Taylor Swift - Exile Had no idea how good her 2020 folk indie albums were. Probably not much of an audience here but they are worth a listen.
She’s quite talented. Caught my eye when Ryan adams did all of 1989. Shes a great songwriter.
Bon Iver is on that track. He’s a haunting presence. Nice.

She can't make a great full album to save her life, but there are quite a few bangers in the catalogue

I think shes the only female to ever win 3 grammys for "best album of the year." 1989 is regarded by most as a top pop album of all time. Folklore won grammy for album of the year for 2020.

I've always loved Taking Back Sunday. Tell All Your Friends is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I like a lot of their other songs too. They were fantastic live back in the day. Unfortunately, their live performance has dropped off a bit in the last few years. The instruments still sound great, but Adam's voice has gone downhill, and now he goes off on a lot of random tangents and kinda half-sings half talks sometimes and starts going into weird accents for some reason. It was that way last year when I saw them at Furnace Fest too. Hockey Dad was not bad, but it's not really my kind of music (Australian surf rock).

Whole song absolutely rules, but from 7:40 or so, until the end, just proves how fudging good Claudio is... singer, guitarist, overall musiscianship. Wild.
This is the closer on their most recent album, and they don't have any professionally-filmed versions of it yet, but this video still nails it.

Silent Earth is easily my favorite Coheed album and up until a little bit a go, SSTB was an easy second but this new albulm, Vaxis Act II, may have taken that spot. It's such a great marriage of all the different genres Coheed have resided in but in such a wildly cohesive way. Blew me away tbh.

I'd fudgein love to see them. I gotta try to get out to a show if they keep it going. I didn't see the Boston show, looks like they're in DC next.
Also guitar solos exist in just about every genre of music that features guitars, and people (dorks) will mosh to anything with a power chord. Cmaahhn.

Oh boy @theyrhere I've tried to get into Lorna Shore but I can't. Something about how they do the symphonic part is just over-produced or something to me. However, because of them, I have found some good symphonic deathcore:
Shadow of Intent
Brand of Sacrifice (lifeblood song in particular)
The Voynich Code
Darker By Design (has a Flesgod Apocalypse like sound)
The Breathing Process

Last saw them live in 1991 on the Anthrax & Public Enemy tour!
EDIT: Correction. Saw them with Iron Maiden in 1991. Saw them with Public Enemy some other time? Or maybe after Maiden that year. Memory is foggy on that, but they toured with Maiden and also with Public Enemy in 1991 - and I saw both somewhere along the way.

You know how you can tell that the radio is really not doing it for you?
I was listening to whatever was playing on FM radio, switching between stations. Couldn't find anything that I liked listening to. And then an ad started playing. I was legitimately more excited for the ad than for the music.

Thanks for sharing. I've basically never listened to black metal before, but I kinda dig this. I listened to a few of their songs and was pleasantly surprised by the punk/hardcore elements in them. I found an interview, and they actually talked about having some background/influences in punk and hardcore as well. Also, it's cool that they're openly anti-fascist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobia, anti-racist, anti-ableist, etc.

They're my favorite antifascist black metal band by a mile. Last album rips too. The vocalist is also in Nistikko which is a gnarly band I'd say is closest to grindcore.

Melissa - II (full ep)
Listened 2 times back to back, so glad to have a new Melissa. First EP was one of my favorites of 2021. Its black/hardcore but the cover art is nsfw so I'll just link bandcamp lol. Think fans of hardcore and black metal can both enjoy, but the HC comes through a little more IMO.

This randomly started playing on Spotify. I thought to myself that it sounded like something else I know from a game called Radiant Historia, composed by Yoko Shimomura. So I went to look what was playing, and I noticed that it was from Final Fantasy XV. I looked at the composer, and guess who it is. Yoko Shimomura. Felt pretty good to recognize the style of a composer whose music I enjoy.
