I see a lot of YouTubers collecting pretty hard for the switch but it doesn't seem like much of a priority on here? I've enjoyed collecting for the Switch over the years because of their amazing library of RPGs, retro themed games , "Metroid - Vanias" and side scrollers. Wanted to gauge a pulse of the community and thoughts, positive or negative.

Thanks!

I have over 200 physical Switch games, which is the most I've ever owned for a single system. I wouldn't say I'm a "hardcore" collector though, since I could easily part with most of them.

That's a solid collection! I should've specified physical games too because if we include digital the possibilities are endless.

I have a pretty sizeable collection of switch games. Not really trying to "collect" per se, just that's what happens when a ton of cool and interesting games get released on the system.

Yeah, if we include digital, I'm probably closer to 600-700. (Damn eshop sales.)

A lot of them are just garbage games that I got for free or with a few gold coins lol. I rarely spend more than $10 on a digital game.

Yeah same, even the games I want I wait until they're at least 50% off

The switch game case is a nice size. More games can fit on the shelf compared to other game cases.

I like the style of Nintendo's art. The cover art on the game cases tends to be good.

Do you display any of them?

I couldn't agree more with all the above. The cases are small, I like the sleek red spine on all of them and the cover art is awesome on most games. I currently have all of mine in alphabetical order and only have a few turned out facing front because I really like the art. Some of the best to display and the easiest to collect for when it comes to space.

I do this too, though I'm at the point where the retro stuff i actually need I won't ever find or get my hands on because it's rare and expensive, so I've been collecting for the switch on and off for the last couple years

Thankfully for me, outside of US Saturn games, most of the stuff I owned as a lad isn't prohibitively expensive. I also don't necessarily have nostalgia for owning it on the original cartridge/disc if there are other options that are just as good (or nearly so) for a more sensible price. Mini-consoles and compilations are a good example of this.

Bringing it back to the topic of Switch, there are quite a few great compilations and retro releases for the system, which I really enjoy.

Edit: over 1300 retro games at the time the below article was published:

I've warmed up to the mini retro consoles and and complications. They were never as good as they are now, and the switch has done a solid job of remastering and creating sequels to many classics.

I couldn't agree more with this even after thinking more about it....it feels very different then the Wii where there was so much shovel wear, I feel like the Switch has a lot of bangers and tries to focus on some really important genres. I don't remember any Nintendo system having as many RPGs/SRPGs.

There is 100x more shovelware on the switch than was even dreamed of on Wii. Most of it just lives on the eshop now so you don't notice if you are buying physical games.

Very true, I meant physical games. digital games have skyrocketed since the Wii and there is a bunch of trash out there haha

Yeah, I was going to say something similar. I don't remember Wii games having titles like Hooligan Simulator - San Gangster Andreas Fight For City, Battle Gangs, Shooter Police.

The eshop is about as bad as Steam. And there might be too many games with a physical release too. Some of them clearly don't deserve it.

Hooligan Simulator hahaha, Gotta be selective!

Yeah there are definitely a good amount of bad games with physical releases too, maybe I am just impressed that there are so many more bangers on the Switch comparatively.

Yeah, overall it's my favorite system ever. Especially if we're talking about first party games and RPGs.

There are a lot of games with titles like Hooligan Simulator. It's just "developers" trying to show up in as many search results as possible.

Yeah I honestly think it is my second favorite system ever behind the SNES. I am not sure if any console will pass that though due to nostalgia. The Switch does have so many amazing RPGs, both first party and indy titles.
