Looks lazy. I was decently hyped at first, but damn. Really, none of the 3D social environment of the original? The point and click crap they had to do for PSP? All FES really needed was female protagonist and full party control in battle, but instead we get this.

FES was/is one of the most important games to me that I have ever played, so sorry for the rant lol.

Is Answer in the remake? If not, I'm gonna be stuck keeping Marin fudgein' Karin FES around…

From what I have read, the devs lost the code for FES so we will never see it. I feel the same way you do.

If I’ve never played 3, but loved 4 and 5 is this new version the way to go or what would you recommend?

The only reason I'd say go with the new version is that you can directly control all party members in battle. If you don't mind them auto battling, 3 FES is the way to go, that's how I played it. It's a great game and has a much darker tone than 4 or 5.

There's a controllable party members cheat for P3 Fes that works pretty well in an emulator.

FES all the way! Mitsuru will drive you crazy because she casts Marin Karin all the damn time, but it's the definitive experience. At least until Atlus comes to its senses and gives us a proper remake.

I played P3P first, on the PSP back in the day. Then played FES on a PS2. And I 100% disagree. I think Portable is a much better version than FES.

I'd agree that it's a better game in terms of the core gameplay since it's basically Persona 4. That and the inclusion of the female protagonist are big highlights. I played it and loved it, but it's far too streamlined for my liking. No anime cutscenes, not being able to free roam, and the entire overworld just being a giant menu essentially...I didn't hate the visual novel style, but it doesn't hit the same way seeing everything play out in 3D does, imo.

Plus I love The Answer. I know P3 fans are split on it and I know you could just Youtube the cutscenes, but the entire P3 experience feels incomplete without it.

I stand corrected!
Holy crap is this port bad. I can't play this. They did nothing to this. Its the exact mobile version from PSP on console. And its terrible like this. They didn't even modernize the controls to a controller. They just re-mapped a couple buttons. Its awful. The game worked on PSP/Vita like this. But what a terrible experience with a controller 14 years later. I'd rather dig out the PS2 and play FES than even attempt to play this version. But instead I'll just go be a big bro and play the best persona game, P4G.

Fudge. When I saw the $20 price point I was like oh well, good compromise. But it sucks that bad? Dammit

I mean, its still a great game. It would just take some getting used to playing it like that. And I could have very well overreacted to the controller setup. I played on Xbox via gamepass. But it did feel really bad trying to play it on an xbox controller. I can't speak for PS4/5 controller setup. But oddly P4G feels much better on that controller. They updated that one. But that may also just be due to that releasing on the Vita and not the PSP. The Vita had more buttons due to the dual touch screen. So they didn't really have much to do than re-map a couple inputs.

I think it's mostly fine. Buy it and then snag an ISO IMO, if you need FES. Or just pay twice as much to pick it up on PS2. I'm at least gonna install it off PC Game Pass.

It would probably be a much better experience on PC with a mouse. Since its just a point and click 75% of the game in this version.

I'm noticing that, I was like was this game always a visual novel?

Emulator with fast-forward is a godsend. Save states are also super helpful when hunting for enemies with rare drops.

Honestly, pacing for the PSP game seems godlike. I might try out FES later but this seems fine so far, only stopped playing to get up, get some water and do some push-ups, gotta keep it tite. Already inside Tartarus.
