Ah man. This was a great show. Why do the good Superhero shows not last between 2-3 seasons. :(

I used to think viewership must be low, but now I'm starting to think these companies either only want to keep shows that are insanely popular (e.g. Stranger Things) or critically acclaimed (e.g. Transparent) to build their brand.

My other thought is that it's a bit more insidious than this. Cast and crew members often agree to take a bit of a lower salary for the earlier seasons of a show, hoping it will grow in popularity and net them more money later on. I wonder if many of these streaming services are cancelling moderately successful shows to avoid this hike. Plus, it increases viewership by always having new and different shows to bring people in. "Sure we got rid of our loyal customer's favorite series, but this new series with this loveable actor ought to net us 100k more subs." That type of thing.

This destroyed me yesterday. What a load of bullcrap.

"Destiny demands that my compatriots and I now seek a new home for this series."

There is hope. Maybe Netflix will grab it since it lost a bunch of superhero stuff because of Disney. Would be nice.

It is all about money. Cost versus income. What does the show cost them versus how much they can charge for the advertising space. Shows that require new sets and special effects each week are much more costly than shows that stay within a limited number of sets.

Today, total viewership carries much less weight than viewership within a particular demographic. Had demographics been used in the 1960s, the original Star Trek series would have lasted several more seasons. ST:TOS was cancelled after only 3 seasons because it was expensive to produce and had a much lower total viewership than many shows on the air at the time. It was only later when demographics were examined that the network discovered that most of ST:TOS's viewers were in the demographic of younger, more affluent viewers that the networks wanted to reach most. By contrast, The Lawrence Welk Show had a large audience, but those viewers were older people who had already bought their homes, cars, color TVs, etc.

When a local station or minor cable network is trying to decide what syndicated show to air, they might find they can make more money going with a less expensive show like Andy Griffith that delivers a smaller audience over a more recent (and thus more expensive) show that delivers a larger audience.

Watching season 2, mid flight, about half way through the season. It's good but season 1 was definitely better.

Regardless, love the show, sucks they're bailing.

The folks involved in the show say that they're all still "under contract"(?) and are currently trying to find a new home for the show. Decent outpouring of support, a fan petition, and lots of hashtags going around for it. So let's keep our fingers crossed.

I cannot imagine that this won't be picked up. It has too much of a following and everyone working on it wants it to continue. So yeah fingers crossed HARD.

I can't say anything specifically because of an NDA, but Amazon may not be done with this show.
