Ys IX looks interesting to me even though I hated Ys VIII. I guess I never learn. But the environment in it looks cool and reminds me of the hub world from Sonic 06. On top of that exploration and platforming seem to actually play a role in it, so it really is like Sonic 06. :p
Something tells me 06 has better combat. But maybe the Switch OS button remapping features will make it better than Ys VIII at least. The camera can barely keep up when the gameplay is so fast. This wasn't really an issue in the older top down perspective Ys games.

My backlog:

Control PS5
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 (when that version comes out)
Mario 3D World Switch

Other than that I am good to go, fudge having like 60 games man that would drive me crazy.

RE: third party joycons
Thanks for the info. yes I don't like how they don't appear to be in the track but if they work fine that's all I would care about.

PS they also came with 2 of those little gaming repair screwdrivers and some replacement joysticks which I wasn't expecting. Been wanting to snag some new screwdrivers for a while.
That's a really nice deal then. I've been buying replacement joysticks for about $7 each, and my screwdriver I think I paid about $10 for.

Speaking of backlogs, I just started Paper Mario Origami King. So far, so good. I just can't stand the annoying hand holding. You do the battle tutorial (which is ridiculous). Then you play for about 10 minutes without a battle. When you get to the next battle, they make you do the battle tutorial again. The annoying helper NPC tells you it's been a while so she'll refresh your memory. Absolutely ridiculous.

It's a first party Nintendo game aimed towards kids. Of course it's gonna hold your hand.

Yeah Nintendo sometimes goes a little overboard with that crap in the beginning of their games. Way too much text explaining things like you're a dummy.

It was my least favorite Paper Mario (yes I am one of those that really liked Sticker Star). For one, there is such a small amount of stickers. At least in Sticker Star you had dozens of these unique super attacks. And I also didn't like that female origami sidekick. She would go off on these boring obvious tangents all the time. The writing was just not good, and I did not feel that Nintendo Magic like I do in most of their games.

They dropped the ball with Origami King. I mean she doesn't stop noticing things right in front of you or telling you exactly where to go. And she goes off on these just boring sappy tangents about how you are all helping me, and fighting together. Ugh.

I like Origami King. I find it charming and clever and mostly well-written.

I don't like how weapons break and you gotta keep rebuying (or finding) more. I guess that's just Nintendo's new favorite thing (see also Zelda: BOTW, Animal Crossing, Mario Tennis Aces...)

Yeah, what's the deal with that? Now every Nintendo game has weapons/tools that break forever.

My roommate got a switch. I haven't played it in about 8 months. Anything amazing come out after Animal Crossing that you guys would recommend?

Yes, but I think it's really hard for kids. It's actually my son's game (he's 8), but he quit before the first boss. The battles are more like puzzles than RPG battles. Basically, if you solve the puzzle, the battle is easy enough to win without getting hit. But if you don't solve the puzzle, you can lose very quickly because you get hit by 5+ enemies at a time.

I know this isn't a 1st party game, but Nintendo has been getting better. Look at BotW. I mean, there is no hand holding in that game at all. They just drop you off in a big world and let you run free. You learn from dying in that game. This game is the exact opposite. This helper character is like a step backwards to the sword in Skyward Sword (remember how obnoxious she was?). It's made even worse by the fact that you can't skip her dialogue or even make the text appear faster.

I'm at the desert temple and I'm enjoying the game. I definitely like it more than Sticker Star. Olivia definitely talks too much, though.

Less than 5 mins if you're fast at folding

I'm about 20 hours into it and I'm going after the 4th streamer. (Out of 5.)

So you like the game? I'm thinking about making a trade for it but I'm worried that the battles will get boring since no exp.

Just started the first Banner Saga. gosh darn, I love the animation in this game. Also digging how it seems choices matter, and the branching dialogue is neat. Big fan of the battle style too. Turn-based strategy RPG style is always sorta hit-or-miss for me but I dig how it's pulled off in Banner Saga.

Loving what little bit of the story I've seen so far, looking forward to plowing through this one.

That's why I got bored with Sticker Star. (Didn't play Color Splash enough to have an opinion on that one.) I do avoid battles when I can in Origami King, but I haven't gotten bored when I have to fight. Since they're basically puzzles as bonham2 said, they usually keep me engaged. And the boss battles are pretty interesting in how they utilize the ring. They do tend to drag on a little longer than I'd like.

Anyway, it's another polarizing Paper Mario game, so I can't guarantee that you would like it because I do.
