I’m about 7 hours in for GoW Ragnarok and I think it finally clicked with me that I just don’t like the gameplay much. The first one I had fun because the story and the world was new but now I’m just not that interested in much beside the story, and I feel like just watching the story on YouTube.

You probably won't like it much more than you do now. You might try turning it to the easiest difficulty and completely skip all side-quests. That will make the game move much faster. You also eventually get an added layer to combat, but it's probably not enough to significantly alter your opinion of the game.

You know honestly I gave it another go last night and lowered the difficulty to just below default and started enjoying it a lot more. I’m fully invested again for now.
I don’t know what it is about this game, I’m generally pretty good at games, but I can’t get good at this combat system

It's a big game and I had more fun when I lowered the difficulty. Just grinding away during battles got old after 15+ hours and when easier I enjoyed the faster progression.

I enjoyed Ragnarok, beat it on Hard, with Plat ... but I'd kinda agree with @Shane12m.
Couldn't/can't quite put my finger on it, but it just didn't feel as fun/engaging as the first for some reason. Overall it was a absolutely a great game, but I found myself feeling that I was just grinding to get through it. I enjoyed the combat, didn't find it overly difficult until the very end of the game (two bosses stood out as very challenging). The amount of back tracking was a bit much, and in retro I should have waited to do it at the end vs. constantly doing it throughout. Still, I think it's absolutely worth the time.
Yet, I felt the same way about HFW as well. The first of each of these series was much better to me personally. Still, glad I played them, great experiences.

Enemies have a bit too much health. You can use an option to start boss fights at a “checkpoint” but it’s limited to certain difficulty.

There's always an enemy behind you, too. Doesn't matter how you try to position your back to a wall, they will always spawn behind you. The tight third camera and a main character that moves like a tank sucks for this type of game.

Yeah camera is terrible. Need to kite often and it really makes it difficult.

I only found the camera to be a pain against a few of the Berserker's because of their speed.

Its odd. I loved the first one. But I have zero interest in playing Ragnarok.
Same with Horizon. Loved the first, no interest in Forbidden West.

I played Ragnarok on Normal difficulty. I remember I played the first one on the hardest and it took away from the experience. I found Normal Difficulty to be perfectly balanced for a fun yet challenging playthrough. Plat is not tied to the difficulty either

@Archer You aren't missing much. Both sequels are a step down. Both are fine examples of more not necessarily being better.

disagree on Horizeon FW. They expanded the story, kept the awesome gameplay and made a really good game. I liked it as much as the first one. Can't wait for the third installment.

@bill I'll probably play Ragnarok once it hits PS+ next year. Or at least check it out. I already checked out HFW, with the PS+ trial. I think I only got 15 minutes into it before shutting it off and deleting it. I didn't like anything about it.

I got about 3-4 hours in and gave up on it. Not sure why, but moving around felt so clumsy (getting stuck on the environment, poor flow in general). Had to turn on all the accessibility stuff just to see what I could even grab. Elden Ring felt way better, which was surprising to me since From games tend to feel kind of stiff.

HFW love the stash box and quick refill and overflow going to it etc I like not being punished for harvesting or collecting. I upgraded all I got BUT have not picked up the outfits or weapons to purchase. Alloy does mention being Hot and Cold etc, I will get the purple level stuff when they are available. Didn’t upgrade the few given outfits just the original one, Nora Proud!
Speaking of collecting I kept picking up Bristleback Spheres, well I am pretty sure I was picking up warm spheres of crap. Around the Poseidon mission, I saw a couple of spheres by the water hole then while getting them, my tame fire Bristleback was in the screen and while walking forward I saw more sphere. Have I been cleaning up his poop?

I have a slight resentment toward GOW2Rag because the only way I finally got a PS5 was to get it with a bundled GOW2Rag (just a code) at full price (~$70).

It is basically more of the same in terms of gameplay. Just more story and little improvements here and there really. But, for me the first ones where amazing, and so are these.
Play it now if you already bought it.

Ya that is pretty gay, but not even as bad as those places like gamestop that ONLY sold these stupid ass bundles with like extra controllers and stuff.

I have gay friends and we always say that. They say much worse to me just talking crap no bad intentions. I think my friends and I just know the intention is good so it's just a phrase.
I'm sorry if that is offensive I'll be more careful in these forums if that's the case.

I heard it a couple weeks ago, some kid maybe 10 or 11 years old at gamestop was calling Xbox gay because he was buying a PlayStation game.
Which is about the age group I associate with it being used as an insult (no offense intended to longhorn, just from my experiences in the early days of Xbox live)

Golden oldies. I only whip it out when someone's making a big fudging stink about someone casually using it in a context that's clearly not meant to evoke homoeroticism
For instance, I would never call BENSTYLUS gay.

So, I know I'm a little late to the party (talking about 2 year old games), but I am very disappointed in Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. Don't get me wrong, I'm still playing through it and enjoying it, but I expect much better from this series, especially given the glowing reviews it received. I know a lot of games ship unfinished nowadays, but you would think they would update this stuff by now. I have encountered so many glitches in this game. It might be the worth glitching game I have ever played. I get stuck on walls, sometimes just teleporting to different locations. Sometimes Ratchet will be falling and start skipping up and down on whatever surface I am touching. I have had to quit and restart multiple times due to objectives not updating. Sometimes button prompts don't show up. In some cases, items just don't appear where they should. This doesn't even say anything about the obnoxious repeating dialogue.
Overall, I expected MUCH better.

I played through Rifted Apart a month ago and looking at it outside of the launch window shine, I had plenty of complaints. I didn't really have any bugs though, but found it super annoying how the game encourages exploration yet a lot of staircase looking things waist-high can't be jumped on. Jumping up to only slide down off it was constantly happening.

Wasn’t for me either. The gimmick / rift was graphically impressive but overall it felt very mid and early 2000s. I may finish it since it’s pretty short. This one was mostly fanboy hype I’m afraid.

Did the rift stuff ever turn into anything more than just instantaneous movement to different cover points? It seemed like it had a lot of potential.

To me Ratchet & Clank are just fun colorful platformers where you break stuff and get bolts, and get to upgrade and use a whole bunch of weapons. But I admit it's mostly because I love the colorful graphics. Rift Apart made a fun beatufiul tech demo for "next gen" when PS5 was less than a year old.

I remember enjoying the Ratchet & Clank games, but I guess it was mostly on ps2. So, a long time ago. I haven't played Rift Apart. Looking at trophies, I played the ps4 Ratchet & Clank almost 6 years ago (but no other R&C is in my trophy list... strange, maybe I missed some). I want to play Rift Apart, but I'm hoping to get it cheap (or "free" via Extra). It's currently $70 in the ps store (lowest sale price was $30 last month).
From memory, the R&C games were light, highly-animated (mostly bolts flying all over the place) and colorful games. The weapons you acquire along the way had an enjoyable variety to them and the upgrades were satisfying too. That kept me motivated. I recall there were challenges and puzzles at times. Also, exploration aspects where I had to find secret passages to hidden items. The parts where you play Clank to sneak into small areas (not sure all games had this... one game was mostly Clank) helped vary what you were doing too. The story stuff was cartoonish and amusing. I liked that it wasn't strictly linear too, you could travel around to different areas to make progress.
But yeah, it has been a while. And, I'm sure not everyone would be into this sort of game. I think they are mostly highly-rated and sold well, though. I don't recall any being buggy, so it's disturbing to hear that Rift Apart is.

I should start saving screen shots. I was playing one of the puzzle sections last night and I missed a jump. Clank landed on the side of the platform and got stuck on a metal rim, I tried to walk to my death, but he just started walking on air. Another time I was trying to get to a hard to reach area, was sliding on an invisible barrier in the sky and fell into a hole that was surrounded by invisible walls. After a few seconds of trying to get out, Ratchet started glitch jumping up into the sky. Those are some of the bad examples, but I have encountered at least one glitch every 5-10 minutes.
I have played every R&C game before, and while they aren't the pinnacle of 3D platforming, they have always been well made with fun and varied weapons. The weapons in this are way too similar and tired. Many of the old weapons have returned (RYNO, Buzz Blades, Glove of Doom, etc), and the new weapons are just variations of old weapons. Some of the older weapons were so much fun, like turning enemies into chickens.
The graphics are beautiful, and I guess I'm still enjoying enough to play to the end, but I'm just seriously disappointed after such glowing reviews. And I would have thought they would patch some of this stuff by now.

Quite possibly my favorite game of all time, Nier Automata, is on sale right now for $18 in case someone hasn't played it yet.
It's about 50 hours with minimal side crap and is just an amazing experience from gameplay to story to everything else.

Yeah Nier Automata is great (although I wouldn’t say there’s minimal side stuff, IIRC there was plenty and I missed a lot of it)
I second the recommendation

What j meant was the first time i beat it i did minimal side stuff and it took about 50 hours.
A complete play would be a ton more hours over twice as much probably

Yeah I have no interest in those expensive controllers. I like buying special edition controllers, but those are $60 recolors. I think there was a Halo Elite one that was expensive, but at least that had a special look to it. If you enjoy it go for it though.

Has anyone here changed their PSN ID recently? Back when Sony first allowed users to change their ID I recall there would be all kinds of issues it caused, including losing game progress. So that was enough to make me not want to bother with it. I'm just curious if those issues still exist.
edit: Just editing this in case anyone else needs to know in the future, but apparently PS3 and PS Vita games still have that issue where you might lose progress, but PS4 and PS5 games should be fine.

For those of you that beat Horizon:FW what level were you by/near the end? I think I'm about 20 and I feel like this is turning into an Assassins Creed that just seems to go on forever. I'm trying to decide if I power through or just set it aside for a few months and come back later.

Main story is pretty short. After 2 full plays I was level 65. Cap is 50 but “ghost levels” continue with no stats. I hit cap before finishing first playthrough but I’m a completionist. Nothing is super difficult unless you’re on hard etc- then you need to cap.

Played through the Resident Evil 4 remake demo. Damn, I didn't know it was going to have the option for gyro aiming. Something about it feels just a little bit off, but I'll get used to it. GG Capcom, we need more devs to get on board with this so it's treated like less of a "Nintendo thing".
Is this game using the adaptive difficulty of the original RE4? I always wondered why more games didn't do that.

Yeah its been a while since they have gambled on new IPs. Or even revived IPs like Bionic Commando. They did well with RE and SF these past years so hopefully they do something new or revived soon.
I would love a new Onimusha or Lost Planet.

I use it on rare occasions (mostly to start Twitch stream which I only do for one person who occasionally wants to watch some gameplay, or to save the last X minutes of something if i wanna capture it, like a crazy Fifa match or something)
but that started relatively recently. In reality if you’re not a streamer type, it’s not that useful

They should have made the touchpad a share button, and bring back the select button.
The touchpad is 100% worthless. Even in games that use it, gameplay would always be better and more intuitive by using an analog stick or a button. You know, where your hands and fingers already are.

I use the share button all the time. I save tons of screenshots and video clips that I then share on Discord or YouTube, plus the video clips can be saved in 4K which my capture card can't even do.
As for the TouchPad, I'm indifferent about it. Very few games make any meaningful use out of it. It's almost as pointless as the microphones on DS/3DS/Wii U GamePad, whose whole existence is built around Nintendo's obsession with making you look like an idiot blowing into them.

This reminds me of people talking about all the cool things that NFTs can be used for, pretty much all of which can just as easily be done (and in most cases have already been done for decades) without NFTs.
The touchpad is a feature that is far more expensive to include than a button, and is often implemented poorly in games that use it. The times people like it are when it functions the same as a button.
If we still had select, that tap-for-map feature could be an actual button.

Touchpad sucks when it’s used as a swipe, r/l divided functions, hold for effect etc. I would not notice it’s absence. The game I mentioned MHR defaults to a hold to toggle the map - I purposely changed in the options to make it function like a simple button. The way they wanted it to work was a big nope for me.

I like it when games use it for two different functions or more. Pressing the left side does one thing, pressing the right side does another. There was one game that had like 4 functions attached to it. I think it might have been Days Gone, can't remember. Swipe up/down and press left or right. Its too bad more developers don't use it like that. I actually used it in that game. Most game I ignore it because its not implement properly.

I hope that's true simply because it will mean the price can finally start to drop on the regular PS5. There are several games that have released for both PS4 and PS5, and while I could play them on PS4, I'd much rather play them on PS5. I don't play enough PS games to justify dropping $500 on the system though, so I need some serious price drops to start kicking it. I didn't get around to buying a PS4 until 2020. I'm hoping to not have to wait as long this time around.

I literally just saw a PS5 on a shelf for the first time this past weekend, and it was at a small NEX (Navy Exchange). I think we are at a point now where the lifecycle on these things needs to be 10 years. I know that is not what console developers want to hear, but the changes being made are so small at this point that updating the system seems more practical than putting out a completely new system. Same could also be said for cell phones.
With the success of the Switch and the Steam Deck I also don't see how hybrid consoles aren't the future. Anything non hybrid is step back in my opinion, especially when you are looking for something to compete against the PC market. Figure out how to make a hybrid VR console and then you are ready to release something new. Hell even framerate and picture quality aren't that big anymore as most TVs aren't even able to keep up with what consoles can (theoretically) produce.

I think I'm in the last quarter of the game in The Callisto Protocol. I have never played the Dead Space games before, but this game has been decent. I'm not normally big on survival horror, but the game has been pretty fun. I know the whole point of the game is being isolated from others, but I started rolling my eyes every time I got separated from an NPC.

I'm not normally big on survival horror, but the game has been pretty fun. I know the whole point of the game is being isolated from others, but I started rolling my eyes every time I got separated from an NPC.

Same could also be said for cell phones.
Technology changes fast. It may be less noticeable graphically (I'm sure ray-tracing is just a buzz word to most people), but locked 60fps is key. I always choose performance mode over fidelity if given the option.
I still prefer to play my AAA titles on my 65" LG OLED via PS5, especially if I'm playing 2+ hours in one sitting. I prefer Switch or SteamDeck if I'm playing less than an hour.

Definitely the second one if that's an honest question.
It's an amazing game by its own right, but having that in there gives it a bit more realism than just buttons would, so it's that much more immersive. I guess you can try to play it and see..
Nothing about that game is "kinda clever/cute" - it's pretty hard core from beginning to end, and it feels like ND really fleshed out every part of the game, including those small aspects of guitar strumming which definitely add to the gameplay experience.

Tech does change fast, but I think the publics ability to consume it has started to slow. Rising cost are going to be a huge issue going forward. Not to mention that almost all of the tech in a PS5 (or most current gen consoles) is wasted if you don't have a great tv.

I will probably get a PS5 Pro when it comes out, just because. But when I do I may end up keeping my PS5 and just moving it upstairs. We will see. Depends on if I have a PC at that time, which I have been saying for YEARS now

Im ok with 1440p 60fps so I doubt there will be enough reasons for me to get a PS5 Pro.
Surely it will just be able to do 4k60 on some games.

I am guessing the plan would be 4K native 60 with more RTX and possibly even better PSVR2 performance. An updated RDNA-3 or even RDNA-4 GPU would pair nicely in this endeavor if they do go Pro at some point. I doubt we'd see it for a few more years though since the PS5 is still selling so strongly and is still pretty good with framerates for the most part

Ps5 pro is dumb. Developers would have to make games targeted at 4k 120 FPS, etc and what not and no ones gonna develop extra just for that. Cross platform devs certainly won't bother with higher res/framerate with the XsS

I’m in agreement with a PS5 Pro is unneeded right now and I would only get one with a juicy trade in deal. They should just make this console generation shorter then if they feel a need to keep up with advancements in hardware and come out with a PS6/Xbox Series Zenith in 2026-2027 then if that’s the case. Although from what I’m hearing more than a usual amount of PC games also available on console are running very poorly compared to their console counterparts so there may be a tide shift to focus dev kits on consoles as a primary VS PC development in the not too distant future which would only make sense for console devs to pump out another console sooner than later. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Sony can always bring back Socom, or pay for exclusivity with EA's Battlefield series. Or have EA bring back Medal of honor. Or lure Tom Clancy's estate away from Ubisoft.
If COD is all people play, they aren't making much money for Sony anyway.

What is funny about this whole thing. Is Microsoft for years has been saying all games should be on everything. And everyone should be able to play how they want. But then their actions say otherwise. Every studio they've bought has been turned exclusive. Sure doesn't seem like you want people playing on other platforms.

Microsoft brought Minecraft to all systems and made all systems cross platform playable (other than Sony because of course they didn't want it). I don't feel strongly either way, if Microsoft sorts Blizzard's crap that's a net positive for everyone, and I don't like Sony acting like they give a crap about games being available for everyone. It was refreshing to see the head fella finally say it straight, he just doesn't want MS to acquire Actiblizz. Was that so hard?

I couldn't give a crap either way about CoD going exclusive either, don't play those games.
Also no they didn't. Minecraft was already on everything by the time it was bought. They bought it five months after it was released on all platforms. They bought it in September of 2014. The last system for it to release on was PS3 (at this point it was now on everything), which was in May of 2014. They didn't do anything to help spread it around. And every purchase after that was made exclusive instantly. Just like Sony has done. The only difference is Sony is not out there saying "we want you to have options, we want you to play this were you want". And then not letting that actually happen. Which is what I find the funny part. That people eat that crap up and believe it. When its not actually the case. What they really mean is, on your xbox or Microsoft PC.
Spencer was saying before they bought Zenimax that they wouldn't make those games exclusive. Then as soon as it was finalized they announced they would be exclusive. Not that it matters to me, I own both systems. More than happy to play the next ES or Fallout on Xbox. But its funny people give them a pass on this and just dog on Sony. When they are both crapty companies. Doing crapty things. And they both only give a crap about their own eco-systems. Yet one gets a pass for being more friendly and doing more to advance blah blah blah. When in actuality neither is doing anything great.
And of course he doesn't want to see that. They end up losing out. Just like Microsoft wouldn't want to see Sony with them. Because then they lose out. If you ran a business that made money off another business. And then your competitor comes along and puts and end to that. You'd be upset too. Microsoft would be doing the same thing if the roles were reversed. People act like these giant ass corporations are on their side. They don't give a crap about you. They just want your money. Which is why all the fanboy crap has always confused me. People act like the system they like more is some how superior ethically or some crap. Its almost like a cult mentality.
And the funniest part is people praising Spencer for making 10 year deals with Nintendo to bring CoD to Switch. Who the fudge is playing CoD on switch? And now they've made a 10 year deal with some mobile/cloud company in Japan so people can play CoD on their phones. In Japan. Come on. That isn't a jab? To a market that doesn't really play CoD. And the home of Sony. While its extremely funny, I'll admit. Its a bit odd people are using this to say "see it wont be exclusive".
So now that I've gotten my semi-annual fudge this industry rant out of the way. I think I'll go take a walk.

I don't care where Call of Duty goes, but I'm still bitter about Bethesda and would hate to see Blizzard stop making cross-platform games. Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI were going to be on all platforms before Microsoft bought out Bethesda, and I would much rather play them on my PS5 with haptic feedback and trophies. Also, the buyout probably means we won't see Fallout 4 or Elder Scrolls VI on PSVR2, which is really disappointing. If the Diablo games go exclusive to Microsoft as well, I'm going to be super annoyed, as that's one of my all-time favorite franchises.

I was kind of bummed about Starfield because I love space games. But I'm also kind of tired of Bethesda games and was already worried it would be too like their other games. I have loved many past Bethesda games, but they're all so similar now. Diablo too... I'll still play them but they feel like the same old thing.
Microsoft definitely sucks, though. Nothing new there. They have a long history of business tactics that are bad for consumers. Also, Bill Gates was Epstein's buddy and his wife dumped him because of it. I hate how the media treats Gates like some kind of genius. His genius was copying other's tech combined with brutal anti-competitive business practices.
Sony, on the other hand, is perfect and never does anything bad, ever, ever, ever.

Will people even be playing COD in ten years? I'd say that's a pretty generous offer. There's a good shot that Microsoft's Xbox won't even be a platform by then. To me that's just about as good as an indefinite agreement to not keep crap exclusive as you can get these days. It's more than Sony's ever given for their crap.
But you're right, it doesn't matter. The Mario Kart tablet's better than either console if you've got a PC and don't mind playing the older, cuter version of DeS and both Microsoft and Sony are looking to squeeze every drop of blood from the stones that they can. Frankly I was just looking forward to Bobby Kotick getting removed from his position, but something tells me that's not a guarantee either way. If it's approved, I hope things change, but if it's not, nothing will change. The latter has no positives to me. So I do still hope it goes through, but if it doesn't I guess we have more great crap to look forward to, like Warcraft 3 Reforged and Overwatch 2. Stealing breast milk from fridges (Blizzard just made their WFH employees start coming back to the office, fridges must finally be empty), that sorta good crap.

And the home of Sony. While its extremely funny, I'll admit. Its a bit odd people are using this to say "see it wont be exclusive".

Finally put some time into Miles Morales and it's pretty good. I'm having a real tough time not seeing this as just killer DLC though. The same map, general mechanics, a few types of collectibles to power up skills, etc.. Everything is well done and it's fun but having played the snot out of Spiderman on PS4, this has been a little underwhelming.

I just watched the Digital Foundry review and there is a dead zone issue with the controls, more so on the Xbox version, causing a timing delay. That is unfortunate and can be why the controls felt so weird during the demo. Looks like Capcom will need to patch to fix this issue.

I adore RE4. It's my all time favorite RE game and even I wouldn't give it a 10/10, especially with all those technical issues that DF found out. I'd say 9/10 max for me.

I played it at launch for GC- liked it but never considered it one of the greatest games. Haven’t played through it since but nothing about it screamed 10. Interested to see how they improved it. Trophy set looks awful too so I’ll likely just blast through it.

Haven't been playing much remote PS5 play from my PC lately ... just fired it up for some RE4. Made me update PS Play, and now my Dual Sense won't connect (using DSX). Anyone else have issues here? I've reconnected via Bluetooth, updated firmware, reinstalled PS App ... no dice. Controller works in DSX without issue, appears to be a PS App thing.
Chiaki appears to work just fine though, excep that using the touch pad is required for this game (inventory) ... and that doesn't work via Chiaki. Crap.

I cannot get the TouchPad to work in Chiaki for RE4. Every other game works but it. All it does is open the map though, which can be accessed via Triangle and L1, L1 over. Annoying but it works.
It worked once but that was it.

OK. So I may have figured it out. I was playing on the actual PS5 then immediately swapped to Chiaki4deck and it worked. Not sure if there is any correlation right now though.

I know it's technically a PS4 game, but since that forum is closed and I'm playing it on my PS5...
I'm finally playing through God of War 2016. I started it years ago and only got about an hour in. I don't know why I stopped, but I was waiting to get a PS5 to play again. Anyway, I'm playing it now, and it's...ok.
My biggest complaint is Atreus. I am a teacher, so I hear disrespectful kids all day every day. My own kids question and challenge everything (especially the teenagers). Here I am (Kratos), a literal God, and this kid is talking back, giving attitude, and thinks he knows everything. If Kratos can't get respect, what chance do I have?

Kratos is a killing machine but then needs to be a nurturing parent. Not likely to go well, and Atreus fully represents that. Kratos being able to crush skulls but not deal with parenting is on brand.
See the Blackburn (movie) for how this could end up.

Same to be honest... I was not expecting this month for some reason, I thought it came out in June. But I got the last copy, though it was open but it was still in mint so I just sucked it up and bought it. I may want to get another for collection purposes but I may get that one for Switch. I need to finish the Cowabunga collection first. I have about 4 games half way through, but I just finished Tornement fighters (Gen) and that one was way harder than the Snes version IMO, I also have to say Fall of the Foot Clan on GB has some pretty sick music.

Yeah, I forgive them for going the first-person route just for the VR support alone. I won't play them any other way. If I end up getting the PSVR2 this summer instead of waiting for a price drop, RE8 is probably one of the biggest reasons I'll be doing so because I'm getting tired of my copy just sitting there unopened and I wanna finally play the damn thing.

I'm a little past that. It's a fantastic game. My only real complaint is that there are certain times when you can no longer backtrack, but it's not obvious that that is going to be the case. That's caught me off guard a few times where I made a wrong turn, started a cutscene, and then missed out on fetching some stuff on the map I was trying to get to.
The voice work is also terrible. I thought Alloy in Horizon had no personality, but she's the life of the party compared to Leon.

I didnt have an issue with the aiming. I felt it was solid enough but not super easy to get every headshot (which would make things very easy IMO). I believe RE2 and 3 remakes had the same type of drowsy aiming and it would make me make sure every bullet counted.

I’ve been waiting more and more now for price drops. I used to buy like every game I wanted to play at launch. Now I just bide my time. Most of these games are dropping relatively quickly in price a couple months after launch. Or just end up on Game Pass or PS+ at some point. And by that time they’re on like patch 1.05+ and most crappy issues are ironed out.

Don’t know about timing but Slim ps5 for sure at some point. 100% sure it’ll happen as the current system is basically a parts bin. Tons of opportunity for efficiency.
Pro seems to have solid rumors but I don’t see that any time soon. Games releasing at 30fps and/or buggy lately won’t be helped by hardware necessarily.

I just started playing Returnal last night. I'm enjoying it so far. Reached the boss of Biome 1 on my first run (post-tutorial run) (2 hours or so) and got to the last phase of the boss before dying. I don't think this has the addictive nature of other rogue-likes, but I'm intrigued.
Need to beat it before FFXVI comes out so I can free up a 100 GBs

Returnal is way less addictive, it's not like others where you replay constantly and unlock new things like Enter the Gungeon. Once you beat it once toy could quit. There is one secret/second ending after that which is really easy to do though.

If I remember correctly, only Ether, some special skills (the hook shot, etc), and weapon traits unlocked carry over after dying. I think the least clear is the weapon stuff, I dont remember if it was called proficiency or what but the more you use a specific gun, the better traits you unlock for it. Theyre still randomized, but you get better versions of weapons overall. (Like the handgun having burst fire mode)

Returnal confuses me quite a bit with how it all works/what carries over or not. I feel like I've read several articles and still don't get it. I need to give it another ago though, the 3d audio is fantastic and I enjoyed a couple hours of it. But it's been awhile.

There are certain things that do carry over when you die in Returnal. Here's a list of what persists between runs in this game:
-Permanent equipment is kept once you've unlocked it. Examples include the Atropian Blade, the Hermetic Transmitter, and the Icarian Grapnel
-Permanent items are kept once you've acquired them. Examples include the House Key and the Crimson Key
-Ether carries over between runs
-Artefacts and items you've scanned or unlocked will show up randomly in subsequent runs
-Research progress on enemies, weapon traits, items, and artefacts is persistent
-Story/objective progress is persistent
After defeating a boss once, you don't have to fight it again (although you can if you like)
Basically only permanent upgrade / suit unlocks, boss kills and ether are kept. Once you get to a certain point the “launch point / restart level” changes so you do not have to complete the whole game in a single run.

I was able to beat the first boss and make it to Biome 2, where I died early on from a swarm of enemies from 2 different areas I brought together (thought I could outrun the first group…big mistake).

Still never got my DualSense working with PS Remote App via PC since that last update.
Instead, just plugging in. Performance has ... gotten WAY better from when I was playing DS3. Whatever that update was, seems great. I'm getting almost no latency, no artifacts, it all looks/feels great!

Official remote play app? There is a work around, last I tried.
Create a new profile on your Ps5.
Link that profile to the remote play app on PC.
Start the app on PC manually with your mouse.
Turn on your wireless PS5 controller, don't plug it in.
Select your actual main PS profile now.
Go to settings, language, change language from one and swap it back to US English to get rid of the remote play message at the top middle of the screen.
You should now be able to use it wireless with all the dualsense features and the touchpad as well.
Last time I did this it worked.

I got hooked into Ghostwire Tokyo and found chasing down collectibles oddly entertaining. But now it just feels relentless and egregious. The story is bad, the combat is really simple given all the skills and options, and it's an odd game overall. But I really enjoyed hunting down spirits and flying around rooftops. But I'm around level 30 now and have had my fill.

I felt the same way with Days Gone and God of War (to a certain extent). I played Days Gone for a good 20/30 hours but just kind of lost interest. I am really far into GoW. I think I am on the last or close to last level. I should probably just suck it up and finish it.

Yeah. I liked Ghostwire enough to finish the campaign, but I didn’t even try for the platinum because of all the collectibles (and how hard it was to find many of them).

Ghostwrite gives you a few items after finishing the story that help with locating the collectibles. Wasn’t too much extra work. You just needed to save it for post game to make it faster- silly design choice imo.

The showcase was decent. Some of the PSVR2 games looked cool, and I’m excited for Spider-Man 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and FFXVI. I’m really curious how that new Bungie game will turn out. I loved Destiny 2. I had to laugh when, in the live chat during the showcase, a ton of people didn’t know who Kraven was and were saying “What?! No Spider-Man 2?!” and thinking the trailer was for a Dino Crisis remake or Turok 3 lol.

And I read it as:
Why is this digital only?
The existence of digital only consoles is empowering us to cheap out. While a digital version would have released anyway, doing this helps pad our bottom line. We'll claim to pass on savings by selling it at the lower end of a brand new game, while simultaneously killing off used sales- every copy sold goes through our monopolistic greed!
Also, we agree- buying a physical game that needs a day-one patch is a negative experience. So now we can bake the patch into the mandatory download- what's another 4 GB when you're already downloading 40? Sure, we could avoid that physical download requirement by properly QCing our game, but we already canned that team to save money.

I don't know that i agree. Remedy puts out some amazing games and content and every one one of them I think is quality from the beginning. Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control, were all great products.
They are also selling at $10 below what normal PS5/XSX games are retailing for. Don't get me wrong I'd still prefer disc but this whole like "they're just greedy" and "they're just lazy" narrative feels a bit reductive.
The whole "needs a download" reason definitely sounds like PR speak because you're making us download something anyways, but this isn't a publisher like Take-Two or Activision (MS) that can absorb any type of loss and i can understand them trying to maximize profit by eliminating costs for discs.
Having said that this probably does mean i won't be a day one purchase and I'll wait until it's on sale or GP to PS+ etc.

Did any of you try that prologue demo of Alone in the Dark? I felt like it wasn't even worth the few minutes it took to download. First off, it was barely 10 minutes long (a bit over 4 minutes on my second attempt once I knew exactly where to go). Other than 2 minor jump scares it didn't really show how scary this game plans to be (you play as a little girl, so there was no combat against these monsters). Also the graphics did not quite look like I was playing a PS5 game, even when set to quality mode. Overall it just failed to make me want to pre-order this, which is the whole point of a demo. The Callisto Protocol, Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, this has been a good year for horror games, and based on this demo I'm not sure by the end of the year AitD will even be in the discussion alongside those 3.

DualSense drift is really starting to affect my enjoyment of Ratchet & Clank when I'm trying to hide behind cover from enemy fire and also have to stop Ratchet from walking off the edge of a platform. I'd just buy a new controller but the last time this happened it seemed to just stop after a couple of days. Since this is a PS4 game I can just use my DualShock4 at least, which hasn't given me this problem in the 8 years I've owned it.
I remember when this problem used to happen with cheap 3rd party controllers, but controllers cost as much as (or more than) games themselves now, this shouldn't be happening.

Just got another year of PS+ Premium with the sale they're doing. It came out to $97.75 instead of the usual $119.99 + tax. The thing that sucks though, it doesn't let me pay for PS+ with my debit card, instead I have to buy a prepaid PSN card from Best Buy and redeem the code to add the funds to my wallet and pay that way. My debit card isn't a problem, I literally used it yesterday around 9:30 to buy a game on sale in the PS Store.
The only plus side this time, I had a $5 off coupon for Best Buy, so I got the $100 prepaid card for $95 and technically saved myself a couple bucks. But I'd rather not have to jump through those extra hoops.
And for my previous post, I was able to finish Ratchet & Clank with my DualSense. Once again the stick drift magically went away on its own after a couple of days.

If you had a Costco membership, you couldve gotten that $100 psn for $80 which would be a bigger save. Ill have to check when mine expires

Who here has played Death Stranding? I finally started it, am currently about 90 minutes into it. Before I continue with it, I'd like to know what is the gameplay to cutscene ratio? I feel like in those 90 minutes I have been watching cutscenes way more than actually playing. If this keeps up for the rest of the game, am I missing anything important by just skipping the cutscenes (if they can be skipped)? It's a Kojima game, so even if I watch them I still likely won't understand what is happening anyway (I believe that to be true for most of the people who praise Kojima's work too).

It's a Hideo Kojima game. I haven't played it but based off past games I would say it leans more towards cut scenes than gameplay.
I've been wanting to play a bunch of PSP and Vita games again but don't feel like finding a system. Was happy to see Killzone Liberation on the June PS Plus Extra. Underrated game I'm looking forward to playing again.

It’s mostly gameplay. The cutscenes are just front and back loaded. It’s so much better than other Kojima games in that regard. After chapter 2 you’ll go long stretches without any cutscenes.

Lol yeah by gameplay I obviously meant walking and making deliveries. It’s a weird game. Takes far too long to get going, but it’s very unique and unique isn’t always a bad thing. It was an interesting experience. I wouldn’t play it again, but I’m still glad I gave it a shot because it does quite a few things well and the soundtrack is sooo good!

Death Stranding takes way too long to get into agreed, but once you get like 10 hours in it finally clicks and you get a rhythm going. It’s an ok game. Not sure if I’ll play the sequel though as much as I love Kojima. Don’t think I have another 40-50 hours of walking around carrying boxes dealing with black goo babies in me heh.

What was Sony's involvement in this game anyway? Did they just pay Kojima for console exclusivity? I feel like it wouldn't have mattered much if it did release on Xbox. This ain't a system seller.

They paid Kojima for console exclusivity I believe. The rest was basically him running buck wild. Like the old Penny-Arcade strip said. Soon he’ll be jacking off sharks for 50 hours and we’ll happily pay to experience it.

I haven't played Killzone Liberation or InFamous before, but I plan to check out both via PS+ Premium. So many games, so little time.

Yeah for sure. Remedy should probably move Alan Wake II. It's going to get buried otherwise and I'd hate to see it bomb.
And Baldur's Gate III comes out August 31st so those October games might as well not even exist to me because that's all I'll be playing in October.

Had my PS5 since the forced GS bundles. Well I DL Apple TV and it offered 6 months free with the PS5. I was already on a 3 month. Fast forward I signed on recent and it still allowed the 6 months free. If you dont have a sub but want to try out apple tv for 6 months DL it on your PS5. Sub wont be limited to being used on the PS5 etc. I am enjoying Silo.

Yeah. I kinda wasn't going to get BG3 for a while bc of starfield. But if there is not even a physical version it's totally on the back burner. It's not like I don't have a crap ton of great games on my backlog. It's not like I'm totally against digital. I'm going to buy Mortal Kombat 1 day one on digital just because they always release a Komplete version later anyway. But I don't like it when companies say no physical period. In principle I don't support them.

I feel like digital games on consoles often have good sales/discounts and perhaps are as good or better than Steam. Is there some way to compare them?
I use https://www.dekudeal... to track prices/sales, but it doesn't cover Steam.
Is there a way to track historical prices for games on Steam?

That's an unusual example because it's a ps5 exclusive, never on Steam.
https://www.dekudeal... does show it dropped to $40 a year after release. $30 in Apr '23.
I'm playing it now via PS+ extra for "free"...
I wonder if Steam will eventually do some sort of game-pass like subscription thing. So far, I've been enjoying it. Though, I'm playing games "late" and things may be drying up as the year passes.

It doesn't send you notifications when games go on sale and if they are an all-time low, but I use this in combination for the Steam wishlist to determine if the current sale price is an all-time low since Steam's wishlist does send you an email when a game on your wishlist goes on sale.

I've been so backlogged that I end up playing all my PS5 games for free anyways once they hit Plus or whatever it's called now. Or for a pretty deep discount.
This month having CoD Black Ops (awesome game with a great zombies mode) and Alan Wake is pretty dope.

I'm a PS noob and I need some help. I'm looking to go ahead and sell my PS4 since I won't be playing anything on it for the foreseeable future, and then I'll get a PS5 sometime down the road, hopefully after a price drop. I want to make sure me and my son don't lose our saves. I thought they just saved to the cloud automatically, but it looks like that's just a PS+ feature, is that still the case? If so, can I just use a free trial long enough to get our saves saved to the cloud? Will it keep them there even once our PS+ trial ends? Also, once we get a PS5 down the road, will our saves even transfer to the PS5? If so, can we just do the free trial method again, long enough to download them to the system?
Edit: Looks like there's an option to save my save data to a USB device. Can I retrieve this on a PS5 later? Or is the only way to get save data transferred from PS4 to PS5 is to use cloud saves?

PS+ keeps the saves for a handful of years, so just do that. As I'm not 100% sure you can do a usb transfer of a PS4 backup to a PS5 either. I know you can do the initial data transfer between systems. But I don't think it will read/handle the PS4 backup file. It could. But I'd just go with PS+. Just simpler. And you don't have to worry about formatting a USB device and only using it for your PS console.
EDIT: apparently PS+ only keeps the saves on their server for 6 months after an expired sub now. So that might not be a good idea either. I'd go with the usb device knowing that now.

Edit: Looks like there's an option to save my save data to a USB device. Can I retrieve this on a PS5 later? Or is the only way to get save data transferred from PS4 to PS5 is to use cloud saves?
Saves made on a PS4 work perfectly on a PS5 using a USB. I transfer them all the time. This is assuming you are playing the same PS4 game on the PS5 system. You can't use a PS4 save for a PS5 version of the same game unless there is an in game save transfer option available. There are allot of games with this option, but you will need to have access to the PS4 version as its almost always an in game upload/transfer.
Something to keep in mind in the future is PS5 games you can't backup the saves to USB, only the cloud. So once you get a PS5 you might want to consider having a subscription. I had one time the power went out while I was playing the PS5. For whatever reason it basically bricked the system. I found some workaround online to get it to boot into safemode. My only option was a factory reset. I was pretty bummed as I lost 2 game saves with hundreds of hours. Its the main reason I quit wreckfest. I had all the online cars unlocked and lost everything. The system is supposed to back them up automatically, but for some reason I had no PS5 saves online.

Thank you both for all the info! I'm glad to hear I can use USB to transfer the saves. I'm not thrilled to find that I'll have to have a subscription for cloud saves once I'm on PS5 though. I barely ever play my PS's, so it's a lot of money compared to how much I actually need it.

Its just to backup PS5 saves. You can still use USB for PS4 game saves on the PS5.

I actually thought cloud saves were just free on PS5. I didn't realize you had to have PS+ in order to utilize them, that's why I was disappointed.

I did this too, nice! Thanks for posting about it.
Here's the promo page for it:

PS4 owners can get 3 months free.
I've done other free subs for AppleTV+ in the past using the same account, no problem.
We just started Silo and I'm looking forward to Foundation season 2 soon...

I will have to watch Foundation, I saw previews when I watched Silo. Noticed this from your posted link:
1Offer may only be redeemed once per PS5 console; limit one per Apple TV+ subscriber. Must be redeemed by 07/31/23. Offer redeemable through PS5 Media Home.
So this offers needs to be redeemed this month.

Yeah Clock Tower is nice, I'd be fine paying $15 for digital. This will probably be a good $35-$40.

I’m in the minority that doesn’t really mind LRG. I totally get the hate, though. I think I’ve only ordered from them once this year, but I do love having physical games. Hopefully both Clock Tower and the Zeboyd game - can’t remember what it’s called - are $29.99. Those are the only games they announced today that I’m interested in. Any more and I’ll probably pass.

I don't mind LRG, but if the choice is a $15 digital download or a $40 physical, I'm almost always going to go digital.
If there was a bit closer parity in the price (like $30 vs $40) it would be a more difficult choice.
But for all those ErickRPGs out there who need their Olivia Newton John fix, I'm glad LRG exists.

SUPER hyped. Tomba as well! Problem is, they didn't show any gameplay. So who knows how far away it is. also, I'm half way through Gex Enter the Gecko on my PS1. They talked about a new "engine" so is it possible it's more than just a "remaster" and it has beefed up graphics and actual analog control? If so, man. I might just want to wait and play that instead.
As far as poorly aged jokes. If you watch the trailer again when he said "who were you expecting" it does NOT sound like a young Dana Gould. I think it's possible he voices the trilogy again with new jokes. That's just my speculation based on the sound of his voice in that trailer.

They’d be dumb to do a PS5 Pro anytime soon. Plus I mean, what’s the point really? I feel that the hardware hasn’t changed much in the last 3 years. Unless it’ll promise all games locked at 60fps or something then that may be more attractive to me. They should just make a slim model and drop the price $50 on the standard model, since the current state of the PS5 console is a massive wifi router in itself.
