Currently has a May 12 2023 release date. That's just over 4 months away. That's not so far, but there isn't that much known about it.

Here's a video that has the reveal trailer and other info that has so far been released.

https://youtu.be/30D...

Is it unusual for such an anticipated title that's only several months away to not have much known about it?

I don't usually follow games along their pre-release stages, so perhaps a lack of info is standard.

Personally, I'd rather a lack of info when it comes to games that I plan on playing. I don't care for spoilers, or to watch every trailer that comes out.

I'd have thought there'd be more out about it though. But again, I don't usually follow along with the progress of game development.

Definitely a game I'm looking forward to though.

The Rewind ability seemed good. Fuse... definitely interesting and potentially fun, but at the same time it feels like the sort of thing I don't love about botw-style Zelda. It's hard to put into words exactly, but it seems like it will have me fussing over tons of pieces/parts from inventory and using the game menus to select things and whatnot. All that is not really playing the game in a way I look for in a zelda game. It feels a bit like them doubling-down on breakable weapons (which are too many and a bit fussy imho) I want to be moving, flowing, upgrading, and progressing without fussing over my inventory.
I feel the same way. While the Fuse ability does look pretty cool, it's not something I'm interested in tinkering with. I can see a lot of players spending hours and hours playing around with it, coming up with all sorts of unique combinations. But that's just not something I care to spend a lot of time on. I want to be actively playing the game.

So, there's been hardly any conversation on here about the gameplay itself. What did everyone think? The new abilities are definitely very cool. I'm especially liking the Fuse ability. However, I hope there's a lot they're still not showing us. Otherwise, what I've been predicting (or what I've been afraid of) for a while now is true. It's basically BotW 2.0 with some new areas in the sky, slightly altered world map, and a couple new abilities.
I’m curious on what you mean by this. This was always going to be breath of the wild 2.0 no? It’s a sequel set in the same world that’s been altered with improvements. They could add full length dungeons, new abilities and it would still be 2.0 no?

I think I agree though with what you are saying that I hope they do more to distinguish it from botw but I think it’s going for the angle of improving and adding to the formula.

What are you hoping they add? I’d love to see large dungeons of old and some classic Zelda items such as hook shot

I don't see large classic dungeons given the new abilities. It looks like it's doubling down on the open world sandbox world (i.e. exploration is paramount with experimentation being a bigger focus). I'm pumped, plus I got my fork!

Edit: Looking at the world, I'm guessing more of the same. Mini-dungeons (shrines or equivalent) and a handful of medium dungeons (like divine beasts).

Not necessarily. I mean, most people figured this was the direction they would go, but it really wasn't confirmed until the first teaser trailer which came out June 2021. But even though we've known since then that they were re-using the same overworld from BotW, it wasn't clear just how different it was going to be. Now that we've gotten more glimpses from a few different trailers, it's looking more and more like not too much has changed. My hope was either 1) the landscape would be heavily altered, possibly from a long passing of time or some huge catastrophe, or 2) there would be some sort of dark/alternate version of the BotW Hyrule (the original cinematic trailer pointed toward this, IMO). Classic dungeons on top of that would be enough change for me.

What I really want is a Zelda game that's more like the older Zelda games in terms of progression, story, dungeons, etc. I would just want it to take place in a huge, interactive world like BotW, with most of the new stuff that game introduced. But, I've known for a while that it's extremely unlikely that they would steer too far off the direction that BotW took things. I mentioned earlier in the thread why classic dungeons really don't make sense in the type of Zelda game that BotW (and TotK) is. Most of the classic items are made irrelevant by the new abilities too. You don't need a hook shot when you can just climb and paraglide everywhere.

And that's a shame because the hook shot has always been one of my favorites.

Now that TotK is finally coming out, I think it's time for me to play BotW for the first time. Can you believe I haven't yet?

Wouldn't it be badass if TotK had a one time entry to gerudo valley playing something similar to this? Red Dead Redemption did it masterfully with entering Mexico. Gave me chills. Won't happen, but great music.

Best Buy orders will include an art print:

https://www.bestbuy....

Better than the GS bonus. I'll switch over my pre-order for the CE if I see a chance, but don't expect it.

I like the GS one better... but not buying it from GS with all their shenanigans.

I kinda want these. Not exactly sure why though 😅. If anyone happens to be getting these with the Japanese version, and wants to sell/trade them, please let me know.

I kinda want them too lol If they were one of the US pre-order bonuses I would definitely go out of my way to get them. But I'm not gonna pay extra just to get them from Japan.

I would want it to actually use :)

It's 7920 Yen, which is around 59-60 USD. The only reason I didn't order it is because I want the English version of the game.

If you're okay with the Japanese version of the game, uoud actually be saving yourself 10 dollars. (I didn't count shipping. Maybe it's free because it's directly from Amazon Japan? I don't know)

Ah, spoon and fork require a big combo. Either all amiibos, both zelda, or bundled with a non CE switch. Silly.

If they wanted to, they absolutely could. The shrines in BotW didn't allow climbing. So the walls could be unclimbable and then have hookshot locations. Then you can use the hookshot to make travel easier in the overworld. It also appears as though they are getting rid of bombs...a bomb bag seems like a no brainer as a dungeon upgrade. How about instead of weapons that you use to get through the dungeon and fight the boss, you get special upgrades that you couldn't get elsewhere...things you don't need to get through the overworld portion of the game, but maybe something that makes life easier.

I don't know. It seems to me that if they wanted to add dungeons, they could figure it out. We KNOW that the 120 shrines and the 4 divine beasts will not be returning, so they HAVE to replace them with something. Even if they are not the traditional dungeons from previous Zeldas, I would still take something. Maybe mini-dungeons, each with some tough enemies at the end and then a larger dungeon in each of the game's big sections with a large and unique boss (similar to the divine beasts but none of this XXXblight Ganon crap).

I loved Breath of the Wild. I know people had legitimate complaints (weapon breaking system, empty overworld, lack of enemy variety), but the shrine similarity and 4 divine beasts with 4 generic bosses were easily my biggest issue. There is nothing unique about any of those things. I HATED the beasts, even more on my second playthrough. One of my favorite parts of BotW was the island where they take all your stuff away and you have to complete it with the items you find on the island. I would love to see more of places like that.

Just over a month until the release date. Putting my gaming backlog, which I have been making progress on, to the side for this. Very much looking forward.

Real question is... Can we best HFW DLC + Jedi Survivor before TotK?

DLC aside, Jedi Survivor comes out on the 28th of April. Are you really planning on getting it and beating it before May 12th?
