Welcome to the repurposed GOT Discussion thread! SPOILER WARNING: Spoiler tags ARE NOT necessary in this thread. Discuss freely, but be sure to AVOID THIS THREAD if you are not completely caught up. Valar morghulis!

Talk all things GOT before the final season in 2019!
DAYS UNTIL GOT: TONIGHT, FINALLY!

If this fizzles out before the premiere, I'll reopen it, but I plan to be posting sporadic theories/random thoughts as they come to me in here, so , like last year, I'd totally be into discussing them and seeing what others feel about the show. Theories, general thoughts, criticisms, post them all here.

(And cherish it, because we only have 6 episodes worth of new discussion this season. Gonna be a sad day when all the pointless theorizing ends.)

Jon is gonna get the throne. No ifs or buts about it. It's always been his (fire and ice) story. Especially with Dany going berserk.

I wonder if Sansa is secretly in love with Jon and that's why she hates Dany?

What if I have an "and" about it?

Fire and Ice is a bit complicated now. Jon is a Targ "fire wight" previously called snow. The ice part not really there is it? Ice being the walkers or Starks maybe. Fire being Jon or Dany? Maybe it's got nothing to with it at all.

Jon is the song of Ice and Fire as he was the son of Rhaegar (fire) and Lyanna (ice). He is the primary character. Either he ends up on the throne, or he plays a large part in whatever ends up happening to said throne.

Exactly. She sends Bronn to kill Tyrion, and then treats with him. She says over and over again how much she wants to crush her enemies, and then does nothing when they are right there to be wiped out. Contradiction after contradiction.

We don't even know what Jon's fate is in the books. The show certainly isn't about him. The one moment that was actually his was snatched away unceremoniously. A funny note about that, real quick. Maisie Williams did some interview and Arya killing the Night King was brought up. She said she was conflicted about it, because Arya didn't seem to earn it. She also said she asked her boyfriend about it, who said Jon should be the one to do it.

Thought that at first too. But the story has been a two faceted story of Westeros and Essos and two characters coming together. Who were called "fire" and "ice" at one point in the story. Maybe the unknown parentage of Jon Snow is why he's both but was called Ice. It seems more convoluted now with a few more candidates in play. Maybe it will be cut and dry.

Tyrion is definitely the meat of the books. The show has Jon having like one more minute of screen time than Tyrion for top two up until end of 7. Definitely a toss up at this point which has more screen time. Not that this makes them the focus by any means.

I don't think the show is about any one character. Jon, Dany, Cersei, Jaime and Tryion have all had the spotlight on them at various points of the show.

Indeed. So much time wasted Stannis, Melisandre. With two episodes to go it's a little easier with it coming to focus- the show has never really had a pull for me nearly as much as the books- on the focus that is.

If I've learned anything from the series- don't be cocksure of anything- even in the eleventh- nah, thirteenth hour.

After seeing that chart, I had to check out S5E6 and see what is was that had people so pissed off. Boring Arya stuff, horrible Jaime & Bronn Dorne adventure, boring Faith Militant nonsense, and then oh yea, Sansa's rape scene. I definitely see why it's the poorest rated episode in the show's history.

I think the show "Lost" is a great indicator of writers that have no idea the direction they are going...and I have to say GoT has felt this way at times (to a much lesser degree of course).

Some of the characters having little to no role anymore indicates to me they are throwing crap at the wall, hoping some sticks, and then changing their course over and over again whenever they feel like it.

Still a great show, still love the story. But I can't help but feel this way.

Back to predictions...not sure if it has been said, but the simple way the dragon was killed and the fact that Cersei questioned whether it was dead or not makes me believe Jon will end up on that dragon again in the future and save the day. I don't think it's dead.

I love the fact that there are so many characters who could legitimately kill so many other characters and it wouldn't surprise me. Pretty cool how they make alot of the people good guys, but bad guys at the same time - and so many of them have a "spiderweb" type of beef with other people.

I heard this on some Youtube video, and it really stuck with me. The reason why GoT was so great early on was because it didn't feel like the characters were being contained within a preconceived plot. Everything the characters did, felt like they were doing it for themselves, not to further a plot. Almost as if we were just watching characters live their lives, Big Brother style. Even an event such as the Red Wedding, which was shocking and disturbing, felt "natural" because the characters who came up with and carried out that plan seemed totally believable. Tywin Lannister wiped out House Castamere without remorse to get rid of his enemies. Walder Frey always felt minimized by the Tully's, and Robb Stark spitting in his face by not taking one of his daughters in marriage was the last straw. Roose Bolton saw an opportunity to move himself and his house up in status, and he took it. It all felt believable within the world we were shown.

Nothing really feels believable anymore, IMO. Dany, who said she wanted to "break the wheel" and spent time in Meereen simply because she wanted to become a good ruler, has regressed into this mindless being who is consumed with getting on the iron throne at all costs, ASAP. She appoints Jon Warden of the North and Gendry Lord of Storm's End, totally going against her "breaking the wheel" speech. Cersei, the daughter of Tywin Lannister and brutal dictator, has a golden opportunity to strike down her enemies once and for all and does not take it for whatever reason. Bran and Arya, once characters with hopes and ambitions, are now really nothing more than robots. Even the world of Westeros itself has forgotten how it works. Gendry proposes to Arya, which doesn't make any sense. This is a feudalistic world, and marriages do not come about for love, but are created out of necessity. The proposed or actual marriages of Sansa and Joffrey/Tyrion/Ramsay, Margaery and Joffrey/Tommen/Renly, Cersei and Loras, Bronn and Lolly's Stokeworth, Roose Bolton and Walda Frey and Myrcella and Trystane are all examples of this. Cersei taking the crown doesn't make any sense. There are lines of succession. Dany is certainly known to most people in Westeros by the time Cersei takes the throne. Dany is the legitimate claimant to the iron throne (because nobody knows about Jon). Even Cersei's staunchest allies should have a problem with her taking throne. To sum it up, the characters exist now for no other reason than to drive the plot forward.

I highly recommend you all buy Crusader Kings II on PC, and then donwload the GoT mod. Do yourself a favor and do it.

I have the GoT mod installed on Mount & Blade. Played the crap out of it. Is CK2 that much better?

BTW, to show how much of a disaster this season has been, and how it's only going to get worse, check this out. https://twitter.com/.... I respect Emilia & Kit for being honest.

Different kind of game. Not an action game (CKII). Its a strategy game based around politics.

Just checked it out on Youtube. Looks similar to Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis, which I love. I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, same thing. All are made by the same people, Paradox Interactive. I started a CKII GoT game years ago. And I plan on starting a new one once the show is over. Since there isn't a legit GoT games. The old PS360 one wasn't that good.
