People all year - "Man, Nintendo doesn't have anything planned after Zelda and Pikmin. Just a whole bunch of nothing. They must be gearing up for the Switch 2."

Nintendo today - "Bam. GAMES dogES!"

If I have any MINOR complaints...

- No Metroid Prime 4 update STILL, would have loved to hear SOMETHING about anything related to Metroid
- I was expecting some sort of Tears of the Kingdom DLC announcement, but then again, TotK is MASSIVE
- Still nothing on the long rumored ports of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD

Other than that, this direct was awesome. I'm not interested in many of the games, but there is something for everyone.

I’m still a bit hesitant to play any of these new games on the old hardware and hold out for a Swirch successor. I mean it’s been almost 7 years. One would think in another year or so they’ll give us something at least maybe 20% better the hardware on the Switch. I mean can we at least get a new console to not run the new Zelda at below 30fps?

Not until the games stop selling so well.

They definitely brought it today! I can't help but wonder though if this means we're not as close to a Switch successor as we thought... Although, other than Mario Wonder, most of what we were shown today was either a remake, remaster, or a game that we've known about and has been in development for a while. So maybe they're filling up the Switch's final year with mostly remakes and stuff, while the big, brand new games are already being worked on for Switch 2.

If I have any MINOR complaints... - No Metroid Prime 4 update STILL, would have loved to hear SOMETHING about anything related to Metroid - I was expecting some sort of Tears of the Kingdom DLC announcement, but then again, TotK is MASSIVE - Still nothing on the long rumored ports of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD Other than that, this direct was awesome. Agree with all of this. I'd also add 3D Mario. I know they announced a new 2D Mario game, and it was unlikely they'd announce both a 2D Mario AND a 3D Mario, but still...it's going on 6 years since Mario Odyssey. If you look back at how far apart the 3D Mario games have been, 6 years is an unusually long gap (with the exception of 64 to Sunshine).

64 - 9/29/96
Sunshine - 8/26/02
Galaxy - 11/12/07
Galaxy 2 - 5/23/10
3D Land - 11/13/11
3D World - 11/22/13
Odyssey - 10/27/17

I'm confident we will get DLC for TotK, and I'm certainly in no hurry. That said, I was surprised to learn the other day that the DLC for BotW was actually announced before the game even released!

In the SMB Wonder trailer, is it just me or did Mario's voice sound different than usual? He almost sounded more high-pitched, like Mickey Mouse or something.

I'm disappointed in the multiplayer being local only. When they added online co-op to SM3DW and SMM2, I feel like the groundwork is already there and future games going forward would have it. I'm still buying it though and it was the highlight of the Direct for me. On one hand I hope it gets its own mini-Direct before release, but on the other hand, I feel like I don't need to know more, I will be buying it based on what was shown today alone.

Not huge on Pikmin 1 & 2 being $30 each (or $50 for both). I'll be skipping those unless they go on sale some day down the line, still got AEW Fight Forever and Pikmin 4 coming this summer, on top of still playing TOTK and planning on playing Fire Emblem GBA when it pops on NSO.

I'm not entirely sure how to explain it, and it's admittedly not the biggest issue in the world. But with the NSBM/"3D" games, the overworld maps just lacked personality. Just a fairly plain board with the levels pasted along the way, and in some of the games (the 3D games mainly) free-walking across the board made it feel like there was no real sense of direction. It just didn't hit the way the maps in SMB3/SMW did, even with the levels only represented by boxes or circles on a linear path. Maybe it's just the pixel art and flat, cartoony nature of the graphics for those maps that I miss. That said, I re-watched the Wonder trailer and my initial reaction isn't entirely valid. The tiny clip of the map we got is actually a lot more detailed and generally "fun" looking than I originally gave it credit for. I missed a lot of the personality I suppose, so I take back that initial criticism. My bad there.
Yeah, I was kinda surprised, because I thought the map looked more detailed and nicer than any previous world map. My favorite was the 3D World map since you could actually move around and explore, instead of being stuck to pre-defined paths. Unfortunately, they didn't do much with it. I kinda wish Wonder was going to have an open world map like that, but have secrets hidden though out it.

If you dig it, more power to you, but (to sound like a broken record using my primary examples) there's totally a notable difference between the tightness of the controls when it comes to games like SMB3 or SMW vs the NSMB series. Having played them all around the same time as each other a bunch of times, it's very noticeable to me. I don't necessarily need the ENTIRE other end of the spectrum, I just want them to feel solid like SMB3/SMW. I could maneuver and control perfectly fine without the added floatiness, and in some cases even better because having to be a bit more precise trains one to control with a higher focus instead of inadvertently relying on the added "float" that sometimes messes up the rhythm of levels. At least that's how it feels to me, like there's a slight lack of gravity in the NSMB games compared to the classics.
Yeah, I notice the differences, I just don't think they're bad. Even comparing SMB3 and SMW, the controls were different, but I like both. I just don't think the NSMB controls are bad, that's all, but I do recognize that they're different. I think playing so much Mario Maker got me really used to them, because the controls in that game are closest to that of NSMBU.

I am kinda curious now though. The last time I played them really close together was probably around 2018. The next time me and the kids are going to play NSMB, I may throw on SMB3 and SMW first for a few minutes each, and see what I think of them now.

That price is in line with Metroid Prime Remastered. They didn't really say if this was remastered in the same way, but they did say HD. Seeing as how each of them sell for over $50 on GameCube, I'll gladly pay $50 for both with the added convenience of HD graphics on my Switch on my big TV.

Edit - I just read that they are doing a physical release in September. I REALLY don't like that. MP was digital first for two weeks. This is 3 months. That's crazy. I expect this to become a thing for Nintendo in the future. I said something similar when TotK was leaked a week early and posted all over the internet. Nintendo is going to start experimenting with digital first or digital only releases.

They confounding our acronyms. SMW, NSMBW, SMBW... arg!

Seriously though, that game seems like someone took NSMBW, mixed it with Yoshi's Island, then slammed some SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic) in. I hope they didn't mess with the difficulty much and Paper Mario the series.

Overall a lot in the direct, not a ton for me. Doing a great job of doing fan service to older N gamers imo, though not for free as expected. Many old rumors confirmed here.

If they get all 3 Arkham games on cart I'll probably eventually pick that up. Warioware might be fun with the kids at a discount. Glad to see a Sparks of Hope demo, same for Pikmin 4. Been on the fence at $30 for Rabbids. Wonder will likely be my second voucher game, but I will need to see and hear more. That is too weird to not think they jacked with the difficulty one way or another. On a side note, Super Mario Maker 3 in a few years?

Edit: That Ganondorf Amiibo looked sweet, though I hate the clear supports. Urbosa knows what I'm talking about.

They need to make SMB Wonder harder than the recent batch of Mario games. I want to get stuck on a few levels at least a couple times. I don’t want it to be another 1-Up fest.

Pikmin 4 Looks HUGE! Will also pick up the physical Pikmin 1 & 2, still have my GC copies never picked them up on Wii so maybe time to let them go as I don't keep a GC hooked up. I know I read HD but the screenshots look like GC to me.

Batman and MGS collections are nice for switch fans that want them on the go. I am not gonna get sucked into it as I picked up a few other collections and got rid of them soon after.

Super Mario Bros Wonder, for sure going to pick this up day one maybe even digital as the wife is asking to play it today raspberry

Super Mario RPG and Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, I am not sure yet both are excellent and glad a New generation will enjoy them but I think N already got my money on those so doubt I pick those up, maybe later.

I dunno, I thought that was Wii U followed by 3d World. The DS game was meh. The Wii game was more of the same sans the last couple worlds which were fun. The 3ds game was a 1-up snooze-fest. The Wii U game was a worthy 2d Mario akin to the original 4 imo. 3d World expanded upon that.

I don't think any new Mario from Nintendo will go Mario Maker expert level... let alone super expert. That's why they gave us Maker. I bet Wonder is easier than NSMBU, akin to 98% of Odyssey.

so true. But this time, and only this time, I'll forgive them since they gave us Super Mario RPG Remake and a massive showing of games.

Speaking of Metroid Prime 4. I really think it's going to be a Switch 2.0 launch game (or launch window) with beautiful graphics. I just started playing Metroid Prime Remastered on my switch OLED and was surprised how good it looks. The lighting and textures look really good. I get chills thinking how good Metroid Prime 4 will look on Switch 2.

Same. I also feel like they’re saving MP4 as a launch title for the next Switch. Along with perhaps a new 3D Mario title.
