I'm torn. I have a 2018 82" Q6C Samsung. It was the low end, of the high end, back then (paid $3.5k, ugh). It's been suffering from some burn in with some vertical Pillars. Not from anything we've watched/played, can't really explain it, but it's on the way out.
My living room is 20x20x20, has a lower and upper set of windows, open floor plan to the kitchen. I say all this because there's a fair amount of daylight on a regular basis.
OLED is clearly the champion of picture quality, but don't do as well with a lot of ambient light. Further OLEDS are more prone to burn in.
I'm set on Samsung due to affiliate discounting and torn between their OLED and NEO-QLED.
OLED is pretty capped out at 77". Even though 83s exist they're not the same PANEL. Samsungs 83" OLED isn't using the new kickass QD-OLED but instead using LGs dated WOLED. Still awesome (from what I'm told) but doesn't get nearly as bright, which may be a challenge for my setup.
QLED (and the newer NEO variant) have gotten much better, but don't have as rich of colors, and suffer on blacks. Yet, they're brighter and combat light/glare much better.
I saw the 77 OLED and NEO-OLED in person today. The Neo is definitely brighter and the OLED is more rich.
The time old debate of size vs quality.
Here's the pricing for the three in question as I'd prefer to spend less, but they're not too far off from one another. The black friday pricing combined with affiliate discount, is fantastic.
$1.9k for the 77" S90C (QD-OLED)
$2.6k for the 83" S90C (WOLED)
$2.1k for the 85" QN90C (microLED)
$3.8k for the 98" Q80C (QLED)
Ugh, this is tough... for some reason, my gut says go with the QN90C.
The QN95C seems like it'd be the best middle ground but Samsung USA no longer sells it. Talked to two reps, they say it's discontinued.
I'm stuck on analysis paralysis and need a push one way or another. The internet at large says 77" OLED is the way to go but I don't like the idea of going smaller, when I set out to go bigger.
Alternatively, just wait until (hopefully) a QD-OLED 83+ is made.

Hey i went with the 65" s90c and i love it. I know your lighting situation isn't the same as mine but my gf and i usually turn off the bright lights and have 1 soft light. Its also placed in front of the window so the sun don't shine on it directly. But other than the OS it looks miles better than the 44inch 1080p hisense i was using. Thats just my two cents though i know a lot of people want the biggest.

I upgraded from a 75" 2017ish (can't remember the exact model) Samsung mid-range TV in January, decided to go with the 85" QN90B and have been super happy with the upgrade. I did shop the OLED models around that time, but like you get a fair amount of daylight that couldn't be easily avoided so I went with the QLED for brightness - in practice, I doubt I would have had issues with either panel tech. The price difference between the 85" QLED and 83" (LG) OLED was nice as well, and probably swayed my decision a bit (~$2700 vs. $3300 I believe at that time). I can't say that I notice the difference between the 75" and 85" from 15+ feet away on my couch for normal watching, but definitely notice the brightness, contrast, and smoothness improvements over the old TV, especially in full daylight. The only place I notice any of the QLED downsides are credits, with the sharp white text blooming a bit against the solid black. Games and 4k HDR movies are amazing!
I stressed over my purchase quite a lot, but I think no matter which you choose it will be a fantastic choice - especially at those prices for the top of the line. Good luck with the purchase!

Really? I find this super interesting. I went from 50 to 70 to 82, over the course of 9 years. I keep wanting to go bigger. I feel like the difference of 10" is pretty significant!

Really? I find this super interesting. I went from 50 to 70 to 82, over the course of 9 years. I keep wanting to go bigger. I feel like the difference of 10" is pretty significant!

When those lights are on, how bad is it? I read mixed reviews of "it's not that bad" to "avoid oled at all costs with too much light".

Honestly its not bad. I still see color and picture clear just fine. But i mostly use it for games and to watch 4k movies on. It still looks gorgeous and would recommend.

I wouldn't go back to a 75" for sure, if I had my way I would completely cover the wall where my TV is mounted...but even the first few weeks, I didn't turn on the TV and think "dang this TV is so much bigger", but even after almost a year I still marvel at the improvement in picture quality. I had/have a light kit on the back of both TVs for the ambient glow which probably helped the 75" fill up the wall more and might be why I don't notice as much. Either way, I'm with you - as long as you can afford the difference in cost (which is pretty minor these days) and have the space to mount it, bigger is always better!

I got tired of the TV thing and went with an ultra short throw projector a couple years ago. 120", 4k, its amazing. I'll never go back to a TV.

I absolutely want to do this but my living room, this is 100% impossible unless I get remote black out blinds. That and there's no wall from my living room, which an absolute ton of light floods in from. Maybe next house.

Yeah, I had the same issue at my last house. Too much light in the room all day long from every direction. That fades it out during the day if you get that much direct light on the screen itself.

If I can sell my current TV for $500-$600 now, it's a much easier sell. The longer I wait, the harder it will be to sell. Selling an 82" used without box, is gonna be hard regardless.

Just measured what a 98" would look like, Holy crap.
Going from $2100 for an 85" to $3800 for a 98" is super aggressive and way more than I want to spend.... But... Wow that size could be fun for general TV and shows.
The 98" is $5k on BF sales, getting another $1200 off is appealing.
I do most of my gaming on my 34" SUW monitor and a junky Q60C 65" in the basement. So this main TV really is more family stuff (movies and shows), with occasional gaming.
Ugh. Size vs quality. I'm seriously stuck.

I don't know if it's still a thing, but direct sunlight is/was bad for OLED. A lot of the higher end LCDs look nearly as good as OLED, especially for a general purpose daytime set. From the choices you listed I'd go with the QN90C.

So I just went to Costco because they also have the 77-in QD - OLED and it was a significantly better viewing experience than what I saw at Best Buy due to the lighting. Costco still has an absolute ton of lighting but my God that picture was significantly better than all the surrounding TVs hands down. Then I walked over and looked at the qled and it felt old and tired in comparison. I really don't want to go down in size but man I question if this isn't worth it. Not to mention it saves a few bucks.

Yeah, you can't ship it. That would be way too expensive. And what are you going to put it in without the original box. It has to be a local sale. And local sales in my experience are always a nightmare with people trying to lowball and negotiate for the lowest possible price, or just straight up free. I tried to sell a 70" 2017 samsung when I moved in 2020, for $100. And people kept trying to ask me if they could just have it for free before saying they changed their minds. I finally had a enough of that and just gave it to a buddy to sell. He had the same issue, and still has the tv to this day.

I could get it in my f150, but someone would have to sit back there and hold onto it.
