Doesn't look like there's a discussion thread for PS4, unless I'm blind. Let's discuss PS4, then, in this thread.

Recent news: according to Kotaku, Gamestop is no longer taking preorders for the system. Hope you got your preorder in!

I can't really justify buying a PRO for many reason. At this point may as well wait for PS5 since it'll be Backwards Compatible

If you have a 4K/HDR setup I would still get a Pro so you can enjoy enhanced games for the next couple years or so till the PS5 comes out, unless you're on a tight budget etc.

no 4K, which makes it even more pointless.

And so many of the games are only running in upscaled 2K, PS4 Pro's such a fake hedgehog.

Ya then I would wait till PS5. I have 4K, HDR, and PSVR so I kind of need it. Really depends on your setup.

It presents a very nice 2160p image that looks just as sharp to me as the One X image of the same game in real life, even if it did get there with checkerboard upscaling of 1440p on some games, and looks better than the 1080p counterpart, especially on a big ass screen.

For only $150 or so more, to me it seems like an easy buy if you're running a 4K setup. I think it's good at what it does, and definitely cannot wait till the PS5 is relased and we get true native 4K60 HDR (which the One X can't do either) on pretty much every game.

I'm still struggling to see how an affordable console can push out 60@4K (actual, not the checkerboard bullcrap) but I'm ready to be delighted. Also prepared to laugh.

I've said it before, and I'll probably have to keep saying it until I'm in my 60s.

Games that actually fudging work properly on launch and are enjoyable without micro-transactions > 60fps and 4k graphics.

GPU technology is getting better and better. Supposedly the PS5 is going to push 10-12 TF whereas the Pro does about 4. Using a 7nm chip that helps with heat issues, faster RAM, more RAM, 3 times the GPU output, 4K60 shouldn't actually be that difficult, especially when games are console optimized.

Don't get me wrong, I have a see to believe attitude too, but i also know i am buying it on day 1 regardless of what it does. I just don't think it's crazy for a $400 or $500 console to push out 4K60 with modern day technology.

It's a good bet that the PS5 if it's PS4 BWC will be good value moving forward.

I'd be happy with a deeper BWC pool, we'll have to see what's coming out the gate!

What's the consensus with Days Gone on here?

Every review I watch/read says something completely different. Half say the story sucks and world rocks, half say the world sucks and story rocks. Is it worth $60?

new info from platinum. 2 more games in development, they're never going to finish anything at this rate.

interview with the head guy, heres the details.

Bayonetta 3 will see a change in design process based on Platinum Games' experience on developing Bayonetta 1 and 2.

Platinum Games is midway through the development of an unannounced title which "has never been done before," according to Inaba. He added, "I know a lot of people say that, but the game we're working on truly is unlike anything else. Even for our varied history of veteran game developers, this is something that has never been designed before. So from a game design perspective, we're very excited right now."

Platinum Games is aiming to move towards self-publishing, as it will eventually have the "freedom" to own its intellectual properties and make independent decisions on future directions.

"2019 will be an incredibly important year for us," Inaba said. "Without speaking directly to the number of titles we may or may not announce, I can say it's going to be a year of some major new approaches, new challenges and new methods for us. Basically, we're building a new foundation that in later years will pay dividends. For us, new challenges are going to be very important."

Platinum Games' new approaches include a move away from relying on external publisher funding, as well as an examination of how it structures game design.

While Platinum Games has worked with third-party partners in the past on properties it does not own, such as Bayonetta, NieR: Automata, and the upcoming Astral Chain, it is currently working on two new intellectual properties owned entirely by the studio, neither of which have been announced.

The creation of wholly-owned properties will not result in the end of third-party collaborations, however. "There are still going to potentially be games in which we partner with publishers to do big things with big IPs," Inaba said. There might be some co-publishing options where we're doing some of it and they're doing some of it to make a larger game, and there might be situations where we're going to be self-publishing larger games as well."

For a company that had anything to do with Nier Automata to say that they're doing something that's never been done before is pretty bold, considering that game had elements of like every game style known to man.

This all sounds really crazy.

Anything Platinum related gets me hyped. One of the few developers whose games I will always buy on day one.

ya they are up there.. CDPR, Paradox, Falcom, Ryu Ga Gotuku, and proabably most anything from platinum i trust solid enough to be auto buys.

another studio once famous for Commander Shepherds favorite store on the Citadel used to be in that list. :'(

I'd probably put Rockstar near the top of that list. GTA6 is going to be the Avengers Endgame of sales and pre-purchases etc.
