Currently has a May 12 2023 release date. That's just over 4 months away. That's not so far, but there isn't that much known about it.
Here's a video that has the reveal trailer and other info that has so far been released.
https://youtu.be/30D...
Is it unusual for such an anticipated title that's only several months away to not have much known about it?
I don't usually follow games along their pre-release stages, so perhaps a lack of info is standard.
Personally, I'd rather a lack of info when it comes to games that I plan on playing. I don't care for spoilers, or to watch every trailer that comes out.
I'd have thought there'd be more out about it though. But again, I don't usually follow along with the progress of game development.
Definitely a game I'm looking forward to though.

I was just looking at speed runs on YT, and 48 minutes is the fastest one so far, I think.

Loving the game so far, just not too pumped about the major lag I’m experiencing when using Ultrahand. I’m sure that’ll get patched soon enough though.
Slow down, dropped frames, pop in, glitches, etc. I'm like 8 hours in or so, 17 shrines, multiple towers, the game has many of the flaws BotW had, and more new ones. There was a banner in one area that was moving at around 1 frame per second. Some will get patched out, many won't. All that said this game is a fudging blast so far! I haven't put this much time into a game in a day since possibly RDR2, if not that then definitely BotW. It's early, but I could easily see this knocking BotW out of my top 3 all time.

Haven't played a Switch game at length for ages. Always hard to go back to these controls from playstation/xbox. I find myself consistently screwing up the controls. Is this just a me problem?

Man, these shrines make you feel dumb AF once you figure them out! Very cool and all, but man some are tedious and frustrating!

No, the controls for some things are just wonky.

I've only run into 1 so far that I didn't know what to do after a few minutes. In fact I decided to end my gaming session early so I could reset and try again later.

Resting on it was a good idea. Took me less than 10 minutes to get it this morning. This is the first one that was not intuitive at all for me.

The lady just asked me if I’d pick up the kitchen a bit “after I play some Zelda”. I said yes knowing full well that there will be no “after”.

Ran into some fun shrines kind of like Eventide Island. Really enjoying shrines in certain areas over others. It seems intentional.

This game looks pretty good. Expected much worse. My 7 year old’s first Zelda.

The frame rate dip is very noticeable when playing docked.
I played 3.5 hours last night just to get thru the “intro” part of the game.
With 2 kids now, not sure if I will be able to put in anything close to the 170 hours I put into BOTW.

gosh darn that just made me feel old as hell. Even compared to when BOTW came out. A whole child was molded since that game released. Existential crisis: commencing.

8 bit Ganon was a tad different than mummy/zombie Ganondorf spewing black and purple crap all over Link.
That said I found your daughter's response hilarious. Different kids handle things differently. My wife said no to them playing it for that cutscene. I think they'll be fine, but I will honor her decision. Not judging anyone.
Only two more towers to go, then I'll go back to the main missions. Upgraded stamina once to a full circle, debating on going hearts or the second circle next. Currently have 2 upgrades waiting, and 4 more shrines marked. Love to explore.
Kind of disappointed in the treasure chests this go round. BotW you got good stuff (50+ rupees, new outfit pieces with unique benefits, strong weapons, rare items), in TotK it's common bows, arrows, other half-assed stuff. In BotW you'd find a chest with mostly good stuff on every other peak or lake. Not so much here. Was really hoping they'd throw an homage to BotW like having the climbing gear hidden at dueling peaks. Not a huge deal.
It's still been fun exploring the mainland and seeing how it's changed. Also digging the (a little more than typical zelda) subtle story so far. It's great having BotW setting the stage for this game so far.

So, I realize this is the TotK topic, but any tips to make BotW better? I'm gonna give it another go soon. Should I go for certain areas/items ASAP and then putz around exploring after? Anything to help

Yeah two different thoughts there. The reminiscing is not related to the horror scenes in TotK. Definitely not what I saw at her age.
