Wii Remote and Nunchuk are implemented well enough, but they are definitely a tacked-on experience.

plus it's mirrored on Wii I hear. Still if you consider how expensive it is on cube and cheap for Wii. I'd get it for wii. I'm personally waiting for a switch remaster. If it never comes, I'll just get it for Wii.

Though on the flip side, I'm hearing great things about the Metroid Prime remaster for the Switch, and that was also a GC release.
I wonder which games are especially fun on the Wii, more so than on other systems, simply because of the nunchuk wiimote usage.

Link is a lefty, traditionally.
On the Wii version, they made him right handed to match how the majority of people would use the wii remote.
Doing that might impact how some areas play out (if you are on a narrow mountain pass, you might free be able to swing a sword on your left side, but not the right side because mountain is in the way), so they left/right flipped the whole game world.
Either that or it was easier to flip everything than to reprogram only Link.

I remember going to Best Buy a few weeks after the Wii came out when we heard a rumor of a re-stock. Sure enough, there was a line when we went before opening. We managed to get one, but forgot to grab Twilight Princess, which was just on the shelf. My brother and I were able to get a copy, but our friend wasn't able to at first because all the copies were gone, but then some lady put one back and he snapped that one up.

The Metroid Prime Remaster improved controls by giving the option for modern controls, but kept the options for classic and motion based. I don't recall many options in TP Wii. That said, the Wii version is fine to play. In some areas it's better than the GC version imo, in others not so much. Similar to BotW with Wii U and Switch.
Play it however you can for what you can afford if you want.

I'm finally playing Twilight Princess (HD). I played it once a long time ago on Gamecube but didn't make it super far before giving up on it. It was just during a weird time period of gaming for me, and I wasn't in the right mood to fully enjoy and appreciate it. So far, it's pretty awesome! I love that it has the graphic style of OoT, only much better. I'm not too far into it yet, but it's really looking like this is going to beat OoT for me. It just seems like it's going to be better all around.
I remember being giddy the first time I played TP, but I think it gets a bit tedious. It doesn't hold a candle to OoT in the long run.

You know how in a mirror you're not really seeing what you look like. because you see your right eye on the right, but when you take a picture you see it as other people see you. With your right eye on their left. Basically they "FLIPPED" the entire game. Everything is left is right, and right is left. If link had to make a right turn in the woods, it would be a left turn in the wii version.
yep and as was explained above, they did it bc link has always been left handed. But since the majority of ppl are right handed they mirrored it for the wii since people would hold the wiimote with their right hand. Which would feel weird seeing link hold the sword with his left. I though I'd just add my thoughts on this topic even though it was already answered.

I wonder if people who played the original version noticed the change on the version. It's the kind of thing that might slip below the radar for some.

If they bought the official guide they sure noticed. All the maps would have been backwards compared to the game

I'll definitely report back once I've finished the whole game. I'll be honest, I don't LOVE the wolf sections. They're ok, but I'd much rather just play as Link in the Twilight Realm.

Been putting some time into Burgertime, love that game. But yah, they friggin need to get the GB Donkey Kong on here. I don't even care that I played almost the entire thing via emulator recently, I'd play it again so hard if it was on Switch.

Have they announced if they are releasing any mainline Pokémon games on any of the Online platforms? I'm not a fan, but I'm curious if my kids would play them.

If you're close they are easy to rack up. There are weekly and monthly tasks that take seconds to do, if that interests you.
They limit it 1 set per account, otherwise I'd have ordered 2. (1 for me and 1 for the kids)
Edit: Just got to thinking, I should check my wife's account and see if she has enough.

A friend of mine is looking to get a few Switch games for a couple kids he knows in a low income family. He doesn't know the Switch very well though, so he's asking me for recommendations, and I was wondering if anyone here can help out. I'm trying to think of games that are good, but can be bought used for relatively cheap. Unfortunately, that eliminates most 1st party games. The only one I've thought of so far is Immortals Fenyx Rising. The kids are 9-10. Any suggestions?

Minecraft, Mario vs Rabbids, Lego Games (City, Star Wars, etc), GOAT Game, Untitled Goose Game, Dragonquest Builders, Unraveled 2, Scribblenauts Mega Pack, NES/SNES/GB Online, Blossom Tales, Fall Guys, other free to play games, Super Luckys Tale...
Switch games go on sale all the time. It's easy to rack up a bunch pretty cheap. Buy e-shop cards on sale to increase the discount.

Well I'd argue he's doing it more for game preservation purposes than for clout, if that makes you feel any better. All the consoles and SD cards the games are downloaded on are getting donated to https://gamehistory....

So, I tried NSO Gameboy Tetris multiplayer...
It was really choppy online. I can't imagine the original gameboy cable transferred much data, but that amount of lag and rollback stuff was just awful.
I then tried it with local wireless in the same room as the other switch, and while it was better there was still some noticeable stuttering here and there.
Anyone else have issues with it?

Anyone playing the Return to Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells? I just recently started playing Dead Cells again since it initially launched on Switch. Just played through DLCs (Fatal Falls, The Bad Seed, Rise of the Giants, The Queen and the Sea) in the last few days. Probably gonna pickup the Castlevania DLC tonight and play it. I forget how awesome this game is and how it continues to be supported. Switch performance is pretty abysmal now through when talking about load times.

So I’m charging my Switch via cable, not the dock. When I put it down last night, it was very low battery, so I imagine putting it down without powering it all the way off (just to sleep) drained the rest of the battery.
But now when I’m charging it, the screen stays on (black) with the little charging icon up in the left hand corner. Am I crazy or does the screen usually go to sleep while charging if you don’t touch it? Or is it normal for the screen to stay on to show you the indicator when plugged in as opposed to docked?
Little bit worried that my Switch may have crap the bed. It does SAY it’s charging, but I feel like the screen staying on would only work against it charging properly.

@theJaw I saw your post yesterday and was going to say it should go away when charging, but Anxious seemed pretty confident so I figured I was wrong. But I plugged my Switch in to charge just now and the charging indicator did go away after a couple seconds like I thought. It's in sleep mode though, not shut down completely. Maybe if the Switch is completely off, then the indicator stays? I'd test it but I have a game suspended right now.

I believe the indicator stays until the Switch has enough power that it can be powered on. In the case where a Switch's battery is completely drained, it could stay on for a while, especially if it's getting charged by a lower watt charger.

When I plug my switch OLED back up. Say I have 97%. Say the screen is off, the system is in sleep mode. When I plug it in the switch immediately "wakes up" to show the screen, then the charging icon shows on the top left. I like it that way because it confirms for me my plug made a successful connection. But I always push the power button on the top right to turn the screen back off. You should be able to turn the screen off if you want to.

Last year I had something similar happen were I was playing until really low battery. I then plugged it it to keep playing via cable and it appeared to just die. It seemed I could charge it but couldn't turn it on. I thought it was toast, but found some video online and tried what they said and was able to get it back. I think what worked for me was doing something with the power button, I'd need to look it up. If it comes to it just be sure you pull the memory card as it will delete the contents. You will also need to redownload game patches. But at least you can use it again.

It’s no worries now. After about a half hour it just popped back on. I had just never realized that the blank screen stays on while charging if it’s completely drained. Like Scott mentioned, usually when it’s low and I plug it in, it pops up for a second but then the screen goes to sleep, so I just got a little worried.

I think you hold the power button and down volume button to access a hidden menu where you're given a few options including factory reset.

I like the look of the kickstarter game better than the new reboot look. Something about turning the maps into a board game is really off-putting to me. It's the exact same game, but now instead of commanding an army you're playing Risk. Hopefully they offer a different view or classic graphics.

Loving Octopath Traveler II. Started with Partitio. Played his first Chapter, then played Hikari’s first chapter after I found him. I like the route of my story so far. The “main” character (or, my main character) comes from the more humble, small beginnings and sets out on a grand adventure. Then like all those classic adventure anime shows, meets up with vastly more “interesting” characters with stories that exist on a far larger scale.
Pretty neat. Looking forward to what else is to come.

Went tonight grabbed $10 eshop ($5 pro reward monthly) and asked about the preorder was $50 for the console so I didnt ordered it. I just opened a 2nd Animal Crossing Console in the past 2 weeks. Sounds like the Zelda Console isnt Limited may pop in and out like the Pokemon/Splatoon 3 OLED. I may be better off stalking @DarkFact post/topics when he sells his Zelda OLED after a few weeks of owning it for like $300

I like the 2nd switch for shared digital. My wife takes the switch over for Tetris 99 Pacman 99 and now Frogger. I dont even leave joycons on it as she only wants to use the pro controller.
Personally I would like to play more PS5 but it is on that same TV . I busted out the 3DS and was enjoying it so decided to hookup the 2nd switch.
On the switch colors, to each there own. I do like Zelda so it temps me to get the New Zelda OLED. We will see if I can hold off.

It's it just me or has the eshop been sucking lately? I've got 20+ games on my wish list (mostly metroidvania and rogue like games), and I'm not seeing sales on my most wanted, and a couple have received just a little discount. I think axiom verge 2 was discounted from $19.99 to $15.99 a few weeks ago, and now rogue legacy 2 is offered for just 15% off from $24.99 to $21.24. Dang, at least give 25-35% off.

So my kid is getting much more into Nintendo and ... the switching between console is a pain in the ass.
I have a regular Switch, and a Lite. I have both of us on both accounts with Nintendo online accounts.
All the eShop purchases are under my account. He can play the game on the primary Switch under his own account, but when attempting to use his account on the secondary (Lite) console - it doesn't let him.
Is this expected or is there some other bullcrap workaround I need to do?
Really feels like this needs to be more seamless in 2023!

On the primary system for the profile that downloaded the game, you can play under any profile.
On any other system (non-primary), you can only play under the specific profile that owns the content, AND it will check the internet to verify.

I mean, I get it ... it helps to prevent account sharing in a way, but like ... for real use cases like this, super annoying. My kid should be able to access my library, especially when he has his own Nintendo Online account, that's part of my family plan. If a secondary account is in your family plan, they should have access to your library under their own account.

Just make his system the primary system. Then, he can play under his profile and you can play under yours. The only annoying this is that you'll need to connect to the internet every time you try to play an eShop game.

How do Sony/MS handle this sort of thing?
Sony has a similar "primary system" requirement in place although you can designated both a PS4 and a PS5 as primary systems and play ps4 games unrestricted on both.
I think it's probably not as big a deal because there aren't any portable PS4/5 systems so people are probably not buying extra systems for each kid

That's kind of what I thought. So it's odd that Nintendo is always getting called out for this.

So your brother can access your full PS4 library, and your sister can access your full PS5 library? How many people can you set up this way? What paid service (if any) does this fall under?

Also; I would’ve had to buy two copies of Splatoon 3 for my gf and I to play. Instead, and I think this is actually the benefit to all of this, I buy one digital copy, download it to both consoles, have my lady play on the primary on her profile, I play on the other under mine(since I own it) and BAM! Two players on one purchase of Splatoon. There are some ways that digital is definitely better than physical.

I do know with a PSN account, you can have a Primary/Secondary console, and I think it applies to BOTH PS4/PS5.

Let me see if I'm following correctly. The check on the secondary system only checks that the profile isn't playing the game?
In other words, you're able to play on your profile on a secondary switch, this is allowed because your profile on your primary isn't playing it, and your gf is able to play on her profile on your primary Switch because there is no check to see if the game is being played elsewhere due to it being the primary switch?

I think any “checks” that it does is to see if you own the game. Your assessment is still correct but I think it’s because on my primary switch that SHE is playing on, it doesn’t check because the primary one lets others play anything I own. Then on the secondary one that I’m playing on with My profile, it only checks to see if I own it, and since I do, I’m on my way.

I don't know where else to post this, but the game is on Switch via the NSO Genesis app. Anyhow... I really want a sequel to Comix Zone. It's ridiculously unforgiving but I finally beat it a while back using save states (no shame), and I found out how short it actually is. When I beat it, I found myself really wanting more. I looked up if there was any sequel, and it doesn't seem like there was ever even talk of a sequel. There was an unrelated game called Unbound Saga that has a similar "move through comic panels" gimmick, but it looks sorta rough and reviews are pretty awful.
I'm surprised there aren't even any fan games or romhacks to make a new adventure out there. Looks like Comix Zone is just going to be an anomaly of 90s gaming, but I really wish someone would reboot the franchise.

Anyhow, I've played through a good chunk of Octopath Traveler II and am still enjoying it for the most part, especially the visuals, music and combat. And to be honest, I do enjoy each character's individual stories when viewed in a vacuum. They're interesting and the characters are cool. There are just two elements of the game that are starting to wear on me a bit:
-I don't know if this changes, or if we truly just focus on each individual character's stories as we find their chapters, but I really do sorta miss the JRPG trope of a LARGER story that connects these characters into one focused objective. Final Fantasy being an obvious example - you still amass a vast cast of unique characters with their own stories and motivations, but ultimately they're all going after the big world-ending threat. While I do somewhat appreciate the lack of the cliche that comes with said "world-ending threat", it does make the individual stories seem a little less important and makes each one seem inherently small in the grand scheme of things.
Each story is only important to one character at a time, and the other characters are just there for the ride. Again, I don't know if any larger event arises later in the game, but it hasn't been introduced in my play-through yet so I assume it doesn't. I'd really like an Octopath Traveler III to keep these smaller, character-driven stories, but also play around with adding some overarching narrative thread that connects each character's story into one big story as an endgame scenario or something.
-And the my other small hiccup sort of piggybacks off that last one. I've now played through a decent chunk with my core 4 characters and gotten them up in the mid-20s as far as levels go... so I now find myself sorta dreading any time I stumble near a new character who I've yet to meet. I always feel obligated to play their first chapter when I find them considering that's sorta the whole point of this particular game, but at this point it just feels like replaying the game's tutorial. The first chapter for each character is a very simple portion where you learn the first bit of that character's story, learn what their initial abilities are, and then face a boss to cap it off. So at this point, having played long enough with certain characters, I find myself not wanting to have to pause my play-through to play yet another tutorial section.
And going back to my first issue, any time this "first chapter/tutorial" situation occurs, I find myself thinking "what's the point?" because there's no LARGER story to build toward. It's just the start of another small character-driven arc, so it feels more and more arbitrary to keep starting each character's story.
Sorry for the essay, didn't realize how much I typed lol. TL;DR - I still enjoy the actual gameplay and the core concept of OT2 is still very cool, I just wish there was something more to drive my interest as far as an overall story goes. I am still looking forward to seeing how a few of the characters' stories develop and where they ultimately end up, I just wish they factored into some greater good or larger theme to keep me interested overall.

I just went through the process of requesting a refund from Nintendo. I've heard it isn't something they grant easily, and the game in question was on sale for only $5, so it wouldn't be a big deal if they declined me, but the entire process was really simple and I got my refund in under 3 hours even though the guy said it could take up to 5 days for them to get back to me. I usually dread having to contact customer support of any company, so I'm glad this went as smoothly as it did.

I'm not listening to Charles Martinet for an hour and half straight. Great in games, would be horrible for a movie. Glad he got his cameo though.
Also, all of the voices in the movie you can immediately place but Pratts. I wonder if they did some sort of modulation to his voice due to the feedback.

He was perfectly fine. 90 minutes of "let's a go" and "Wahoo" would'he been unbearable. Of all the main cast, the only one I didn't like was Seth Rogan as DK and, if you count it, Fred Armisan's character.

Like Wreck-It Ralph, there are two ways to watch the Mario movie. You can watch it like any other kids movie and appreciate the animation and in-jokes, or you can treat it like an Easter egg hunt and spend the 90 minutes looking for references and callouts.
If you do the latter, you're going to have an absolute blast. They range from unmissable (what Mario does after dinner) to brilliantly subtle (the book by Mario's bed).
If you do the former, the movie is a hard meh. The animation was gorgeous, the character designs were faithful (even Prattio, I guess), but the screenplay just doesn't do justice to so many characters. Bowser was S-Tier. Toad and Luigi were B- or a generous A-Tier. Every other main character just didn't have enough good dialogue to work with.
The line I kept repeating to myself walking out of the theater was "That was a lot of fun when nobody was talking."

I had an absolute blast with the Easter Eggs and references. I didn't expect much from the plot, and honestly, I couldn't care less about the plot. I loved how they really worked so much from the games and from the world of Nintendo into a 90 minute movie. References to old games like Wrecking Crew, Kid Icarus, and Punchout. References to characters/enemies from every single Mario game. There were references to to every game from Donkey Kong through Mario Odyssey. I loved how they made the 2D levels that we play as "Training Courses" in the Mushroom Kingdom. I loved the ending when Mario had to get up to Bowser's Castle and how they flew through powerups.
Jack Black was great. Every other voice actor was fine except for the two I mentioned (DK and CK). It was a fun movie. Anyone going in expecting anything more substantial than that is going to be very disappointed. People complaining about "not enough Yoshi" or they didn't show X character enough or at all need to relax. There is only so much they can fit in a 90 minute movie, and they will DEFINITELY have sequels.

benq 3550 and elite pro accoustic motorized screen. It's nice, it's 50/50 fabric/pvc. I had a 100% pvc screen and I felt like the new screen absorbed the light even better. It felt like going from a projector throwing an image on a screen, to looking like the screen lit up like a TV. The reason I had to go to sound transparent is so I could have my speakers behind the screen. Because I went from 100" to 125". And at that point I have NO more room under or to the side of the screen. It takes up my whole wall in the L shaped room.

Now's definitely not the right time for me to go for this. With the upcoming Zelda game and me being in middle of other games. It's obviously tempting, but going to have to say no this time. Now if they were to offer a b1g2 on brand new 1st party games, now that's a different story :)

Wow, the Mario movie has eclipsed $700 million already worldwide. I thought it would do well, but I didn't imagine it would be one of the top grossing movies of the year like it looks like it may end up. It could eclipse $1 billion in a week or two (month total).

Interesting the Genesis gets a Street Fighter release. Can we control it with 6 buttons, or are we stuck with the crappy 3 button control?

Two more surprises:
Free game trial is Star Wars Republic Commando. Is this the first trial for an old port?
There is a new Tetris Maximus Cup event this weekend. When was the last one? I haven't seen one in ages... did I miss some?
Also, Advanced Wars Reboot drops next week?

@KCPenguins Not sure about Street Fighter, admittedly not much of a fighting game guy.
Oddly enough, I was just considering downloading Republic Commando on Steam because it's already in my library from a past Star Wars bundle. I was somewhat intrigued but wasn't in the mood at the time, but I just downloaded the trial on Switch and will give it a go when it launches on the 20th. If I dig it, I'll honestly probably just download it on Steam haha
In other Switch news, just realized the Oregon Trail remake got a new weekly challenge, Night Terrors, that sends you off as pioneers with an empty wagon, whose morale lowers every night (they're all afraid of the dark) and it rains every day. That's brutal. Apparently there's some new DLC coming out for it too. I've really been enjoying the Oregon Trail remake, it's a great progression of the very simple game all us 80s/90s kids remember from those grade school PCs most classes had.

I assume it depends on the version, but the ones I played it was pretty easy to complete the trip. At least one person will die 9/10 times though... that was the best part for some players, those us of playing the "educational" game when green screens and macs were new. @nonamesleft Definitely possible. I could never do it, but I saw kids do it. The remake is still pretty unforgiving, but you can pick up from the last major landmark you make it to if you die. And there are a bunch of different modes you can play to get different experiences. There is one where your party will be faced with no obstacles whatsoever, and you can just float through the trail. I think it's called something along the lines of "the scenic route" or something similar, just a mega "easy mode".
You can also choose different characters with randomly generated skills for your party, that change up each play through. Just fun stuff.

@nonamesleft I think the original game was just the straight Oregon Trail game, no other modes or anything. The remake is vastly different in that regard, and it has updated (pixel art) graphics, so it's also visually new. You can play the original version too if I'm not mistaken, but that's only a tiny, tiny part of the full package.

Typical Nindie... lots of announcements, nothing too exciting. A sequel to West of Loathing was interesting, but I got stuck in the original when I accidentally equipped something that permanently enabled hard mode right before a fight that I now cannot win. Never could figure that out, and didn't want to start over.

Advanced Wars Reboot launches tomorrow. Based on the reviews it's about what you'd expect. Same old games, fresh coat of paint, not a ton of extra meat on the bone. With Zelda coming out in 3 weeks I'll pick this up later on a sale.
Also one of the giveaways at my.nintendo.com is a trip for 4 to Hollywood CA and free access to Universal/Super Mario World. 10 Platinum coins per entry.

Tbh I don't think I care half as much about Advance Wars without the original art style. I don't know why but I prefer the simpler, pixel art to the updated game's visuals. I'll definitely be waiting a while before I play that one.
My buddy just let me borrow Luigi's Mansion 3. First time playing it to distract myself from Zelda releasing in 25 days, or else I'll explode from anticipation.

I like the new art style. The chibi, anime, pastel fake CGI'ish look, just works for me. However I'm not paying $60 for it. I have enough of a backlog to buy it at a later date. I'll buy it within '23 I'm sure.

Massive Advance Wars fan, very much been looking forward to this release.
My wife is from Yokohama Japan and we are going back to visit her family in June. Decided we are going to take the bullet train to Osaka and go to Universal so the boys can see Super Mario World. It actually works out really well as they are also massive Jurassic Park and Minions fans and Jaws is my favorite ride and is now only found in Universal Japan. Should be a fun trip.

I was very interested in Kaze when I first heard about it, since it was described as a DKC clone. But, I remember at least a couple people here saying it didn't have the same charm and just didn't hold up nearly as well, so I keep putting off playing it.

Zelda SWOLED is ready for pick-up at Best Buy. Kinda forgot it was releasing today.
How much better is playing handheld on an OLED vs. v1 Switch? I'm debating whether or not to open it to use. I feel like a new Switch will be announced next year.

Most people seem to say it's a HUGE improvement. Personally, I thought it was a nice improvement, but not huge.

Anyone getting Dokapon Kingdom for Switch? It's from IFFY and they definitely have a track of lower print runs. Since this game is $100+ on Wii I think I'm gonna pay the full $50 for it. It WAS $200 on Wii but the switch release probably caused a ton of people to sell theirs for the new portable version and lowered the price due to flooded market.

It looked like they might have done a little River City action in there (power ups) which would be cool if so. Otherwise the genre is so stale to most people.

Where are your voucher prebuy transactions stored? I don't see them in order history.
I thought Tears of the Kingdom would show up, as my sister's does, who used a voucher. Even if I goto the TotK eshop page, it wants me to buy it, like I don't have already own it.
I have an email that says I redeemed a voucher though.
Anyone else have this issue?

Maybe email Nintendo with the voucher confirmation? Or wait a couple days to see if they are staggering pre-loads.

Talked to Nintendo via SMS support.
Weird. They show I only purchased 2 vouchers, but redeemed 4 games. I already got Luigi Mansions 3 + Kirby Dreamland. It shows I still have Pikmin 4 pre-ordered though, but Zelda was cancelled.
I'm 100% confident I bought 4 vouchers, but I have no proof of it it as I don't have the email, nor nintendo transaction history.
So, I guess I'm a 100% idiot.
Just bought 2 new vouchers. Let me buy TotK, went to buy Pikmin again, and it still shows pre-ordered. So who knows. I'm either getting f'd, or I may make out for the better.

It only took me around 20 minutes to realize that game isn't for me.
On a different note, I think I read something about Cadence of Hyrule being the first time a studio outside of Nintendo was given the keys to Hyrule to work with.
Is that not counting the crappy CD-i games, or Capcom's work with Minish Cap and Oracle Of Seasons/Ages?

20 minutes? That's pretty quick.
I was playing it 2P with a relative for a couple weeks, maybe even a few months, and I realized that I simply wasn't enjoying it and I didn't look forward to game time. Thankfully the other person was completely okay with moving on to another game.
The game wasn't bad. I just wasn't feeling it.

Gamestop has a trade in 2 for $50 towards Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, if ya got 2 game you want to dump worth $25 or less then worth it. 25% extra on this gen controller.

Try snagging a couple of used Last of Us Remastered for like $10 a piece on Offer Up or FB Marketplace. That's probably the cheapest way to go unless you have games you're already looking to unload.

Man, Flicky is a great game. I remember playing it a bit as a kid but now that it's on NSO via Genesis, I can't put it down. Save states between stages are necessary for me, but it can still get pretty challenging. Super fun. I'd love more games like this.

So, F these damn hackers/leaders. First of all, it's annoying as hell that every major Nintendo release is leaked early. There are videos of TotK everywhere spoiling the entire game (some losers have already finished it). What's worse is that Nintendo has had to spend money and resources trying to take this stuff down as much as possible.
I don't pretend to know how this stuff works, but Nintendo is now going after the key code that is used for dumping roms onto the internet (I'm sure I am misleading that statement). The problem seems to be physical cartridges are easy to hack. And Nintendo is trying to stop this from happening in the future.
Anyway, I see one of two possible scenarios moving forward:
1- Nintendo starts releasing digital versions a few weeks before physical copies, so once the physical copies get to retailers the digital version is already available.
Or even worse...
2 - Nintendo completely abandons physical media
What pisses me off is that more than 99% of the people do this the right way. These selfish, entitled brats are running everything for everybody else. Hackers ruining almost every online game that was ever worth playing, and now they're ruining every damn game out there.

The spoilers are definitely concerning, but they can be ignored at the expense of avoiding certain sites for a couple of weeks. Honestly my opinion is they should just let it go. My guess is most people hacking it are those who either are going to buy it anyways or those who wouldn't buy it anyways. I understand the business thought behind it, but the majority of what N releases is solid and the general population will buy a good product. The number of sales lost to those pirating that would've otherwise bought it is small imo. Must be extremely infuriating (disappointing in Japanese culture) though to have something you work on for 6-7 years get out there for free 2 weeks before launch.

Let’s be real here, with the convoluted Zelda storyline(s) are they really spoiling much outside of gameplay mechanics and ppl who show up? I mean it’s not like the mainstream Zelda characters aren’t gonna show up at some point in a Zelda game. I think ppl just need to stop being so butt hurt and idk, stop reading social media until they play the game themselves for once? 🤷♂️ Crazed idea I know.

For the record, I don't really care about spoilers or other people "leaking" information. I just ignore those videos. My bigger concern is how these people are pissing off Nintendo, and how that will unfortunately hurt the general gaming public in the long run. I have no doubt that these leaks and hacks will not affect sales at all. They are still going to sell millions of copies...probably 10s of millions. But...
Nintendo has already gone after and shut down THOUSANDS of live game streams on Twitch, Twitter, and even Tik Tok. They are pissed, and like I said, they are taking steps to ensure this does not happen again the future. I can very easily see them doing one of the two things I mentioned before to avoid this hacking BS.

Now that TOTK is out, any other major releases with known release dates?
Would seem like maybe a direct will be coming I'm the next 30 days or so to go over the 2nd half of the years releases

I guess they don’t plan to do a June Direct this year. There’s really not a ton on the docket.
Pikmin 4 is the next big one I think, July 31.

Pikmin 4 in July is confirmed. Wouldn't be shocked for Mario Baseball in June, but it's only rumors at this point.

At this rate, you’re probably right. I’d happily accept MP4 as a launch title for a Switch 2 though. Especially if they can make it run at a smooth 60fps.

Nintendo themselves confirmed there would be no major new hardware in this fiscal year (so until at least March 2024). Still, they could just be gearing up for it and leaving the Switch in the dust for a big launch.

I may have read the same article you did. Based on supply chain considerations, spring 2024 appears to be the earliest. I'm not playing TotK until it works on Yuzu or there is new hardware. In case anyone's panties get twisted by that, I'd buy the game either way, and it's none of Nintendo's business what hardware I play it on.

It would be the largest mistake Nintendo has ever made if it's not fully backward compatible. That common architecture would likely lead to at least a year of support, similar to what Microsoft did with the Series and One.

Agreed. If they don’t make their next console backwards compatible they’d just be shooting themselves in the foot. Switch was way more successful than the Wii U could have ever dreamed of so they need BC to not only keep their fan base happy, but to logically keep up a smooth transition from old to new console financially speaking.

Pikman doesn’t really sell super well does it? I mean it’s a 1st party game and will do fine, but I’m def expecting something else towards the end of the year. Hopefully we get a big Mario game just like we did the same year as BotW

Didn't Nintendo straight up lie once in the past about something like this? They said they had no plans for new hardware that year, and then ended releasing something? I feel like it was for the DS or 3DS.
Either way, Spring 2024 seems realistic. The Switch did launch in March, after all. That would give them some time to save up some big releases for it. I imagine at this point, we're not seeing a new 3D Mario until the Switch's successor, which sucks. It's been so long since Odyssey.

Agreed. I know Nintendo likes to try new things and subvert expectations, but I would literally be shocked if their next system isn't BC. Assuming it IS BC though, it's going to eventually have a MASSIVE library between all of the Switch 1 games, Switch 2 games, eShop games from both systems, and all of the retro games they've been throwing on the various apps.

I know in 2012 at E3 they were asked about a rumored 3DS XL. They either denied they were making it or gave the typical "we have nothing to announce" response. But not even 2 weeks later they officially announced it.

I remember there was an area with several bokoblins on horses who would shoot arrows at you. If you just stood in the same spot and looked down, most of the arrows wouldn't hit you and would just land on the ground. So you'd stand there for a little while, then run around and collect all the arrows that missed, and heal as needed. They may have patched it though. Your best bet it to check Youtube and look for more recent uploads.

There's a lot of stuff packed in here! The two brand new weapons look awesome! New PvP levels, new Salmon Run level, new catalog of course, and some new Challenge mode!
While I'm most excited for a new Salmon Run level, because that's my favorite game mode, that level looks SUPER cramped. I'm thinking it's going to be one of the more challenging levels, like Marooner's Bay.

The BOTW/TOTK style is pretty much what all the other 3D Zeldas were trending toward anyhow, there were just too many hardware limitations when they were released to make it happen. Even going so far back as OoT, they've all had a fairly "open world" vibe to them and, while still very linear games, always placed Link in large areas where you could more-or-less explore as you pleased until you completed your task. I'd say this is the natural evolution for what Nintendo always wanted for Zelda, and given the work put in, I can't blame them for sticking to this blueprint.
I will say that I'd like to see permanent weapons make a comeback. If other open world games can make it work, so can Zelda. Maybe mix some breakable weapons in there, but otherwise just have weapons that need to be upgraded over time to become more formidable as the story progresses/world opens up. I don't mind the breakable weapon shtick too much but in other games, I like to be able to try out a bunch and stick to my favorites. I don't necessarily need the small "survival" element in these games.
All that said, they better be talking solely 3D Zelda and not be suggesting there will never be another top-down 2D entry. I'm loving TOTK but playing it has already made me clamor for a traditional 2D Zelda too. Or even a more open world 2D Zelda could be cool, I just really hope they still release games with the classic vibe of the old school games. And keep them pixel art, not Link's Awakening remake style.

Oh, they have definitely been building towards this. Look at Link Between Worlds. The fact that you could get weapons in any order and tackle dungeons in any order was definitely a precursor to this. It's also important to note that this is the realization of the original idea of The Legend of Zelda on NES. Dropping you into a huge open world where you can go almost anywhere if you are good/brave enough and tackle challenges in whatever order you choose.

In the original Zelda, you could clear the 8 standard dungeons and get to Ganon without ever picking up a sword.
You then have to quit or die because you need a sword to defeat Ganon.
You can do it in both the normal game and in the second quest.

I don't even remember that part from the BOTW story, so it probably doesn't take too long. Although I do feel like BOTW and TOTK were created with the idea that players would want to explore and not just rush it, so that bit probably didn't seem so bad considering there's probably 600 things to discover in between each landscape.

There is no right way. You can go anywhere and do anything. Some areas are blocked by weather, but there are buffs you can make and armor you can earn/buy. Heck, you could go attack the end boss right now if you wanted to.

Generally speaking, Zora is viewed as the first "dungeon" in BOTW as the game basically tells you to go to kokriko village and Zoran domain is the closest divine beast from there. I also think so.eome in town mentions Zoran domain but I can't recall.
As another user pointed out, you don't have to. Turn around and go anywhere you'd like to go

Due to the ratio of the GBA screen (3:2) compared to NES and SNES (4:3, standard TV back then) they had to make a choice to either compress the screen (distort the ratio), add bars reducing play area, or zoom in only giving you part of the screen. They chose to zoom in. Drives me nuts not having a locked screen. Like Super Mario Bros on GBC. They also added (albeit brief) awful voice acting to the bosses.
They added some good things, but the changes above make it nearly unplayable as a big fan of the game.
The physics are different between the original and SNES All Star version. Personally, admittedly nostalgia biased, I'd play the NES version. Like all 2-d Mario's back then, warps can significantly reduce the time to beat it if you get stuck.

I love this strat. This is how I defeated silver lynels so quickly. I used to go around after every blood moon and fight all of the silver lynels to farm weapons and materials. I could usually defeat all of them in about 30 minutes, including travel time, mostly thanks to this trick. I had a really powerful Royal Guard's Claymore (around 118 I believe) that I kept in my inventory specifically for this. A few hits from that while mounted, then a few headshots after he flings you off (preferably with a x3 or x5 bow), did massive damage.

Yeah I put a lot of hours into it, like 235 in the end after DLC. I really liked cooking and spent a lot of time learning the best ways to cook all of the best dishes, and farming the materials so that I could always keep the best dishes in my inventory. I also fully upgraded all of the armor sets except for the ones that needed star fragments since those were so incredibly rare. Shouldn't be a problem in TotK though thanks to the duplication glitch.

Yeah, recipes are stored after you cook a dish. If a dish can be made with different ingredient combinations, it stacks on that recipe so you can see the different combinations.

I like the upgraded features of the OLED, such as the angle changeable kickstand and the larger screen. But there's one thing that I don't like about the OLED compared to the non OLED. The bezel of the tablet on the OLED is glossy. Much prefer matte. I wonder why they changed it. Not a big deal, but if there had been a choice, I'd definitely have gone with matte.
