Do you generally keep games that you beat? What makes you keep a game vs not?

I played Super Mario 3D World/Bowser's Fury with a relative. Was a lot of fun. We played the games fairly thoroughly.
I don't plan on replaying either any time soon, but the game was great fun as a multiplayer, so I can't bring myself to get rid of the game. Even if I myself don't replay it, maybe other family members would. So I kept it.
As opposed to certain 1P games that once I was done with them didn't seem worth holding on to.
What makes you keep a game? What makes you get rid of a game?

It’s all about the price for me. Even if I know I’ll want to replay the game in a year I’ll sell/trade it if it’s worth something today. The I’ll get it when I want to give it a whirl again later.
I bought Uncharted 4 last year for $5 shipped, and I remember selling mine around launch for like $45. So I had $40 to play with instead of the game gathering dust that whole time.

I don't often play through games more than once, but still at this point I don't really sell or trade anything I buy anymore, with the exception of my PS Vita stuff I sold locally a few months ago that was probably the first time I sold a gaming item in a decade. I gave my PS4 and a handful of games to one of my nieces before I moved out of state back in October, even though I could've probably gotten an easy $200-$250 had I listed that on Craigslist but I don't regret just passing it down to her because with PS5 being backwards compatible I no longer needed it.

I try to break even on PS5 and switch games. If I buy a game for $30 i'll try to sell for $30 shipped so I lose a couple bucks but get the beat a game. I'll keep a game if I plan on playing it again (Elden Ring) or it's so cheap that I can play through it leisurely (Immortals Fenix Rising)

I couldn't tell you the last time I bought a physical copy of a game for anything more than $20, so I generally keep those cheaper physical or I'm buying digital and can't offload them.

I have children so I tend to keep all of my retro multi-player games. I'll usually trade anything if I don't think I'll ever play it again... and I've recently shifted to trading all of the retro games I collectarded for the sake of a big collection, but don't actually have much interested in playing. (see my available list ;))
There are times where I traded items I regretted in order to get something else I wanted at the time (still looking for another copy of SOTN after trading my last one lol).
As far as modern games, I pretty much trade/sell everything after it's been beaten or played out.
Long winded here but I'll also mention that generally a big factor for me in aquiring or keeping a game is if my friends or children like it.. .since I like to enjoy games with others. For example, my buddy HATES Sword of Sodan and Deadly Towers since he got shafted with them as the only games he had at times as a kid and they were terrible LOL.. so I want to aquire a copy of each so we can play them together and re-live the terribleness... because that's fun, right? ha ha

I almost always keep my games. On the rare occasion that I buy a game and don't end up enjoying it, I'll sell it. But, that doesn't happen very often. I'm usually able to tell from trailers and gameplay videos whether or not I'll enjoy a game.

After putting 100+ hours into Dragon Quest Builders 2, I let it go. Figured I got the full experience. After putting 100+ hours into Hades, thoroughly doing most of what there is to do, I finished with that. But I kept Hades.
Sounds like you would have put more time into Elden Ring had you kept it.

I keep games I might go back to later. Resident Evil 2-3 Remake, Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Kirby Dream Land 3, Super Mario World, Zone of the Enders 1 and 2. Dead Space 1-2. I buy a lot of digital games and am forced to keep them. Megaman X 1-3. Star Fox 64. Infamous Second Son and First Light. I still have a N64 and SNES. Might check out buying them on the Switch if they still have the virtual console.
Thinking about buying a Sindel Light Gun and getting Time Crisis and House of the Dead.
I don't really keep many modern games now. I think the only upcoming modern game I might keep is Resident Evil 4 remake but buying that digitally.

I also stick closely to franchises that I like (Disgaea, Star Ocean, etc.), so my collection isn't exactly bogged down much. There are also games from my childhood (GT2, Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy VIII) that I like to keep just for the nostalgia value even though I can play those games on digital (and Vita) whenever I like.
Currently diving into the Atelier rabbit hole, not sure if I like the franchise just yet (but already have a significant amount sunk into it, lol). We'll see if they're gems worth keeping for me, or if I should let someone who likes the series have 'em.

Yeah I played through it twice. Got the plat pretty quickly (save scumming).

There are some series that I never get rid of, but usually it's about how much I liked the game or its current value. I wound up keeping most of my well liked PS4 games even though I rarely, if ever, played then again.

I used to keep everything. Then a couple years ago, after moving in to a smaller house, I decided that was no longer sustainable. So I started selling off the games I have completed. The general exception to that being games I have a Twin Galaxies high score on, if there is ever a need to submit a better score. Have also gotten rid of some of the cartridge based games that I'm on the fence about if I ever actually want to play it or not. I have Everdrives for almost every cartridge based system I have, so not having access to the game is not really a concern for me. Everdrives are also why I got rid of my Game Genies too, since that is a built in feature.

As far as beating a game and getting rid of it, I usually don't, unless it's still a newer release. Most of those times though I'm playing it while it's new, trading it for something else I want to keep, and then repurchasing it again down the road if it's cheap enough to warrant adding as a permanent fixture to the collection...
That said, I also have a ton I want to get rid of, but I don't have enough time to properly organize them and get them all listed out on different venues (since I doubt anyone on here has a lot of interest these days).
