Just started. Not a huge fan of the camera or controls. Everything just feels very... Jumpy.

A bit bummed it's not more Souls-ish, but I'm excited for it. Sorry DMC 5, on the shelf you go!

Anyone else playing?

I played for just over an hour last night. I'm not liking it so far.

Is it as difficult as everyone says? Love Samurai stuff but don't have the patience for super hard games.

I have mixed feelings about it. You essentially have to be good at timed parrying or you won't make it very far. This applies to me; I'm terrible at it.

Just saw this thread. Posted this in the PS4 thread but ya know, relevency:

Sekiro is fudging sick but so damn unforgiving - even with an effing resurrection gimmick. Haven't noticed any major slowdowns or freezes but I might just not be in tune to frame rate drops tbh

Literally still on the first section and have been playing pretty much all day haha. The parry system takes some getting used to but the battles can get so fudging intense and feel really epic in nature. When you get a guy to go one-on-one away from his comrades, and you guys just clang steel for a minute straight, it's so rewarding to see that red dot and drive your sword through his chest.

Getting real frustrated at how often I lose but I guess that's part of it.

I haven't gotten far (first place after tutorial) but I like it. Good strategy I found early is jumping murder insta-kills. The parrying isn't that different than other games that use the same mechanic, and there is that guy in the beginning to practice on. It's Soulsbourne mixed with the ability to jump. Liking it more than Nioh, which I didn't get that far in. Being a Soulsbourne fan doesn't help my ability to not like it, either...

@philliesphan Difficulty is always subjective, so far it seems more forgiving, and most reviews have said the same.

Reading other forums as well about this game and it has to be one of the more divisive big games in awhile.

Getting good scores. Did people really not expect Soulsborne difficulty?

Huge souls borne guy. I've platinumed everything I can get my hands on in this genre. Played Sekiro for a little last night. I'm not sure why all the souls fans are so defensive- this game literally is a souls title with a little less character customization, less RPG elements and a jump button.

That being said- mechanics are fun, really like messing around with the fight instructor dude and practicing the moves- the upgrades so far are very meh- excepting the one that allows for health recovery with kill moves- very underwhelming so far. The hit boxes in oversized enemies is laughable- they can grab you if the wind from their swipe reaches you.

We'll see how it goes. Definitely will platinum this if I can.

So far from what I am seeing a lot of the dislike for the game is most likely due to not playing it properly but I need to get my hands on the game myself for full analysis.

You can definitely skip big parts of it by hiding in high places etc. but you'll miss out on upgrades that way. Some of the fights feel like a rhythm game- there's an algorithm of actions you should take based on the enemies attack etc. It's really satisfying once you get in the groove.

Unfortunately- this one doesn't mix well with beer.

Yah I was thinkin maybe it was the whiskey I consumed last night that made it so I can't beat the red-eyed ogre at the end of the first section. But nope, it's just really really fudging hard.

The issue with that boss battle is that he has ample opportunity to wreck you even if you hit the dodge button in time, it's like he only needs to feel a thread of your clothes and can then whip you around. Kind of obnoxious.

BUT I got the flame-thrower prosthetic upgrade, and if you eavesdrop on the two guards right before that boss you learn that he fears fire. So using that, I was able to get one kill-hit on him before he beat me for the 65th time at least.

Alright now I really am starting to get frustrated enough that it could lower my opinion on the game.

Still fighting this fudging ogre. Firstly, apparently, if you hit him with your flame-thrower twice it's supposed to set him on fire for a bit. That doesn't work all the time for some reason, so it seems decently random.

But my major issue is that it gives you a prompt to hit your "dodge" move when he's coming to grab you. So many times I've hit it on time, to the point that I'm actively IN the dodge animation, feet next to where he was aiming and yet.... he still somehow grabs me. I'm OUT of the way because I hit the button ON TIME like the game wants you to... but he still gets me and stomps me out.

That's not just a "hard game's hard" situation, that's fudging cheap. Does anyone know if the update fixes that or if that's legit just how the bosses are in this game? Because I could definitely be selling this sooner than later if that's the case.

The running lunge dive move is treated like a sweep. You got to jump jump it.

Try throwing oil on him then the fire thing or fire him two times to get the DoT.

If I'm remembering correctly, they introduce the "O" button "dodge" specifically because they introduce this dude and his lunge attack. I'll give the double-jump a go but they probably should have avoided introducing a new mechanic to the player during a boss battle specifically for that boss' primary attack if a mechanic we've already known is the actual way to avoid it. Fudging game.

Ok my bad it wasn't the lunge that was getting me, it was just the "Grab and slam" that was getting me. Pretty sure THAT's the move they intro the dodge for and that is indeed the move that he keeps catching me out of animation from.
