Nah, not unbeatable. I don't like the 30fps versions, frankly, those extra frames feel like a world of extra reaction time. Plenty of close swings where if I was a ms off on my inputs I would have been bumped off the road, the Genesis version was pissing me off so bad. And it still took me at least two hours before my first clear, even on the good Switch version.

I need to see where I'm at on playtime with Outrun, I'd imagine it's a good handful of hours at this point. Easily more than Smash.

... dude of course it's going to be random. It's a racing game. There's an element of randomness AND the game will try to get in your way. At least it's not like it's boomeranging other racers ahead of you.

But it's sets you up for failure with rng and the strick time limit with no way to get more time. Also the collision detection is just plain awful. There were many times I appear to go through cars, but I try the same move and I wreck. It's so inconsistent that it makes me second guess if I can fit the car in the gap.

The game isn't even that hard to get a clean run, I've done many. My lowest score in the top 20 is 7.5 million. No wrecking isn't thenough biggest issue, it's the traffic blocking you. So you have to just keep the pedal down and pray that car don't change lanes or a car don't appear on that tight turn.

It can work in your favor too, I've cut off plenty of vehicles that by all rights should have collided (Ages ver)

You get more time when you get to the next stage. It's very possible to gain time especially on stage 2/3. I was doing that on my better runs. Whenever I didn't crash at all, I was getting clears. Pretty sure some of my clears were with 1 crash as well. The trick is knowing how much you can afford to slowdown. I didn't have nearly the same issues with traffic. It could be annoying at times but it was never enough to cost me a run.

I feel like you get a flat 15 second buffer for the entire 5 stages assuming all stages can be cleared in 60 seconds. But I'm not so sure that is true. I've tried many routes to see if I can save time, all seem about the same. Right, right is my new favorite, but never made time to see what stage 4 was like. Right, left, right was my previous favoritem route. But at that route the last right was brutal because of the last blind turn up hill. Never had a chance to try left on that route.

Clean first stage is like 60 seconds, if you let off at all its likely 62-63 seconds. Second stage usually 63-65 seconds. 3rd stage is brutal if you want a fast time, usually around 68-70 seconds driving cautious without any leap of faith moves. And there you go, the 15 second buffer is out and game over with a clean run. When I get to the 4th stage it's when I hit 59 seconds first stage.

Another horrible exclusion is there is no way to reset the game. I'd play allot more if I could just reset when the first stage is too slow. Instead I just sit there forand wait for it to end the race.

You can generally make a run work with 2 crashes as long as the path you're on doesn't require really long periods of slowdown (supertight turns), a couple bumper bumps and tight turn slowdowns are totally fine, you'll generally slide in with like, eight seconds to spare even with one crash. Problem is a crash takes about eight seconds out of your checkpoint buffer and you've only got about sixteen or so seconds of wiggle room to work with overall, 20 at the maximum. You can start to very slowly make time by hitting max speed and not slowing down, but slowing down will bleed you for time several times faster than you make at max speed.

For me, the 2nd stage was the best chance to gain time. It has most of the easiness of the first stage but you hit it going full speed. On my best runs I had about 75-80 seconds going into stage 4 iirc.

As for the last part, that's the pitfall of playing via Yakuza unfortunately. Emulation on your own is a quick restart and most consoles have fast soft resets (certainly better than finishing out 40 seconds or so when it becomes impossible to win).

This seems correct. Pretty sure I had a clear or two with two crashes. But once I got into the game I wasn't crashing at all and was hitting turns fairly optimally. Though of course by stage 4/5 you absolutely have to massively slow down to hit some of the turns.

The nice thing in the Ages (not sure if this is across the board) is that once you hit max speed, even turning won't slow you down; you maintain that max speed unless you let off the gas or hit the brakes (or hit something). So if you've got a good line and have the pathing mapped out in your head you can easily make up a visible 2-3 seconds per stage, assuming there aren't any super tight turns. The MAJORITY of the turns in the game just need you to lead into the turn right at the opposite side... but there's generally no less than 2 exceptions to that, with the paths I've run so far. Which generally end A-C. Almost finished an All-Right once.

Pretty sure I slowed down on turns w/o letting off the gas at all. I'll just have to check this tonight.

At least on Ages on Switch, I'll lean into the D-pad during turns and it's just like "183mph!" all the way. I think you might be able to see that on one of my clears I uploaded to Youtube?

It can interfere with the acceleration process but once I was at max, it just stayed.

Over the last year I've been slowly picking up every 360/ps3/ps4 Ben 10 game so I can play through them all in order. Not sure I'll play the racing games, but I'll at least try them to see if I like them.

Vilgax Attacks was the first game I ever got paid to work on, was such a stereotypically hardcore crunch development. Multiple all nighters, and a 6 month development cycle. Crazy memories working on that one
