Currently has a May 12 2023 release date. That's just over 4 months away. That's not so far, but there isn't that much known about it.
Here's a video that has the reveal trailer and other info that has so far been released.

Is it unusual for such an anticipated title that's only several months away to not have much known about it?
I don't usually follow games along their pre-release stages, so perhaps a lack of info is standard.
Personally, I'd rather a lack of info when it comes to games that I plan on playing. I don't care for spoilers, or to watch every trailer that comes out.
I'd have thought there'd be more out about it though. But again, I don't usually follow along with the progress of game development.
Definitely a game I'm looking forward to though.

Got my copy of the game and the fanny pack from Target. Mission accomplished. Still haven't booted the game yet past the "Nintendo presents" screen, but looking forward to it.

Got the gold wall scroll from Walmart. Can’t tell if it’s actually numbered, decent size but pretty useless to me. Sold on Mercari for $60 within a minute of me posting it lol.

I'm about 5 hours in as well. I second the comment about controls being difficult. I am sure I will get used to them, but early on, I'm finding them a bit frustrating. I feel like things are going a bit slower than expected, but I fully expect this to be a 100+ hour game for me.

GameStop is the worst.
I've recieved 2 of 3 collector editions and 0 of 5 controllers. All others have come through.

Loving the game so far, just not too pumped about the major lag I’m experiencing when using Ultrahand. I’m sure that’ll get patched soon enough though.

So you didnt preorder at Gamestop and got the Wood Plaque today?
I went in but was told preorder only even though online says different. I would have left but I did the trade in $50 bonus. Which was really 52.50 Pro, and the Monthly $5. So $13 more for Zelda goodness. I was the salty one.

I'm only missing one ability from the wheel, and I believe I'm attacking one of the "dungeons" when I mistook a landmark for a map tower. My own stupidity. My original plan was to attack towers and shrines before hitting the bosses. I guess we'll give this one a go with 4 hearts while I'm pretty much a 1 shot kill. Really hope there's a fast travel at the entrance.

Does this game let you just go and tackle things in any order you want, even allowing you to skip the game and go right for the end boss from the beginning, the way BotW did?

No, and you have to progress story to unlock necessary items.

I don't know how, you don't even have the glider after the "training" area. That said speed runs are going to be ridiculous in this game with the constructables.
