In the end this is still Mario Kart 8, the same game we've been playing for almost a decade now.
Unpopular opinion here but 8 is a far better kart racing game than 8DX.
So really it's only been the last 5ish years.

I know your reasoning was about the extra item making things more chaotic, but in my opinion that's what makes Mario Kart games fun is the chaos. I don't even like returning to pre-MK Wii entries because they're not chaotic enough.
I read today that the online servers for MK8 on Wii U were shut down (also Splatoon), so just for that reason alone I wouldn't consider it the superior game anymore.

It's pretty damn close. One of the more underrated kart racers, that's for sure. It's a shame the one that released after it was nothing but a turd.

I played Splatoon 1 a month ago. When did servers shut down? I don’t see anything about that….

You monster
Honestly I wouldn't mind the two items if they went back to 8 karts. But 2 items with 12 karts and it's less of a test of skill and more of whether you happen to get lucky at the end of lap 3.
I'm on board with some randomness but too much chaos and you may as well just do a coin flip to decide the winner.

So who’s playing Octopath Traveler II? Sorry if I missed it. For those playing, how are you liking it? I just booted it up and it seems a bit daunting at first but I’m sure it’ll be fine. Gonna really dive in once I finish Minish Cap.

It follows pretty much the same structure as the first Octopath. People who didn't like the first probably wouldn't like the sequel either. I'm really enjoying it but loved the original as well.

I own the first and enjoyed what I played of it, but for whatever reason I never continued. I will one day, but it was the vastly improved location visuals of the second that reeled me in this time. The first is gorgeous but the locations I’ve seen from the second look wild, and I love the art style.
@loztdogs There for sure is dialogue in there, but this one is fully voice acted, if that changes anything. I forget if the first was, I tend to remember just a line or so of voice acting then a bunch of text.

Again, it's more of the same. Lots of dialogue, but that's true for most JRPGs. At least there's a lot more game play than reading in the Octopath Traveler games.

The first one is probably my favorite Switch game, and so far I’m loving the second, also. Through two chapters with three characters and one chapter with two. Started with Osvald, but Throné is my favorite so far.

Octopath II apparently had a pretty nice steel book as a pre-order from Best Buy. Probably would have ordered it had I known:

That is a neat metal box… but do steel books come with anything particularly special? In-game or a book or anything? I’ve never really seen the allure of just the same game case in a metal box, even if the art on the box does admittedly look wonderful. I’m probably missing something.

Just a metal box with nice art (that doesn't mean it isn't worth it though, especially if it comes bundled with the game as a pre-order bonus).

I still have my persona strikers steelbook that I need to sell. I DO have some blu ray steelbooks but I never really care for video game steelbooks, always get rid of them.

Nintendo Life did a '50 years of gaming on Switch' list which really got me thinking how much the system has available on it (especially with all the retro compilations)
https://www.nintendo...
I don't agree with all of their choices, but a cool idea nonetheless

I started with Throne, but Hikari is probably my favorite character to use. Not surprising since I usually pick the warrior class in games with job options. Regardless, I haven't removed Throne from my party even though I've finished her last chapter and can swap her out now.
