same situation for me (minus the wife-having)
I have 4 controllers but only 3 in rotation as one of the first ones had drift issue. And i’m sensing it happening slowly on one or two of the remaining ones now, so I guess I’ll have to buy another controller at some point. Switch is even worse when it comes to this.
Seems absurd, i don’t remember PS3 era and previous having such issues with the analogue sticks, felt like you got way more life out of each controller

I needed to replace one of my ps4 controllers (drift) about a month before I got a ps5. Oh well.
That was the first time I'd had trouble with a ps3/4 controller.
I had more trouble with ps2 controllers.
The worst was Atari 2600 joysticks. My brother and I would break one every few months. I can still remember what they were like inside because we often took them apart to try to fix them.

Haven't played anything in a while. But on a whim the other day logged on to the PS5 and saw The Witcher 3 next-gen update was out. So I downloaded it instead of spending money on something I probably wouldn't play. Lots of good changes (mainly updates to movement and combat, fast casting of signs and a bunch of balancing fixes). It actually sucked me back in. Not sure if because I haven't played anything in a very long time, or what. Right game at the right time kind of thing. But I imported my old PS4 save and started with the DLC. Not sure if I'll replay the main game or not yet. But gosh darn is this DLC fantastic. I forgot how good the DLC is.
It also made me want to watch the new Witcher thing on Netflix. That was a mistake. I don't think the people involved in that ever read the books. They just made up their own story, and its not great. The acting is also very poor.

I played like 3 hours of God of War and I really just don’t get it.
Like it’s pretty and is seamlessly linear, but the voice acting and story kind of annoy me, as they did before, but somehow this seems worse, but won more awards?

They took a series that was 95% over the top violent combat and made it 75% boring cinematics and walks in the snow. I didn’t like it very much until the endgame stuff and then it was fun as hell. Mostly because the story was finally over. It felt like a lot of investment for a little return. I don’t understand why anyone would want a NG+ here.

I recently started playing Returnal for the first time.
I don't do too badly, but I'm terrible at dashing and taking zero damage, so my adrenaline is usually low.
After days of playing, I failed to beat Phrike. Honestly, I only made it to him like 3 times.
I tried hosting a game (generally multi-player is not my thing). I got a guy that seemed pretty good. We made it to Phrike after he revived me a couple times, but we had low health and we died.
The next game, Phrike's room was right at the start and the dude was still with me, so we tried again, without exploring/upgrading. Died again and he left my game.
I started thinking this game sucks. I'm going to quit. Then, I beat Phrike. I didn't even use the astronaut I had. I'm glad but also feel weird because I had half-convinced myself to give up on this stupid game.
Witcher 3 game was decent. I know many love it, but it was just pretty good for me. Witcher TV show was good at times, but I didn't love all the non-Witcher political stuff. I would have preferred just focusing on the Witcher and the interesting monsters, more like the game. It's a bad sign that Henry Cavill left the show, but I'll keep watching. I'll probably watch that Michelle Yeoh prequel soonish, though it doesn't look great.

The first Witcher 3 DLC is one of my favorite stories in video game history. The second is a good wrap to the story. Both essential playing. I want to jump in and see the updates, but I’ll get sucked into another 100+ hour play through for a third time and I have plenty of other games I haven’t touched yet. One of the best games of all time and arguably the greatest of the eighth generation

I’m seeing all these images of the update and it looks great. I’m like you- I really want to check it out but 100% I’ll burn through another platinum. HoS story and villain are so great. Creepy stuff.

I’ll say this. I absolutely LOVE cinematic movie games LIKE Detroit. Even liked heavy rain. But I also thought Detroit was whack. Like the storyline wasn’t there, and without that…..wtf???
I was however surprised to see “Immortality” nominated for a number of awards this year. That game is kind of genius in the world of MOVIE games.

Ok this is exactly how I felt with the snow walking and snore fest story. I think I’m good quitting 3 hours in and going onto something else. I’m still finding Bayonetta 3 to be more enjoyable action.(then again it won best action game so….)

The biggest turn off for me was the huge puzzle areas- but they are so well done it becomes fun to figure them out. I think I quit 3-4 hours in before I came back to it after a few weeks.

I think you will probably like it as youre a DSouls veteran. This game felt to me like a Dsouls game with guns.
Its tough to get used to at first but its fun once you get a hang of it. I normally played 1 or 2 runs max and called it quits for the day. The 1rst boss did kill me a few times but eventually got him as his attacks can be learned. I thought the rest of the game was easier for some reason except for the last stage which kicked my ass. Im pretty sure I wasnt supposed to get through the previous levels that easily and thus my guns were under powered for the last stage.

Yeah, I think I'll do something like 1-2 runs per day. My progress seems semi-random. Like, I'll do great sometimes, but often will die early too. Also, the game seems like it's going to take longer to make a run because I want to build-up before skipping ahead. I haven't spent much time in biome 2 yet. I've been doing daily challenges too, which seem less hard and I get some ether.

You can skip straight to Biome 2. In the beginning there's a pickup to level you up to the appropriate level. Only downside is you might not get a weapon you like.

The +5 proficiency thing at the start of biome 2 is nice.
I got the Crimson Key from beating Phrike, but the Crimson Gateway's location is random in biome 1. So, I may still have to do some of biome 1 before I can skip to biome 2.
I assume the upper level with a light thing that's right at the start near my crashed ship requires some other equipment I don't have yet but might take me direct to biome 3.
Potentially, if I play most of Biome 1 and do well, I will have more integrity, consumables, good parasites, and artifacts. But it takes extra time and I often just die. So, I'll have to see how it goes. At this point, I may go to biome 2 the first chance I get to see how well I do.

If you've been keeping your PS5 vertical like I have...maybe don't do that anymore.

I keep mine horizontal as well. Mostly because back when I had my ps2 vertical the drive would do weird things. Seemed bad for the discs.

My TV stand thing has only horizontal space. I don't love the weird little hooked piece that it sits on. The ps5 slides off it if I touch it. This doesn't seem to matter much either.
