Took the day off for the holiday, decided to spend it thrifting. Went to a city I have never been before. Went pretty well:

$100 for the bundle.

Everything here was about $40. The cases for Rome are shot, but it is for personal viewing so not a big deal.

Finally visited the pawnshop at their new location and found:

Xbox Series X 1TB Expansion $50

PS4 Controller $5

Turned down a gen 1 switch for $100, the joycons didn’t match the color on the box, the left joycon had been removed incorrectly too many times and now slides off with minimal effort, the game slot is broken (easily replaced for $30), and the fw is 16

Thanks, Frank. I actually haggled them down from $80, two tips pawn shop employees have told me is that it's easier to haggle at the beginning of the month versus the end of the month when they have to meet sales quota & to also look how long they've had the product when possible, that expansion card had been in the system since October 1st 2022

Good tip, I've done this a fair bit at classic video game stores even. At some point most stores would rather move on from something and actually get it gone than try to get every last dollar out of it. Especially if it's something that's been trending down recently.

On my way back from my grandfather’s funeral, we stopped at an outdoor flea market. Dad was willing to shell out $23 for this lot:
[imgt w=640 h=640]https://i.imgur.io/e...[/imgt]
River City Ransom goes for $45 and I got it for $2, so that’s something! I was low key looking for a cheap Power of Illusion, and I’ve been needing another 3DS cart holder. Add in a AAA PS4 game for $5 and a $26 Pokémon spin-off for $8, and you’ve got a good deal! The seller was even nice enough to let me switch out the dirty Mickey cart for a cleaner one he had in a bag of DS games.

My backlog grows and grows. Will it ever be conquered?

We finally had a dry weekend here in Baltimore, so I went out yard saling and had the best luck I've had since probably 2018. First up was a community sale in one of the nicest areas of the city that I like to hit up every year. There were less sellers this year than in the past, but this was made up for by the fact that some new folks were out. I spotted the BlazBlue games , Metropolis, and books at one of the first sales I hit. I grabbed those then asked about more games and the guy brought out some of his old GBA games. He wasn't sure if they still worked and, TBH, the contacts weren't in great shape, but I was definitely willing to risk it for such an awesome little cache. I ended up paying $60 for everything and, after a little elbow grease, I've gotten everything working again.

In the same community I picked up that cicada shirt for $1, and I mention it mainly because it turned out the seller worked on the SubNautica games, and it was cool getting to chat with him for a bit.

After that community sale I hit another one closer to my own neighborhood. The PS2 games were $5 for the stack so I grabbed those since they seem like my jam. After that I followed a map they had posted to a really out of the way sale, and I'm super glad I did. There was a young couple there clearing some stuff out, and when I asked about video games they brought out a stack of PS3 games and a DSi with some games. I grabbed the entire lot for $70, and they seemed to be grateful to be rid of the DSi since it reminded the woman of a bad breakup.

After that I hit up a flea market at a bar I frequent. No games, but I did get that Austin Powers lunchbox for $3 and the sasquatch doll for $1, and the'll make great prizes for the crappy movie night I host at the same bar.

Also, I made a great discovery. For years I've been trying to balance yard saling with childcare, since taking one of the kids out with me slows me down but leaving them both at home tires out my wife. This time, however, and I took both of them out and it worked pretty well! I just left them in the car with the windows rolled down while I hopped out at sales (I was never outside of eye contact/ear shot and the weather was cool) and they just entertained each other while I was out. I had a good time, they had a good time, and my wife got some much needed time off. So yeah, I'm excited to see if we can make this a regular thing.

I just bought the PS4 (free upgrade to PS5) Hell-A Edition (includes season pass, Tarot cards, pins, extra DLC, steelbook, map) of Dead Island 2 for $75. The guy even gave me the GameStop receipt and it had the protection plan on it too. His girlfriend gave it to him for his birthday, and he opened it up without realizing it didn’t have a digital version (when he only had the digital PS5), so he was just looking to sell it quickly. I lucked out and saw it right after it was posted, and he met me immediately. He even let me test the season pass and DLC codes there. The whole thing took less than half an hour from when I saw it on FB Marketplace. This just jumped up to the next thing I’m playing after I finish Star Wars: Survivor.

You hit the jackpot! As much as I’d like that Rhythm Heaven, I should save my money for now. Besides, I might find one myself with garage sale season starting up!

Thanks! And if it makes you feel any better, my brother already called dibs on Rhythm Heaven. He and I share finds, and after my dry spell last year I definitely owe him!

I got an original Sony PS2/3 Component cable for a buck. :D

I also got a laptop mini desk thing that I plan to use for my dumping tools and a VGA to HDMI adapter. $5 for all three things.

I was looking up game prices for possible trade-ins for the Tear of the Kingdom promo at Gamestop and was surprised to see this game going for $35+ on eBay used.

I drove to a nearby house to get a PS3 lot for a friend. While I was there, I casually asked the owner if he had any other gaming paraphernalia he was looking to get rid of. After a little hesitation, he offered me his NES for $25. I agreed to pay him $30.

(Excitebike is in the slot already.)

As you can see, there’s some great stuff in here! The whole lot’s in dirty condition—in fact, there’s disconcerting yellow-green gunk on an unseen item—but there are some valuable and fun items in here! My two favorites are at the bottom-center. Sadly, no Zelda II. Day ruined.

just went browsing in the US, and typed Charleston, West Virginia:

https://www.facebook...

just typed in the tunnels & trolls game, and seems that itself is already worth the deal if close by, as he mentions pick up only, in Lebanon, OH

https://www.facebook...

this one is 1k, but over 100 boxed games. I see Daggerfall which is $200 CAD prob after fees and sale, see fallout 1 and 2, both them are $500 CAD, in first picture see all those Ultima games, I know those can be money, see wizardry too, planescape torment, others, do your own research, and I'm pretty sure it'll be hard to haggle him down when he's downsized it from 5k, but that might be a ploy. Big buck pc games, sell much faster than the cheap ones, but prob cuz they're in demand every so often. Lots of money, I'd say if he's hard on offer, I dunno, I'd do the math if it was local lol, unsure, in Murphy NC

not sure, next time, I'll make a post where I'll share better than average deals, but maybe if it helps someone make some bucks, one might be too big of an investment and there might not be enough quality. sorry for filling this up with a potential hot deal and one not for me, but I'm slowly getting back into it, and hope to score some more better deals
