When I first open my internet browser it goes to my homepage (Juno), but within a few seconds I get hijacked. Sometimes a page opens saying my McAfee or Norton's or other virus protection has expired. Sometimes my real McAfee stops it. Sometimes I can just hit "Back" and sometimes I have to exit and reopen the browser.

I've run full scans with McAfee, Malwarebytes, Malwarebytes Adware, and Hitman Pro, but none have cured it.

what browser do you use? what extensions do you have turned on? the page always takes you to a mcaffee or norton expiration notice? do you have both of those anti-virus programs installed?

I had a somewhat similar problem not long ago. Several times daily, I'd see a mysterious tab pop up. It usually disappeared quickly, killed by Defender I'm thinking. When I checked my browser History, I'd see links from webgains.com. There was also another one or 2 odd links, but I forget their names. I also tried Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro to trace the problem and like you came up with zilch.

I finally tracked it to a browser extension I was using to stop videos from auto playing on webpages. Once I disabled (and later removed) it, the tab popups and links to webgains stopped.

Maybe try clearing your cache and all your 🍪 😋

I don't know if that will work or not, but I've found in the past that when sites are acting weird or sluggish, etc, clearing the cache can sometimes take care of the issue.

But keep in mind that this will also delete any saved passwords, site settings, and things like that.

Perhaps doing this will help.

Check your browser settings. There are settings on what to open when the browser opens.

OK. It finally stopped. I don't know if it was something I did or whether Juno's site had been hacked. The only time it happened was when I opened my browser where my homepage is set to Juno.com (my e-mail handler) - never on any other site. Sometimes it would come before I logged in to my e-mail and sometimes after. Sometimes I log in faster than others, so the hijack may have just been timing.

As stated, the McAfee comes free from my internet provider. I use Malwarebytes free version to help McAfee out, and uninstall and reinstall it when I need the extra from the 14 day Free Trail of their Premium version.

If it were me, I'd uninstall McAfee and just use Windows Defender. Even free, McAfee is too expensive. wink
