Ford - Powerboost or Lightning

I'm torn on what to do and have to make a decision quickly.

So I reserved a Lightning (on day 3) and didn't make the cut this year. So I caved, and put in for a 2022 Powerboost (Limited) about 5 months ago (with a Z plan - that is not a guarantee to be available to me next year). Just got notified that it'll be assembled near end of September (after 5 months of zero communication).

My lease was up 8 months ago (2018 Platinum with 44k miles - should end around 8k or more miles under lease); however, I kept extending monthly in waiting to trade in towards next one.

I'm sure I probably should have simply bought out the lease and sold open market (still can); however, with the fee's and hassle of buying then selling ... I was/am naively optimistic that my dealership will get me close enough to close the gap between private and trade-in with all the fee's managed. My dealership told me typically, that open market only makes sense if you can make > 7% of cost to cover all the fee's/tax/etc. when buying out the lease.

KBB is saying I should be somewhere between $42k to $50k for the value of my truck, yet I just tried out Carvana & Vroom and they both offered me $38k --- not great leverage to show the dealership!

I'm stuck in debate, and I have to crap or get of the pot really soon. A few questions/points:
- Do I wait out the Lightning and skip the Powerboost? The cost of gas seems to be coming down relatively quick, hope/assume it will continue to decline, but who knows!
- First gen of Ford's EV seems to be going well ... but 300 miles max, leaves for some anxiety (even though there's a ton of charging stations out there now), and you know their next gen they'll probably have a much longer distance.
- That damn Frunk, man I want that ... grocery shopping with kids/dogs in a truck, pain in the ass.
- No timeline as of now on when the '23 Lightning will even be available.
- Do I buy out my current lease and attempt to sell open market?
- I'm nervous about the payment on a Limited If I don't get a good offer on trade-in, probably overdid it here but got excited having a Z plan for the first time

Thanks for any/all feedback

Going Raiden all the way. Car is white/black and blue accents so it fits with his colors too. I can't believe RAIDEN is available.

Oh yeah their app is garbage. It's good to check my mileage when my insurance company randomly asks for it.

I got a JuiceBox installed for faster charging and its app is garbage too. But I am loving mine. I have hit about 300 miles and only used 1/8 tank of my original fill up from the dealer. I am absolutely getting the estimated MPG/E and it's just what was needed. A big SUV and good gas economy. I love the balance of it! Just wish I was able to get a 3rd row and/or panoramic sun roof. I might go Wrangler next time... IDK, we'll see. I love having extra cargo space.

Jesus christ... Wranglers are so fun! Took the top off, drove it through my yard, having a blast! I'm legit jelly of of my wife's new ride.

Yet I still sit here waiting for the Powerboost... Month 9, fun.

Just get another Wrangler, lol. I am leaning towards buying this Cherokee at the end of the lease for the family vehicle and maybe leasing a Wrangler for fun. Depends on money in 3yrs though too. They are tons of fun!

Just shy of a year ... got my Limited Powerboost today! Sure glad I'm buying a year old model already, but the cost (and wait) to jump to a '23, just wasn't worth it, especially after all this time. Crazy enough, using a Z plan, my payment is actually lower than my 2018 Platinum was. Worked out quite well. With the exception that they removed a few features due to chip shortages. I lost out on:
- Massaging seats (which I think I used 5x ever in my life over the last 3 trucks)
- Park assist (to auto parallel park - which I never used)

Tons of badass upgrades, loving it. Most of my drive home was highway, so haven't really seen the full power of how the hybrid components work, but was fun watching it charge/discharge with the little city driving I did off the highway.

Some absolutely bonkers design changes though. Most are just having to learn a new way to do things, but ... why oh why, would they remove the 12v (cigarette) outlet? They replaced with a USB-A + USB-C outlet, that appear to have a standard 2.1 output. So that's fun, no fast/super fast charging, that I get through my 120w adapter, that can also charge my laptop. I can use the a/c outlet, but that just looks absolutely ugly. It also has a wireless charger which is sweet, but, it's standard, not fast. Like, you want to make these crazy high end technical vehicles, but you can't get basic crap right like modern cell phone charging?

#FirstWorldProblems and all, but super annoying.

Are you all still having to pay over MSRP on cars? My car should be arriving in the next month or so and I am not sure I really want to.

Depends. I did not because I had a Z plan.

When we went to buy my wife's Jeep ... they straight out a ~$7 to $10k COVID tax on EVERY vehicle ... but we skipped that due to having Affiliate Pricing through my job.

From what I've gathered, it depends on the dealership and the company. Some (I think Ford did?) mandates that the dealerships are not allowed to add the tax; whereas others, it's a free reign to do whatever they want.

Also, @Porksta - pending on who you got it from, you SHOULD be locked on the price from when you ordered. My truck that I ordered nearly a year ago, I was locked into the price/rate then vs. now - which is MUCH higher.

Jesus, I can't believe how many dealerships are doing this. When I got my Jeep, I got my federal tax incentive (7500) plus like another $4k off, so it was under MSRP. I'd definitely see adding that tax as a reason to avoid them in the future! We are in St. Louis so plenty to choose from and that is probably why.

How is the Truck?! Where's the pics?!

ah crap, forgot about this and now it's covered in snow. will get some pics once I get a few things situated ... getting a new bed cover, going hard top this time. been stuck for 3 days on far too many YT videos, forums, and reading. Think I finally picked one. That and I'm finally adding organizers inside to the middle console and glove box.

It's a beast, so kickass ... my 5th F-150 and this is by far the biggest/best upgrade with all the trucks I've had (2008, 2013, 2015, 2018, and now 2022).

I'm loving the blue leather!

This just cracks me up. The factory antennas with any vehicle is just ... absurd. Love the shorties.

Finally converting from a soft, to a hard cover. It's still tri-fold, and just absolutely amazing. The extra weight isn't ideal, but the look, durability, security, and simple on/off (no hinges/nuts/anything, just a string), totally worth it!

My only real issue with this hybrid ... the fact that when I backup, it beeps. Legit, I feel like a big dumb idiot. "LOOK AT ME, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO BACKUP A TRUCK!!!" It's super annoying ... but it's a federal law now from what I've read. Any EV's of any sort, have to do this because people are getting hit (because they can't hear the vehicle running).

What's odd is that my wives '23 Wrangler 4xe, which has a plug-in battery (meaning more electric miles than me), doesn't beep at all. So, not sure how this law is being upheld.

Sadly, you can't turn it off either, fun.
