I did a blind taste test at my local BK and the plant one was obvious and fudging disgusting. It'd be one thing if it just tasted slightly off, and I'd give it a pass, but it tastes like burned plant mush.

Vegan and fast foot are just two things that shouldn't go together.

I've tried 2 or 3 veggie burgers in my life, where ppl I know have sworn they "taste exactly like a real hamburger" and, "you won't be able to tell the difference" and every single one I eat one bite and none of em have tasted like a real burger, and they all tasted like soy dogcrap or worse.

Never again, veggieburger... never again.

Yeah I'm not opposed to good vegetarian food but trying to emulate burgers isn't the move. Give me a real burger every time.

They tested these in my city and they did well. I didn't try one... really a veggie burger isn't supposed to taste like beef. I get them sometimes but it seems like BK's is overprocessed trash like most fast food.

Today I hear it contains mayo? Totally defeats the point of having a veggie burger if you ask me, if you're gonna put mayo or cheese on it.

I don't know.. not all people who like veggie burgers are vegan. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I'll eat a good veggie burger with beans, nuts and other ingredients and love it. I think one of the best veggie burgers I ever ate was from Momma Goldberg's. It's a southern chain so I don't get them in MO.

Mine wasn't gross or fudging disgusting, but it's obviously overhyped. Anyone who's had a Veggieburger would taste that and be like "Yep, that's a Veggieburger with Whopper toppings." Was totally inoffensive, but since the Whopper tastes better AND is cheaper, hard pass, thanks.

Most vegan alternative foods for me are completely edible, but the price point's a huge turn-off. NSFW, VOLUME WARNING

This whole Beyond Meat craze needs to stop. There are some good non meat substitutes and in Canada Presidents choice is the one I go for when I am doing something crazy.... but Beyond Meat is very unhealthy your better off just eating meat.

The only veggie burger I've really enjoyed is this Morningstar chipotle black bean burger I found a Costco a while back. I don't think they're vegan (may contain some egg). I ate these a lot when I was losing weight.

Hate it when folks try to sell a veggie burger to someone else by saying "it tastes just like a real burger!" It immediately places the veggie burger at a disadvantage because they absolutely do not taste like beef. If you go into it not expecting a beef substitute, some veggie burgs can actually be really good with the right dress up. Very doubtful I ever go to a BK to choose their vegan option though haha

There are some great vegetarian and vegan fast food options out there. I love me some Taco Bell. yes

Yeah, I never get why people say that crap. I mean, I've been a vegetarian for over 12 years now -- so I haven't tasted "real meat" in a LONG time -- and it is STILL obvious to me when something doesn't taste like meat. Of course people who eat meat regularly would be able to tell the difference!

Vegetarians eat mayo -- so it is on there to be more like a Whopper and still be meat-free. If a vegan wants one, they can order it without mayo. *shrug*

Exactly -- I think this is the point of the Impossible Whopper. It is aimed at people who already eat meat and might want to reduce that. Burger King has already had a veggie burger for over a decade now (the "BK Veggieburger" and it is a Morningstar Farms patty). They certainly aren't releasing the Impossible Whopper now just for vegetarians. That isn't their target this time (or, at least, is only PART of their target).

You might be better off, but the cow isn't. wink So, there still are good reasons to eat Beyond over real meat.

I'm actually not that into Beyond or Impossible. I have it now and then for some variety, but it isn't high on my list for all the time.

My favorite is the Morningstar Farms "Grillers Prime." That one just tastes the best to me. yes Most of their stuff, including this burger, is vegetarian but not vegan. Most of the Boca stuff is vegan.

Found a Subway inside Walmart that surprisingly had the veggie patty people on reddit rave about and it was pretty good. I'd order again.

Same. When I did the p90x stuff we ate lots. So calorie starved then everything was godly.

You guys are confusing the Veggie Burger with the Impossible Whopper. Burger King has had the Veggie Burger for years now. My wife has had it a few time, but doesn't care for it (she's a vegetarian). She finds the new Impossible Whopper to be much, much better.

I think it's placebo. I mean, it's possible they changed up the spices in the protein blend but if it still doesn't taste like a whopper, it's still a veggieburger. And it doesn't taste like a whopper. They could have called it "improved veggieburger" and it would have been more honest, maybe?

They wouldn't want to market it as improved probably, to make it sound like the old one was disgusting or something, lol

I mean at some point we're going to need to come up with something. Mind you, I don't think this Veggification is the answer, considering processing this stuff has its own greenhouse emission issues, not to mention time and scalability; probably the best thing anyone interested in addressing food issues in the future can do is find a way to make bugs appealing, edible.

That's what the Impossible Whopper should have been. You bite into it and you're like "Not bad!" and they're like "It's ants! :D"

I could see deep fried bugs as a decent crunchy snack

I've been hearing/reading a lot about Impossible and Beyond Meat and have to admit I'm curious, I'm sure it's not at meat level but I've been semi-fooled a few times by some really good/clever vegan food so I'm openminded even though I'm sure I will never stop eating meat. But replace some % of meat eating with delicious vegan alternatives, I wouldn't rule it out.
I also read that Burger King for example isnt reaching or even targeting many vegans, they're more going after the on-the-fence and part-time vegan curious people, which makes sense
