Hint: The Kirby's Epic Yarn narrator voices one of the villains. That seriously narrows it down.

If you've played Kirby, sure. That clue is useless to me!

Looking up voice actors could do the trick, but I'll provide another hint: The Japanese commercial advertised how emotionally devastating it is to lose one of your units, because once he/she is killed in this war game, it's permanent!

As an American, I totally watch Japanese ads and products. I'll get right on figuring out this hint, that as an American I surely know the answer to!

This made me immediately think of Fire Emblem. Since you said Ike was in it and released in 2007 it must be Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

Path of Radiance was definitely released before 2007. Nintendo moved first party titles over to Wii at that point. The Radiant games are the only FE games released in the west that I still haven't played.

Radiant Dawn was released Nov 2007 in the US, according to Wikipedia.

That game does look intriguing. Although, I think they may have leaned a bit too much into making it feel like an old 8-bit game. I get the impression that the controls are a bit clunky, and the difficulty looks to be a bit on the frustrating side. That's just how it appears from quickly skimming a gameplay video though, can't say for sure without playing it myself.
