Currently has a May 12 2023 release date. That's just over 4 months away. That's not so far, but there isn't that much known about it.

Here's a video that has the reveal trailer and other info that has so far been released.

https://youtu.be/30D...

Is it unusual for such an anticipated title that's only several months away to not have much known about it?

I don't usually follow games along their pre-release stages, so perhaps a lack of info is standard.

Personally, I'd rather a lack of info when it comes to games that I plan on playing. I don't care for spoilers, or to watch every trailer that comes out.

I'd have thought there'd be more out about it though. But again, I don't usually follow along with the progress of game development.

Definitely a game I'm looking forward to though.

I enjoyed the Shrines quite a bit, but didn't care for the Divine Beasts. Traditional dungeons + shrines would be perfect.

Yeah, I'd be OK with both shines and dungeons.

I actually enjoyed Divine Beasts more in this recent replay. They are a little bit like a dungeon. The controls that shift the beast to allow you to solve them was an enjoyable mechanic too. The boss battles seemed very easy this time around, though I'm OK with that.

The boss battles was probably my biggest complaint. I didn't care for fighting black gas 5 times as the main bosses, but the divine beasts were interesting as they each had similar stages throughout. They seemed like a good entry for something that could be better.

Yeah, I'm really hoping I can get that collector's edition that they're most probably going to announce.

Remember the days when we could simply go to a local store and buy the new stuff that came out, instead of having to hope that someone doesn't grab it online .28 of a second quicker than you? You could even pre-order at a store. Now sometimes the stores can't even take your in-person pre-order because their inventory was sold out online.

Some things were much simpler back then. And back then doesn't even have to be way back. Even 10-12 years ago was a lot different than now in certain ways.

Supposedly the game will retail for $70. wry smile

In general I don't get games on release day anyway, with my gaming backlog being pretty full, so I don't mind waiting for a gradual price drop or good deal. But there are certain games, such as Tears of the Kingdom, that I've been looking forward to and would like to play sooner rather than later. We'll see what happens.

Yah, kicking myself for not grabbing it while it was cheaper ... oh well, it'll be worth it, all 5+ copies I end up buying, haha.

Nintendo does not drop the price on their in-house games much. So, waiting for a cheap price isn't a great strategy and buying day 1 isn't much worse than you'd pay later anyway.

I tried playing a little Skyward Sword... ugh, the controls (particularly the camera control) are so awkward. It made me appreciate botw even more. It feels like they worked out the controls for botw better than other 3D zelda games. Tears should be good too.

I tried starting up a game of SS a few months ago but ended up not sticking with it. I don't remember what it was about the controls, but I remember really not liking them.

Yeah, you're right. The big titles don't usually get discounted for awhile. Sometimes they do around the holidays or black Friday, or a store running a b2g1.

That being said, the $70 price tag hurts a little more. $70 isn't the end of the world, but to me $60 was accepted as the current standard and it seemed to "fit" somehow for a AAA game. $70 though? The number just sounds like a bit too much for a game.

Will I still buy the game? Probably. But I'll be just a bit less excited than I would have been. It's a damper on the perceived experience.

5 copies? I'm guessing you mean the regular game, the edition that comes with an art book, the cool European Steelbook Edition, and the Extreme Edition that comes with a replica of Link's hand glider

Oh, wait, that's 4 copies. What's the fifth?

@Scott @bill

You both mentioned the controls of Skyward Sword not being to your liking. Were they better than the inverted controls of Nintendo GameCube Wind Waker? Just felt very off to me. I can't quite figure out why Nintendo did that.

Pretty sure I've told you this before but you can switch to non-inverted in Wind Waker HD. I do hate inverted controls, but this was different. Again, I can't remember exactly what my issue was with SS, I just remember something about the controls being very awkward.

Oh, ok cool, haha. Those are what I own for BotW.

No idea what TotK will do, safe to assume they'll do something similar ... and probably a console.
