had a ton of fun with that system as a kid, and most of the titles are average to good. For the most part, I don't think it would cost those far reaching figures for those with less disposable incomes. Neo Geo AES, I'm looking at you, hehehehe.

Don't really have any interest in the full ps1/ps2 set myself. kinda prefer to just go after and complete the rpg subset of both consoles.

I had a full us Dreamcast set once.

After realizing how many terrible games I bought "just for collection purposes" I realized it was a stupid thing and sold the whole set at once.

NGPC has gotten expensive lately. Magical Drop Pocket and Shanghai Mini are in the $350+. I'm currently missing 6 games for the complete US set, but idk if I will ever get it, considering 3 of those are casino games that nobody wants to play but everyone wants to sell for hundreds.

I was all in on NES and SNES games a few years back. I had a pretty sizable GameCube collection too. Then I started looking at how much money they were going for and realizing that they were just collecting dust and I would never play 99% of them. So I started selling stuff a few years ago, and I don't regret it at all. My "collection" is very small now. I just focus on stuff I actually want and will actually play.

I just sold a ton of my PS1 games, and it's honestly a relief to be rid of them. I'll probably get rid of a vast majority of my game collection over the next year or so. Having less clutter is a good feeling.

I'd have a lot more figures if space constraints for the boxes wasn't an issue. Maybe a blessing in disguise loool.

Pretty much doing this with HAL Laboratory games... well, most of them. Can take or leave the games that were only published by HAL. And Metal Slader Glory can fudge right off. It's rubbish. Graphically impressive rubbish, but still rubbish nonetheless.

Yeah I didn't care for that one, or Policenauts. I really enjoyed Snatcher though. Wish it would be released on a any kind of modern platform. Maybe rights issues.

As someone who has a full NES set (sans Stadium Events) all I can say is I would never attempt it now. I finished my set probably 13-14 years ago right before prices went insane. For instance, I bought Little Samson when it was $50, lol. I look at prices now and think nope! I’d never attempt it again.

If it makes you feel better, it felt kinda hollow finishing it. Like afterwards I was like, “whelp, now what?”. I’m currently halfway to a full N64 set but some days I’m really questioning it. I guess some personalities like us just need to keep questing for new things to accomplish.

As much as i've love the full n64 ntsc at once its a lot easier said than done. I think i'd still try trading for it all loose, but cib collecting on that console im kinda just over it. PS1 i have no interest going complete and am only looking at this time for the full ntsc rpg set.

I've had the PS1 rpg set before but it's been many years. What titles do you still need?

@Gypsy It's still kind of a mixed bag on what i need. some high ends plenty of lows and mids. When i get the list of what i still need i'll shoot it your way was going to post a LF thread when i do also. my best reference is here knocking this to alphabetical and going through imports as well since i might as well just go big or go home on it.

https://www.listal.c...

Doesn't account collectors and limited/variants, but atleast its a base start for reference. Really think thats more attainable than the 64 one complete

I compiled a list here but it's kind of buried in the thread. There is also some additional discussion on it as I missed a few. It's definitely not a massive list and very doable for domestic releases.
