Thought about making a thread about this issue myself. Offers and all messages for it still go through.

Because there are no "blocks". There are only filters. If you filter a user you will not see their posts in the forums. But this feature does not extend to the severity of blocking messages/offers.

I recall there being a discussion about whether the user filter should block offer/trade messages and perhaps even block offers from being created or countered. It was many years ago, perhaps when the user filter was first created.

At the time, it seemed like most people still wanted to trade with people who they didn't want to see forum posts and PMs from. There seemed to be a general sentiment that blocking trading was at odds with the nature of the site. Also, a concern that the block could be abused in various ways (e.g. after a trade was pended or when there's a dispute). Finally, if there was a member that was behaving such that others wanted to block their offers, perhaps the focus should be on that user's behavior and not on providing tools to block them.

And that may be what's going on here. I've gotten a couple private complaints about a particular member that has been sending seemingly random/harassing offers (for stuff the other trader expressed no interest in or doesn't even have the console for, etc.) And, is being persistent with counter-offers. Just last night I started to realize it may be impacting a lot of people on the site as the member doing it has been sending out 5x more offers than anyone else over the last month (for example, it may go back further than that). So, I was going to talk to this member.

I would also love the option to "totally" block people. First time I got an offer from a filtered user I wondered what the filter actually did. lol.

The weird thing is, I get that he wants to trade or sell, but when I looked at his list and changed the trade offer to include something I actually have a mild interest in (Tekken 6, not exactly the world's most sought after game, and Greatest Hits at that, which causes hives, enlarged prostate, cancer, and all manner of STDs in the serious collector types), he has either declined or counter-offered and switched for something else I have zero interest in. He's done this 3 or 4 times.

For example:

add:
benstylus gets: Tamagotchi: Connection: Corner Shop (Nintendo DS) [Condition: excellent; Box: no; Manual: no]
delete:
benstylus gets: Tekken 6 (PlayStation 3) [Condition: very good; Box: yes; Manual: yes; Greatest Hits red case]

Yes they both start with T, but I can't think of two games much further apart in terms of their intended audience.

On another previous offer several days before that one, he wrote:

I am really just looking to move my ps2 and GameCube stuff
I don't necessarily want your stuff so much as it's better to have games for a platform I do have
If you can figure out something, big or small, for my ps2 and gamecube stuff

The irony in his "I don't want your stuff" comment is not lost on me.

For the record, I'm not against him sending offers, but I am against offers for random unwanted stuff, and apparently that he's been spamming them to everyone.

I do hope the message from bill will sort him out. He seems honest enough, just a little over-eager, and doesn't quite understand that most folks are looking to trade for things they actually want or things that are in somewhat high demand so they can trade/sell for what they really want i.e. not a disc-only copy of Shrek 2 on PS2 (that kind of stuff you're just better off just binning).

@bill Those reasons do make sense. One time I did even pend with someone I filtered years ago.

@benstylus someone got upset when I suggested binning/giving away games to get rid of them. I don't remember if it was nt22 or someone else but I was speaking from experience it's the only way to actually get rid of some games. Your example messages make me glad I didn't try to work something out with him. His shotgun style seems to be working with some people but those examples are frustrating.

And as mentioned he seems to be a good trader. So I hope he doesn't leave, but I would like to stop getting random offers..

Yeah, add me to the "me too" group with him. Very odd fellow. I was very specific that I'm only interested in items on my Wanted list (which I admit is very small and limited) -- and nothing else -- and he kept sending me offers for things that I had absolutely no interest in. I had to just start ignoring him.

Same here as well. I've asked him numerous times to stop sending me random crap offers but it never seems to stick.

I'm another person he's peppered with offers and they've been all over the place. Most are completely random in terms of what junk he wants to just send to me. I got the feeling that he was focused on earning his gold star but has already earned it, so I'm not sure anymore, but his offers have slowed a bit.

Yeah. He seems nice enough but also sent me some pretty random stuff like this unprompted exchange:

nt22: Let me know What you want
nt22: You don't have any lists lmk
Bleed_DukeBlue: I think you might have the wrong person. I'm not sure what this is in reference
to.
nt22: Lol I was trying to trade but you have no lists What are you interested in my list
Bleed_DukeBlue: Oh gotcha. Thanks, but I don' t see anything on your list that I need.

It wasn't a big deal, but I was confused, because it was framed like we had previously been in contact about trading for awhile.

you don't want random games for systems you don't even own? I guess I'm lucky and haven't gotten an offer from him. I just ignored his last message to me about blank PS2 cases.
