The box of the standard PS5 has the 8K logo on it. Maybe they were just future proofing it.

Oh great a new PS5 Pro with support for games at 8k with performance modes at 30fps and quality at 20fps. The stutter is real.

Any of you check out the Twisted Metal series on Peacock? It's so damn corny, pretty sure it's intentional, but I couldn't watch anymore past the third episode. I've only played the first two games in the series, maybe I just don't remember the humor in them because I don't think I ever played them single player, IMO they were meant for multiplayer so that's the only time I'd play them.

The first two games were added to PS+ Premium this month, so I'll check them out in single player now. Kinda surprised they didn't have a new game ready to launch alongside the series debut, but maybe they wanna see if anyone bothers to watch it first.

Started up Final Fantasy 16. Played the beginning again since it's not that long. Only thing that's a little annoying is there are two sort of dodge buttons. Only one will let you dodge/counter, at least so far.

Well even with the LeBron James and Spiderman 2 Covers out, I went ahead and ordered the Grey Camo covers I have been wanting. The Spiderman 2 Covers look cool but ultimately I prefer the Camo ones for the long haul. Not sure if I will order the Spiderman 2 controller (if it comes back) as I have a camo one I have yet to open from last years Christmas sale on them. When I do play on PS5 seems I always need two to make it through a play session. Red, Blue & White rockin right now and soon the camo one.

Which controller is your go to color? Also with the interchangeable covers makes the limited edition systems not as exciting to grab which actually is nice for as expensive as the PS5 is currently.

I thought the PS4 Spiderman Console was one of the best and always wanted it and assumed I would get the next one if they made it but just dont have the urge. $600 is just to much, when you already have one.

How much is that one? It shows out of stock, that could be a deluxe Spiderman 2 controller based on the design and colors.

I had the Xbox Elite 1 but never used all the extras, that is my only experience with a deluxe controller.

$240. I don't really play any technical/multiplayer games on console so it's definitely overkill but I do still use the paddles when I'm feeling extra lazy

I prefer D-Brands Dark Plates. They get rid of the "popped collar" look and add a vent on the side. I have grown accustomed to the slimmer look and changing the LED strip to red is pretty cool.

I do like the Gray Camo though and really do think that Spiderman controller is pretty sick.

I see they are releasing a controller for people with disabilities, LOVE it. I have a client that would probably use this.

Oh, weird. They're not even bringing it to PS5 or PC, it's just PS4 and Switch? I guess this game will just never get a PC release. Maybe if they had remastered the first Red Dead Revolver and included it with this port I'd be more interested. I feel like a lot of people that enjoyed Red Dead Redemption probably never played Revolver, so it'd be a new experience and help justify that $50 price.

Its a great game, I got 100% 3 different times. I highly recommend it if you never played before. Do undead nightmare after the main story as it has major spoilers. I might do it again depending on which DLC trophies are added.

That would be great actually. All the bad trophies were MP related. I didn't care for the MP in this game or RD2, just not my thing. I did like the co-op missions and taking on hideouts with others, so that will be missed. The actual PvP wasn't that fun to me.

If this is a straight port I can see why they would just scrap the MP. It has been a mess for a long time because of hackers ruining the servers. Rockstar would reset the servers and you could play for a few days or even weeks then they would get messed up again. I guess given the way the game is coded and the older tech they couldn't do anything to stop it. Just reboot the server to temporarily fix it.

Its a great game, I wonder if they will at least update the controls to RD2 style. Since I just replayed it again last year I'll still probably wait until its $20 or cheaper. But its good enough I'd give it another playthrough.

The "definitive edition" GTA Trilogy was absolutely stellar on PS5/XSX so I'm sure a straight port of RDR to a 7 1/2 year old piece of hardware is going to be amazing. cool smile

Maybe Best to play it on Xbox Series X, They made a Xbox One Version GOTY Edition so it has the DLC etc. It was enhanced for the One X. Has to be cheap as old as it is but maybe going up a few bucks soon.

I bought a 19" Sony LCD tv from the 00's and it's really great for 7th gen. PS3 and 360. So I have my little collection of those games. If I wanted to play it I'd buy a nice mint copy for xbox 360 for like $10. If I did NOT have a 360 I would have SOME interest in this game. But my switch backlog is already filled to the brim with great games. No need.

Don't even have to pay full price for the digital version either ($20). You can go to gamestop and get a disc only version of the 360 release for $3 and pop that sucker in to unlock the digital download of the upscale/enhanced version.

Rockstar has no need to rush moving on from GTA 5:

As of June 2023, the game has shipped over 185 million copies worldwide across all platforms; more copies were sold in 2020 than any other year since the game's launch in 2013.

At least with the switch, I can say it's the "first time the game is officially portable" and that's big for me as a portable game lover. But I'm not getting RDR.

One thing I'll say bout RDR having played a bit of the first and not playing the second much. The first one had a much cooler main character and main love interest. I actually intend to play all of it some day. Be it on Xbox 360 or Switch, whatever.

Yea i read that about 64 version being included although I’m not sure I fully understand it lol, is it different in any specific way (other than not being upscaled)?

i’ve gone through a bunch of those retro FPS games over the past year or so,
Doom was kinda hard to get into at first because even compared to Quake it felt so old lol without jump or aim, but after a bit it was fine. Did several of those fanmade and semi-official expansion packs or mission packs or whatever, they were fun.
i like having a game like that to play alongside a more modern one, for quick sessions

Tried Serious Sam recently and that seems to scratch the same itch
Ion Fury was great too

I didn't find out until years later, but the N64 port of Quake 2 is almost a different game than the PC version. Very different level layouts and stuff. PS1 also had different levels than either version but I never played that one.

The Quake 2 remaster has a lot in it for $10. But I'm with Bill that I have a real hard time enjoying these games at this point. I can do it for one sitting the first night but never end up going back.

The videos I've seen look really good though and if I had fonder memories about Q2 or can enjoy retro stuff more I would jump in again. But even with an XSS next to my PS5 on the shelf I don't want to bother with it being "free" on GP.

I remember when Wolfenstein 3D came out and how amazed we were that it was possible. I think it was the original first person shooter. Doom then Quake were just refinements on that basic formula.

I had been a fan of the original Castle Wolfenstein games in the 80s, which are nothing like a FPS. But, they were cool games where you had to escape from a nazi castle by using disguises and such. I wish someone would remake those games in some modern way that is awesome.

That reminds me of Duke Nukem: The Manhattan Project.

After Duke Nukem 3D became the hot thing, I was disappointed because I really enjoyed the 2D platformer-shooter gameplay of Duke Nukum and Duke Nukem 2.

But then they released Manhattan Project and it was a"2.5D" blast

Wolfenstein and Doom were good. After that it got stale quick. Doom 2 was a let down felt like DLC, quake, Hexen, Thief all rote. At that point consoles were jumping ahead with stuff like SM64 OoT etc.

I do remember being blown away by Descent. That felt like the first truly great full 3D shooter. There was Warhawk on ps with a great sense of space and air combat too. But 3D moved fast after the fps craze.

I started up New Game+ in GOW (2018) and man, it's just such a damn good game. On PS5 it looks and runs really great, and I don't know if it has true 3D audio but with the sony headset it's direction for sure and sounds fantastic. Honestly this might be my #1 game of all time. I absolutely love everything about this (except for the optional fog section late in the game).

So far I've noticed that NG+ adds some new collectibles, equipment, new materials to upgrade said equipment, and remixes some enemies. And you can skip cutscenes.

I think developers dont know what to do with the dualsense, or maybe they just dont care. Havent played a game that uses it in an interesting fashion except for Astros. Usually the just throw in a little "rumble" as a check-in-the-box or do something crapty with the triggers.

I.e. I just bought Everspace 2 (released yesterday) and it just hardens the L2 button (acceleration).

It can work decently well when implemented in racing games, but other than having a slightly more lifelike feel if you are using one for braking it won't do much.

I still wish they had just stuck with the design of the ps3 controller. And not added the dumb touch pad or replaced select and start with share and option and put them so close to the d pad and buttons that they are easy to hit on accident (which happened a number of times during the Street Fighter 6 tournament at Akaicon)

To be able to feel the difference between braking on the limit and locking your brakes up is helpful.

Too bad racing games as a genre is practically dead on consoles outside of Forza and Gran Turismo.

it's like the "HD rumble" for Switch. Or even 3D on Nintendo 3DS sure a few companies really do an outstanding job with it. But it never was or will be widely used unfortunately. That Astro's Play room demo game was fantastic. I want to see more. Would love if the company who made that made a full fledged 3D platformer game. I remember rumblings about that back then.

They did make a full Astro 3D platformer on PSVR. It's probably my favorite 3D platformer of all time. They'd be stupid to not make a follow up on PSVR2 at some point. In fact, if they do announce it I'll buy a PSVR2 that same day (if I don't already have one by then).

I've mostly only been playing my PS5 with the Sony 3D audio headset lately, and I am absolutely smitten after using it consistently. I like the XSX and GP for our family, but the Sony headset really is a game-changer for me and has shaped my wanting to play on PS5 more-so than anything else. Which surprises me because I always favor graphics.

I've had some nice tvs but the audio is never all that great. And soundbars have been nice but none of them has had the clarity, direction, and quality of the sony headset.

The adaptive triggers are ok, I like it sometimes but am not sure it needs to be carried over to the next gen.

I still prefer my Arctis Nova for PS5 and Series X. It seems to handle 3D audio just as well as Pulse but just sounds better overall, plus it does Xbox and Switch, PC, and simultaneous BT for calls or discord.

Same! I use it on my PC every day. I don't use it on my PS5 much but I really should. I used it for both Hellblade and Resident Evil Village and it's a pretty unreal experience. It really elevates those games to a whole new level. I think I may give it a shot with Tetris Effect which I've been meaning to replay.

New Like a Dragon game announced with a new story and gameplay trailer with a November release date. I’m happy to see Kiryu return and with the traditional beat ‘em up style gameplay the series is known for. I thought they were abandoning this gameplay style to favor the Yakuza 7 turn based system but it looks like they’re doing a bit of both and Infinite Wealth is going to remain turn based. Sweet.

They make some really high-end planar magnet headphones (like the $4500 LCD-5). They also make some of the highest-rated gaming headsets (like the Maxwell). The interesting thing is that it’s the PlayStation division that bought them, so I bet their gaming headsets are about to get a lot better.

It just feels kind of pointless. You can't play on a plane. Can't play in various places that won't have a wifi connection and there's going to be a lot of latency no matter what.

I'm still confused about that thing. I thought people were originally saying you have to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the console to use it, meaning you wouldn't be able to use it outside of your house?

edit: I guess not, that video does confirm you don't have to be on the same network. I'm still not sold on it though. I'd probably rather use that money towards a Steam Deck.

Weird that people on here still manage to turn the most innocuous statement with an obvious completely different usage of a word to white night and virtue signal.

If you actually understood the nuance of language you'd see you are actually being the bigoted one by equating being gay literally as a bad thing.

You can use Texan however you want honestly the predominantly liberal population of this site already does that kind of thing and I'm not so fragile I'd actually care.

If you understood the nuance of language you would know the difference between night and knight.

More and more about this device doesn't seem to make sense. Cool it's "only" $200 but there's way too many compromises, this is basically just a PS5 version of the Wii U that has a better range (and worse latency).

This is something we can agree on.

When I first read about this device, it reminded me of Wii U's much desired 'off screen' play which ended up not having nearly enough range to be useful to me. If I can't go in another room with it, what's the point?

I like the wii u for other reasons, but it was a big disappointment that I couldn't go from the living room to a bedroom in a relatively compact apartment.

Ya agreed. Huge buzz kill especially like playing on my bed is have to move the console into the bedroom. Big turnoff.

But this is streaming only so will the latency kill the pleasure too? I've had that issue with remote play

I'll wait to see Digital Foundry to test the latency. For me though I loved WiiU's off screen play. I remember loving ever second of NSMBU. Just playing on a small screen is something I enjoy. Guess I just enjoy portables.

So if this thing turns out working well, I now have something I can tackle my PS4 and PS5 backlog. I'm just more likely to play something if it's a device with a screen I can keep around me.

I've been playing Switch more this year, all of it using handheld mode. In the past, I always played Switch plugged into my big TV. So, I've been appreciating the benefits of handheld. There's less of a barrier from needing to turn the TV on, boot up, etc. Handhelds seem to pause/restart very easily (not sure if Portal will do this). I think I don't play PS5 as much because of this barrier feeling. Also, taking over the big TV just feels like it affects the whole house, whereas I can play handheld quietly by myself. I guess I play more often briefly to kill a little time these days, so handhelds are appealing for that. And, I think the Portal could be like that too.

Yes this pretty much nails it. I've been spoiled starting with DS and PSP. It's immediately continuing from where you left off. They all can do that, And I still play these systems. DS, Vita, PSP, Switch, 3DS. They said the Portal will be able to turn on and off the PS5. And we know the new systems have a pretty quick resume feature. So it might only be a slight step behind Switch.

WIth me I have my modern consoles hooked up to my 4K projector. So there is a HUGE wait compared to my Switch. I have been playing The Last of us II. But if I can stop and resume within like say 5 seconds. As opposed to 30-60 seconds turning on all my tech like my projector, AVR, and waiting for them to boot up. It would be a HUGE difference and I would probably start playing way more PS4 and PS5 games. As long as physical games inserted into PS5 work. Heck I'd probably sell some of my Xbox multiconsole games and instead buy copies for PS. Resident Evil, Spyro, Mortal Kombat, etc. . Because I'd favor playing on Portal.

The Portal is a neat idea but lack of streaming capability for PSN seems insanely short sighted. While I am interested, I'm hesitant as there will clearly be a second gen enabling this... Although maybe it will simply be a software update.

Also, the controller isn't modular? Can't replace components... Another miss.

Yeah exactly. I have my Vita and Ipad Mini plugged up near bed right now. Man if I had that I could have my "PS5" in bed. Heh heh. This is definitely a personal thing. Some people will think it's crap and say it won't sell, others will love the hell out of this thing. But it won't be universally liked, that's for sure.

$200 is an attractive price for me. As I only need this for PS5 on a small screen. I have no use for a PC handheld. I already have small handhelds for emulation and a micro PC for old PC games. So this being at a tempting price, is good for it being used strictly for one thing.

It really sounds like they’ve attempted to bare bones the guts to get the best screen and gamepad possible. I’m expecting this will be impressive feeling and looking as well as very lightweight

Honestly the Logitech g cloud streaming handheld is probably the most impressive hardware at price point I’ve used. That thing feels great, is very light and has tight controls. If they can match this feel with flawless connectivity with ps5 it’s a buy for me.

Do you think think this will work with mobile hotspots? Hotspots are supposed to mimic wifi as far as I know, and I have unimited data mobile hotpot I use at work. Man if I can play my PS5 at work, even with a little latency, that would be friggen amazing. I just imagine playing Avatar Frontiers of Pandora on my PSP while at work this Winter.

Since the Portal only streams, it likely will not need a fan and thus it will be silent. Also, it shouldn't need as much power and thus could have a long battery life. I think these 2 things could help distinguish it from a Steam Deck.

it does have to power the dualsense rumble, which is important for me, so that will knock it down a peg. I'm good with 3.5hr battery life at the low end, I just want it to work great for what I want it to do, and feel good playing.

Steam Deck basically just streams the Ps5 as well with Chiaki4deck. I'd say I can probably get 4-5 hours but I almost never play till it dies

Yeah ever since like way back to GBA I never play til the thing dies. I tend to play for a half hour or so and then plug it back it to give it a little more charge. That's been my habbit for the last 2 decades. So I'll be fine with battery life.

The big thing will be, getting a closer look at gameplay on the screen, how bad is the latency, how quick is the on/off, wake up PS5, sleep mode/hibernate. And can I play it with a mobile hotspot. If I get good news on mostly everything, I'll be excited to give this thing a go.

I haven't looked too deep into it yet given the insanity of the past week, but why is it that you can't stream PSN games?

I don't thing Sony has said why, but to be clear, what they said was:
"Games that require a VR headset (PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2) or additional peripherals (other than a DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge wireless controller) are not compatible. Games that must be streamed on PS5 using a PS Plus Premium membership are not compatible."via https://blog.playsta...

In other words, you can't re-stream to the Portal games that stream to the ps5; only non-VR games that play local on the PS5 are supported. That's what I consider PS Now games, though I guess they don't call them that anymore. I've never actually played a game like that (sort of Stadia-like).

Saying, "PSN Games" may mean different things to people. From my perspective, I only play games I download off of PSN (PlayStation Network) and those are all supported (except VR) as far as I know.

Fair enough, if we can download the games and then stream, that's decent. Just with paying for their extra subscription tiers and access to on demand streaming, this is like the perfect companion device to help push subscriptions! Seems crazy not to have it.

Regardless, man, I want one right now. I'm gonna be in the NICU for the next 3 days (or more). May just grab the Switch for now. Gonna be a long week...

I don't really know what Sony is trying to do with the portal. What is the demographic this fits?

I think it's just to be the same price as the switch lite on the shelf, and have parity with MS and their cloud gaming stuff. I can only imagine how many parents are going to buy it for their kids this Christmas thinking it's a portable PS5 not understanding the fine print. Instead it'll be "neat, now you need to spend $500 so that I can use this".

It seems like they’re pretty much slow killing all unofficial ps plus and remote play apps through updates- seems to be in high demand on most discussion boards for portable devices. I’d guess they’re trying to corner this market and get more exclusivity on how their stuff streams. Maybe control it like Apple does their stuff? If you want your vision / optimal experience for your products you need to control all the variables. Most current gen peripherals they release get poo pooed on- but are commercially successful.

no extra hoops is the thing. Plus it's an elongated Dual Sense so you can get the enhanced feedback and resistive triggers for the games that use it. I like the idea of a $500 android or PC handheld that can do both Xbox and PS5, as well as play PC games. But I'd rather have something like the Portal that is designed specifically for something, thus making it simpler, and quicker.

Simply because all of my other gaming needs are met by other devices.

I think Sony is likely looking into returning to more proprietary business model. The recent disasters on pc front which they were reluctant to do in the first place didn’t help. They own the tech to create all the tech in house etc. got the new Sony connect on the way.

I'm excited about the playstation portal because of how it can turn on and off your PS5 almost as if you pushed the PS button on your dualsense controller. So imagine being away from home, or heck even just in another room on the other side of the house. You pick up your PS Portal and hold the PS button for a sec and it's like you have your PS5 right there with you.

This is especially cool if you still like physical games. My PS4 and PS5 collection I will now consider a portable games collection, as long as this thing works well. I'm thinking of selling my xbox versions and buying PS4 versions of a handful of games I haven't beaten yet. Because I'd much rather play on something like the PS Portal.

I’ve used remote play hundreds of miles from home and it’s good with great internet connections. Wifi is almost not an option for a solid experience. If this remote play was seamless with wifi it would be absolutely worth the cost. I’ve had power outages from storms, cats knocking out plugs etc kill my ability to use it for a week because ps5 powered off.

At this point, I've played all the games in the plus catalog that I was interested in. So, I'm unsure about continuing. I think I will do another year, but it may feel like a waste unless they add a lot of good stuff to it. I have stuff on my wishlist that I'm hoping will fall into the catalog...

PS+ Essential is, well, essential for me because my friend and I play so many co-op games online. We live on opposite ends of the country, so playing locally isn't an option. It comes down to math. A $20 increase is worth it if you get that much increase in games you play from the monthly or catalog that you would have bought. $20 doesn't buy as much game as it used to.

Game prices have gone up. It's $70 for a new A-list game now. For example, I'm interested in playing the Dead Space remake, but it came out at $70. It's on sale now for 30% off, but that is still $50. I'm thinking I'd pay maybe $20 for it or wait for it to be included in the catalog. I'm patient.

The randomness of what ends up as a free monthly PS Plus game or in the Plus Extra catalog is the tricky part of this. It's hard to know in advance if those games will be worth the yearly price of PS Plus. Hard to know if waiting for a game you want to play makes any sense. Waiting sucks, but paying $50+ for a game also sucks.

I don't think it's randomness. I think they specifically dangle quality releases every so often to boost subs, then go back to the lesser releases for a few months until a significant number start to lapse, then put out a few more good ones, etc.

Yeah, but there are (random) quality games that I have no interest in. I need a crystal ball to know which quality games are coming so I'll know whether to just buy them now (on sale) or wait.

If they did 12 months of quality games in genres I don't like, I'd regret subbing.

But yeah, if they're raising prices maybe they will also be announcing some quality games coming to the catalog.

I agree, There is still a lot of value in PS Plus and it's varying tiers.

My take:

I think as gamers we have had it pretty easy and I seem to think gamers have this opinion that inflation should not affect us. Well it does. The cost of running these server farms has gone up from rent and taxes assuming they rent... but one thing for sure is the cost of power to run these vast farms has also gone up. I am sure there are other costs that have been impacted by inflation. It sucks but these costs get passed down. Why people think Sony, MS and Nintendo are our friends I have no bloody clue. They are out to make money and it's that simple. They have share holders to appease... that's business! you don't have to like it, but that is the way it is. Prices going up 20 bux a year is nothing for the value you get. You can call it greed, but IMO that's just the entitlement speaking IMO. If you don't want to pay it then don't. Gaming is a privilege not a right. that maybe a hardnose take that will ruffle feathers but that's the cold hard truth as I see it. PS+ and GP are still very much great values, even with both seeing price increases over the last couple months.

It honestly depends on the type of gamer you are.

We don't all fall into the same space in this hobby. Some people love AAA games, some people prefer indies. Some people put thousands of hours into a single Call of Duty or Madden game, others just want tons of games that are easy to plat. Some people just want to play, no matter the condition of a game, others want to collect and will buy only mint complete copies, preferably sealed. Some people play a lot, others watch other people play a lot.

It's a big hobby and there is room for all of us. Whether gamepass/psn plus is a value for our circumstances or not.

I just like to sub temporarily to game pass for 1-3 months, beat a couple of games they have on there over time then let my sub run out. I also wait a long time now to buy new games. I don’t buy them at launch almost never now since they mostly drop in price a few months after release there’s just no reason to rush to buy a say $60-$70 title anymore. Unless you’re one of those rare folks who is all caught up with their backlog and thirsty for some more. If so, the more power to ya!

PS Portal up for pre-order: https://direct.plays...

Releases Nov 15th

I snagged it.

Does PS Direct allow for returns? Would prefer to buy elsewhere just in case.

They will send a reminder before shipping and historically you could always cancel then. I’ve done this a few times.

Triple Gold Good Trader 7 year anniversary at Game Trading Zone today!

I'm curious about this, but it looks like it's going to be available for pre-order from other retailers starting on September 29th, so I'm probably going to wait and see if I can use my GameStop trade credit to get one. I'm not sure that I really need one (and am actually pretty skeptical), but if I'm only using credit from trading in games I don't play anymore, it might be worth it for when I travel.

Surprised no one is talking about Volition being shut down. I guess Saints Row isn't as popular as it used to be? I never like Saints Row personally, but at one point it was very popular. I think instead of making a new SR game they should have rebooted Decent or Red Faction.

Over the past decade it felt like the Saints Row series just couldn't figure out what it wanted to be. The first three games were great (though #3 is where the series took a new direction) but the three that came after them (including last year's reboot), not so much.
The first three games had their funny moments, but then it felt like they wanted to focus a little too much on the comedy aspect and they didn't even get that part right a lot of the time.

A weird little coincidence that they shut down today and the Saints Row reboot will be one of the PS+ Essential games for September. They could have potentially lured in new fans.

PS Plus isn’t a good value for me anymore. I use the cloud saves more than anything else, and I can just as easily get a small USB stick and back my stuff up every so often. The PS Plus price increases are to be expected, but the amount they’re going up is a lot. It makes me want to invest in Game Pass more, as I use that way more and actually play online with Xbox.

My word. Such dramatics over this price increase. There was hardly this outrage when MS raised he price a couple months back.. it literally died a couple of days later. My news feed pops up today and there are 3 stories about the increase one f on Forbes saying "Time to cancel, Sony increases price of PS+ dramatically" I have stopped watching my typical YouTube channels for a week since they are just so damn dramatic... Another anti competitive move... Blah blah blah. It 's $20-$35 a year... That's hardly dramatic... If it was that increase but monthly ok, sure. It's like people don't understand inflation... Nope just greed, barf more greed that's all it is, these companies make enough money..barf...

I suppose I am just as bad complaining about people pissing and moaning over $20-$35 a friggen year.

Depending how things go I may just get an X again or finally build a damn PC and get GPU.

But I am with you on Portal, I want this. Its like they had people like me in mind. I don't have much time to game, but I have an hour at night but sometimes .... Ok most times I don't feel like going downstairs and firing up the PS5 and end up watching some doc on the universe, startalk or Netflix. I recently got hit my mesh network working and my PS5 hooked up to my router with some good old Cat6 cable. So I am ready.

I do some of my gaming with ps remote at night, in bed after wife asleep. Certain games are perfect for streaming- like Diablo iv. I won’t play difficult control scheme games like monster hunter etc that way - but maybe give a shot if this feels like a dual sense.

I just hope they don't somehow kill my Steam Deck way of remote play, which would mean they'd have to kill the official Remote Play app at the same time to force people to buy this thing. Honestly, anyone (me included) using Steam Deck/other means probably has no interest in this thing.

That doesn't seem likely to me. They can't be making much money off the Portal. It's more about getting people to buy/use their PS5; especially buying games for it. Sony should be happy you're using the Deck to play on PS5.

Are you using a gamepad on your steam deck? They’ve already killed support for the deck and other 3rd party pad systems through the official app. I’ve been using both a windows based ayaneo and android g cloud- neither of their built in controls are supported by the official app without a workaround like chiaki and a gamepad emulator. Maybe I need a steamdeck?

I have not seen a place to pre-order one in Canada, I think I have to wait until the Sept 29th. Oh well, probably won't have to pre-order I will just go to Walmart or Gamestop maybe the Source as those are really my only options. I am really not a handheld guy, but man I can't wait for this.

The other thing I thought about and is another reason why I don't play games when my wife and child are asleep is accountability. Sure I can play games down stairs, but I can tell you right now I would loose track of time and instead and play for WAY to long and instead of going up stairs I will just sleep on the couch. That was great for a much younger version of me... I am older now and couch sleeping hits differently now lol. T

The Portal will allow me to play in bed, my wife's gentle sleep kicks will remind me where I am raspberry and I can put it down on my night stand and go to bed. Wife is happy she does not have to deal with a bright TV and sound (I do keep it low at least)... and I am happy because I now found 1-2 hours a night that I can now better utilize and put towards a hobby I have been growing away from and get a chance to reconnect!

I'm kinda interested. Problem is, the places I'd want to use it (hotel, grandma's house after hours, office, that sorta thing) are not going to have the kind of Internet that the Portal would want, so basically it'd just be a tablet for home use or a really crapty remote experience, and I'm betting most of the reviews are just gonna do in house use cases and be like "it's fine". I'll wait for some real world use cases

So I bounced off of Ghost of Tsushima when I played it on PS4 slim. Revisiting it on PS5 is a more pleasant experience. It's much smoother, and the game finally clicked for me. Still in chapter one with the 4th stance unlocked and a few missions to go. Pretty fun so far, and I'm definitely looking forward to eventually unlocking that flame sword technique.

I'm guessing it won't. They'd have to release it on 2-3 discs, or just have an install disc and most of the game downloaded. Even if that was the case, I would STILL want a physical version. I can wait even if it is really good bc of the huge backlog.

It’s nothing like a Ubisoft game. Those games are filled with pointless bull where as most things in Tsushima were enjoyable. Not to mention the combat and story were both very well done

I don't understand why collecting materials is so tedious in Tsushima. None of the accessibility options allow you to make them more visible, and you have to scour every inch of every camp (including roofs and crawl spaces) to hopefully find everything. I could live with that if the stuff that I can't pick up didn't also glow. It makes you much more likely to pass over something you can pick up because you've walked by four of five things that you can't. If the crafting aspect of games could die a permanent death I would be very happy.

I think this is a game I would have enjoyed or at least given a chance had the Ubi formula in AssCreed Valhalla not completely broken me. I just can't do their games anymore. Booted Immortals up and it's literally just an AssCreed reskin that's so obviously inspired by Breath of the Wild. I've heard good things and I'm sure it all comes together nicely, but it's about as unoriginal as it gets. I've reached a point where all modern Ubisoft games are an easy pass.

Story and combat save this game. Both are so damn good! The open world is so bad, though. It's Sucker Punch's achilles heel. It's awful in Second Son and it's awful here too. It's just so repetitive and formulaic. It's everything I hate about modern open world game design.

Oh man, the new system update allows you to turn off that dang annoying beep when you first turn on the console. It adds other features too, but that's the one I'm most glad about for now. I wish they would have given that option on PS3 and PS4 as well, but it wasn't nearly as loud on those anyway.

Sony is also improving its expandable M.2 SSD storage support to an 8TB limit on drives. You’ll still need an M.2 SSD that meets the minimum requirements, but there are now more options for PS5 owners who want a lot more storage.

Starting with the PS4 1 TB is was too small. Its really annoying to have to constantly uninstall games to play another. If I am pretty sure I'll never play the game again I'll delete it after I finish, but anything else I like to keep installed. With a 1 TB drive you are lucky to have Destiny 2, Rocket League and COD installed at the same time. Those are games you would play on a regular basis and are really big downloads. It would be silly to delete them every time I wanted to play something different.

250GB was great on PS3 as games weren't that big.

The only time I've had issues with HDD space on the PS5 or XSX was when I installed some insanely giant game like COD:MW2 (which was like 250GB). I always have some 100GB things that I'm not actively playing but also didn't want to re-DL again so I try not to delete them. Having a 500GB external SSD (<$40) for both systems has worked just fine to store those kind of large installs I'm not currently playing.

I'm also someone who deletes games when I won't come back to it for 6m-1y. I don't want to dig through an install library, I usually focus on just a handful of things at a time so disk space hasn't been a real issue for me this gen.

I don't know how people are actively playing 1GB+ of games at the same time.

I have 133 digital games on my PS3 Slim, plus whatever update/dlc and save data goes along with them. I think it's a 320gb system and I have about 100gb free still.

The biggest difference of course is that disc games on PS3 still mostly ran from the disc instead of installing everything to the hard drive and just using the disc as a drm key.

I haven't had payment info with Sony since the massive PS3 breach all those years ago. They lost that privilege.

Unfortunately removing it now doesn't really do you any good if that is what they stole. The breach already happened, they already copied the data. Meaning if that is the info they got, they still have it. The only hope now if that is the info they took, is that Sony is actually was using encryption this time. Because back in 2011 they were not.

I have 2FA enabled, I'm going to change my password as well just in case. I don't even know how long I've had my payment info saved to the account because I don't normally do that, but it must have only been for the past 6-9 months or so when I realized it is so much easier to just buy games directly through the PlayStation App without even needing to use the console at all. I really wish Nintendo would allow that with their Switch app, because right now their app serves no real purpose.

Most likely they have credentials, not payment information. So I would suggest changing passwords, removing payment info and enabling 2FA

I'm thinking those ransomware dudes were bluffing. Sony hasn't responded at all, not even to take PSN servers offline which is what anyone would do the minute they realize they've been breached to stop the attackers from getting more data than they have. It would be nice if they just debunked it officially though.

Anyway, Saints Row: A Song of Ice & Dust DLC is on sale for $7.24 but when I go to its PlayStation Store page listing to purchase it, it says "You already own another edition.", though it still lets me add it to my cart. I have bought the two other DLC expansions for this game previously, but I hadn't bought this particular DLC yet, so why would it say that?

Mayb they hacked into a honeypot server that Sony set up as a red herring, and in all the patting themselves on the back they didn't notice they had stolen nothing of value.

I had no idea the new Saints Row even had DLC. Is it story DLC? I'd actually be up for jumping back into the game if it's story driven. It's not a great game or anything and it's the worst game in the series by a mile, but I had a really great time with it for some season. Just such a shame we'll never get another Volition game.

They released three DLC expansions for the game and depending on when you played it I'm not surprised you didn't know about it because the first didn't release until about 9 months after the game launched, which is way too long imo. What we got out of the reboot wasn't going to hold people's attention for that long, I suspect a lot would've beaten the game and then traded it in by then.

The first expansion was "The Heist & The Hazardous" and it added new weapons, vehicles, cosmetic stuff and 3 new missions to play. The missions are decent, but they're over before you know it.

Second expansion was "Doc Ketchum's Murder Circus" and I actually regret buying this one a little, because it's the only part of the game that can't be played in co-op. It's basically a wave shooter and if you've made a certain amount of progress in the story, you won't be able to use your character in this and will have to choose a premade contestant.

Third expansion is "A Song of Ice & Dust" which I just bought but haven't played yet. It released last month, a full year after the game's launch. It adds 5 new story missions (I think it revisits the LARP stuff from the base game's story) and new weapons and vehicles.

I don't know if I'd call this the worst in the series though. I'm at least committed to going for 100%, the only ones in the series I couldn't do that for were Saints Row IV and Gat Out of Hell. Maybe some day I will go back to them and do that, but I didn't enjoy them enough to do it when I originally played them.

The above Tweet says "PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe Members Get Access up to 100 Movies on the Sony Pictures Core App.", but unless I'm missing something the website and the e-mail they just sent out about it only mentions it being available to PlayStation Plus Premium members.

I went ahead and linked my PSN account to it, but I very likely won't use it much if at all. Just looking through the free movie section, I see a bunch of stuff that is also on Tubi for free, so why wouldn't I just use that? If I rent movies (which is very rare), I'll probably just stick to YouTube, unless this service has something they don't.

Sony gonna learn the hard way as the shadow of greed consumes them. I know I’m letting my PS+ run out in a month and likely not Re-upping for a good long while. If anything I’ll migrate back on over to game pass on Xbox eventually. At least there I can play some good new stuff day 1.

After Spider-man 2 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth there doesn't seem to be any big games announced for the future for the PS5 or am I missing them?

Just trying to think probably too soon for another God of War, Horizon or Ratchet game, Uncharted seems dead but maybe they revive it under another developer besides Naughty Dog, speaking of that Last of Us 3 could be a possibility. Ghost of Tsushima sequel would be awesome. These are all first party of course which FF 7 Rebirth isn't but it's console exclusive at least for now.

Uncharted series has sold 41 million copies, 2nd only to Gran Turismo for Sony game series (90 million). It seems hard to believe they're not going to ever make another game.

Edit: Seems Persona 6 will be at least a timed exclusive, can't wait for that.

Some of the main devs and writers who made GTA and RDR great have left Rockstar. So could we get a Resident Evil 5 or Metal Gear Survive situation? I think GTA 6 will be better than those games but I could see it still being a disappointment in comparison to past GTAs.

Michael Unsworth, a senior writer at Rockstar Games who has worked on some of the company’s biggest hits, appears to have left the famous developer after 16 years. He joins a growing list of veteran Rockstar employees who have departed the company over the last few years.

The other Rockstar vets who have already left
While it’s not uncommon for longtime employees to leave companies, even successful ones, it has become a bit of a trend for Rockstar Games in the last few years. In 2020, both Lazlow Jones and Dan Houser left the popular studio. Jones was a longtime producer and writer who had been with Rockstar for nearly 20 years and worked on every GTA game since GTA III. Houser was the co-founder of Rockstar Games and had been a part of the company since 1998, touching nearly every game the company had ever published or developed.

In 2016, a few years before those departures, longtime Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies left the company after he claimed he was pushed out and filed a lawsuit against Rockstar. The suit ended in 2019 with a confidential settlement.

That's a bit harsh. Both RDRs are fantastic and so was GTAV. Not to mention games like LA Noire, Max Payne, Bully etc. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm looking forward to the unveiling for GTA6. Maybe I don't follow gaming news closely enough, but I don't see a reason to outright boycott them. I'll just play the games they make that interest me and skip the ones that don't.
