The Toy Collecting + Figure Photography Thread

A thread for us forever-kids who dig this sort of thing to talk toys, figure photography, collections, etc. Show yours off, I wanna see em.
Obviously not my photos (you can find some of those in the thread), but look at these things:
image
Friggin neat. I should preface this thread by saying I tend to lean toward nostalgic properties/toys and I'm not all that "in" on the figure collecting scene. There are just certain pieces that I need and this TMNT/Power Rangers mash up is like smashing two huge aspects of my 90s kid childhood into one gorgeous project. Only one I'm not mega into is Tommy as the Foot Clan soldier (the Tommy head isn't in the photo). I dig that they brought at least one Power Ranger character into the TMNT world instead of vice versa but Tommy doesn't strike me as a Foot guy. That Shredder/Green Ranger mash up is a legit dream fig though.
But yah, share photos of your stuff or just talk about the toys (upcoming or retro) that interest you, etc etc.

I'm slowly working on a collection of the WildCATS figures, going for a new in box set. I only have 3 so far though, Hellspont, Warblade, and Zealot.
Other than that I just grab random figures, recently got one of Josuke from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Teddie/Kuma from Persona 4 The Animation.

I have a lot of nostalgia for classic toys, but never had any interest in collecting them. Just video games for me. The only toy I would like to collect is Legos, but they're so dang expensive, and would take up so much space. It's not even something I can say "maybe one day..." because once they're out of print, they skyrocket to even more ridiculous prices.

Pretty much just Legos for me. Though I will say, even with Legos I struggle to find the time to complete the larger sets. The two large sets I picked up were the Eiffel Tower and Hogwarts. I finished the Eiffel Tower and it's now on display in my wife's classroom, she is a French teacher. I've owned the Hogwarts set for several years and it's still mid-build. I need a clear weekend to finish it up. At that point though, I really don't know what I'll do with it. Maybe just sell it.

I've never been big into figure collecting. But I do have a bunch of the 90's burger king toys from the pokemon promo and a bunch of the tomy pokemon figures. All from my childhood that I've kept. I wouldn't mind getting more at some point. Possibly some amiibo too from smash characters I really like.
There were from 1/7 scaled figures of Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade 2 that released a few years ago that I would love to have but they're way too pricey now. The upcoming amiibo releases will probably satisfy my need.

I'm all over the map with toys.
Right now I'm really obsessed with Ashley Wood's Underverse line of 1:6 scale figures.
My most recent purchase from that line was the Mean Essene JC which comes in this huge box.
image
I keep most of my collection at my photography studio as during down times on when inspiration hits I'll photograph some of them.
One of my walls features a good portion of my collection that are still in boxes, including some original Super Powers that I've had since I was a kid.
image
My most recent figure was the Neca Macready figure from THE THING, and before that I picked up the Quint NECA figure.
image
stuff at the studio:
image
image
image
I'm also obsessed with the Soul of Chogokin metal robots from the late 70's and early 80's robot cartoons I used to watch as a kid (Force Five - Starvengers, Grendizer, Gaiking, Danguard Ace).
I have the three Starvengers and a Grendizer with saucer but I had to stop there as they are expensive.
image
and other stuff
image
image
image
I'm especially a huge fan of NECA's Alien figures in the compression suits. I love the Mobieus-style designs of them.
image
They are my go-to figures when I need to just spend a little time in my own brain and photograph something.
You can see a bunch of my crap here: www.sidceaserfineart.com

Not a joke and there’s already been a comic. And even if it were a new series.... it’d probably be badass for the children it’d be made for.

@Sid_Ceaser What exactly is a Figma figure? Never heard of those.
Anyhow, glad to see folks are still using this thread to share toy stuff, love seeing them.
I have a question: do yall tend to keep the majority of your figures packaged or do you "let em breathe"? For years now I've always kept mine in their packaging. But boy, is that starting to take up space, and for figures that haven't really changed in value or anything. Not that value is why I keep them packaged, I just like to have everything together as it was released, but lately I've been REAL tempted to just rip the plastic off entirely and display the figures in their full glory.
Buddy got me this guy for my birthday a while back and I finally opened him up the other day. It was very satisfying to tear him off the card:

Figma is a line by Max Factory and Good Smile
https://www.figma.jp...
Very extensive. Lots of stuff.
I keep some of my figures in their boxes hung up. Others I have opened and had on display and tossed the boxes. I have plastic shopping bags filled with various figures that have decorated shelves over the decades. Now all just hanging out in a giant plastic orgy in those bags.

I’ve bought a couple of Figmas on discount: Skyward Sword Link at GameStop and Gridman from Madman (anime distributor in Australia). Yeah, they’re pretty nice.
I’ve also got a few S.H. Figuarts: Sailor Moon, Super Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Super Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Mario, and Kamen Rider Kuuga Rising Titan Form.
Also have several Nendoroids: Kirby (regular and Ice), Meta Knight, Waddle Dee, Isabelle, Professor Layton, Luigi, and Mei from Overwatch (I don’t play Overwatch, just thought she was cute). And to the surprise of absolutely no one, I have the Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth Nendoroids preordered.
Hoping for a reprint and decent deal on Beam Kirby and an eventual King Dedede Nendoroid.

If your local Wal Mart has them for $20 that is an awesome price.

That Outback figure is really cool. Figures with beards!!
I've never been a big Dungeons & Dragons fan, but when I was a kid I had the Warduke figure:
image
I always thought he looked badass.
They just announced a new version that looks killer!
image
I instantly tossed in a pre-order over at Entertainment Earth for him. Arrives sometime in April.

Sincerely thinking of tearing most of the figs I have out of their packaging to make more shelf room. Most of them aren't going to go up in value and I'm just being stubborn.
However, these 3 sets I feel need to remain right where they are. It seems most still go for $50+ and I can't see them plummeting in value anytime soon.
Ahhh.... things of absolute beauty.

I'm getting there. I certainly did gaf for a long while but at this point, it's only certain things I tend to gaf about. Like those Saga figs.
Even though I don't know why I care even then - I'd likely never sell them off, no matter how high their value raised. So what's the real point? haha

I suspect they will. The big rumor at the moment is an eventual Serpentor, which would be great too. The Night Creepers/Night Creeper leader would be cool additions as well. They did release a 3 3/4 night creeper from the Origins movie, but I want a Classified version of both.
Also looks like Storm shadow and Spirit Iron Knife got pushed back a few months to June-July as well :/

I miss the few GI Joes I had as a kid... but tbh I miss the "lesser brand" CORPS way more. I had so many CORPS figures, I would die for that collection back.
Anyhow, we were talking about Batman: Death of the Family in the Comics thread so figured I'd whip these up. Wonderful figures that I've been on the fence about opening since I first got them. Don't think either is particularly sought after/valuable, but I like having them complete in the box with all the accessories and whatnot.
Joker from Death of the Family & Red Hood (Joker pre-Joker) from Zero Year. Both stories written by Scott Snyder, and both designs drawn by Greg Capullo.

I tried to see what series those figures are from, since they're definitely not GI Joe. Best I could come up with is (maybe) Battle of the Stars. Either way, they're pretty cool!

I have a couple of figures Ive gathered since my teenage years. I dont think I have a full collection of anything really. I used to buy Final Fantasy stuff but back then I couldnt really afford anything over $25.
Now Im more into statues but Ive ran out of space for them.
I have a few from Dragon Ball, Bastard!!, Final Fantasy, Zelda, TMNT, Metal Gear and Street Fighter. But most of my collection is just random anime figures. Ill have to take some pics one of these days.
When I saw the TMNT 1990s figures from Neca I just had to buy them. I was lucky to get all 4 at reasonable prices before they became harder to get. Theyre awesome display pieces.

oh, nice that 2nd one is a nicer pose. Less dynamic, but I like it.

Thats too bad! Chun Li figures always end up being rare. My last buy was a Chun statue and I was sure it got lost in the mail. I bought it straight from Japan and it took more than 2 months to arrive. I saved more than $100 by purchasing it from a Japanese store but its definitely risky. I havent taken it out of the box yet (dont have space to display it!) otherwise Id take a few pics.

Snapped a couple of pics of my very full and not set up in any way shelf, it's getting out of hand. What you don't see on the shelf is some random NECA horror figures behind other boxes, various collector's editions (two in those boxes beside the shelf), and a few other things. I need another shelf for sure, we're just still trying to set that bedroom up to get ready for when we have a baby.

Yeah most of these unlicensed figures like that are of fantastic quality, though. I think the unlicensed part and slight name variations turns some people off (and probably the price), but Ellie is amazing. The cylinder on the revolver comes out and spins, there's a Taylor authentication sticker inside the guitar, the bow actually shoots, most of the diary pages are filled out with text from the game that you can actually read, etc. Very high quality

I've got some ThreeA 1:6 scale figures from Ashley Wood's line, and the detail is nuts. All the weapons and bags and holsters and ... everything is so detailed and operable. I've eyeballed a few of those "off-name" figures but the prices usually scare me away, but 1:6 scale is a whole other world. So good. So expensive.

I've eyeballed a few of those "off-name" figures but the prices usually scare me away, but 1:6 scale is a whole other world. So good. So expensive.

That’s pretty great. I think I would have made Raph the wolf man though. He’s just that much of an butt-hole.

Hell yah, they all look like great figures. Like Feeb alluded to, some of the character choices are a bit weird though. Leo as Igor is a decision haha. But they all look great as actual figures, I may need to throw a pre order on the others.

Here's some pictures of one my recently set up shelves. (Ignore the torn off window frame and trim we had to tear down because we found water damage, gotta fix all that, ugh.)
My 2nd shelf is in progress, but here's part of the TMNT section on it:
Eventually once we remodel that room, I'll be installing some better shelves for display. For now though, this is what I have to work with.

I used to have the old Liu Kang figure at that scale. GI Joe style right? My sister bought it for me and I vividly remember playing with it in a Christmas tree one year haha. gosh darn, that just flashed me right back in time.

yep that's them! I need to get the rest of the line at some point just to round it out. I had them all when I was a wee lad but they got handed down and lost at some point.
And thanks! I've been building it up for a while, but got many more additions to come. I like to save all the boxes of the ones I open though, so storage is becoming an issue already.

I just ordered the 1/4 scale (Movie) Shredder to go along with my turtles. Got it at a reduce price due to the box not being mint, which I dont care about. Ill have to leave it in the box for now since I dont have space for it on my displays but I couldnt pass on the discounted price. I hope they make a 1/4 Super Shredder from the 2nd movie.
Also preordered one of the 7 inch Last Ronin figures from Neca. I dont normally buy figures that small but it looks pretty good.

Not sure if anyone wants these but Target pre-orders of Python Patrol Viper and B.A.T. went live again, along with Outback:
https://www.target.c...
https://www.target.c...
https://www.target.c...
They also added a lot of the new ones coming out, just search GI Joe classified on their website for those to come up. One note about target preorders though, they charge you up front - they call it an authorization charge but it renews before it falls off every time, and sometimes it renews 2 or 3 times before the others go away depending on your bank, which is stupid and highly annoying. I don’t typically preorder much from them for that reason. But these are target exclusives and sold out on Hasbro, so options are limited if you want them.

Never got into collecting those yet, but that looks awesome @theJaw!
Some more GI Joe Classified figure pre-orders dropped today. I'm a Hasbro Pulse premium member so I got my pre-orders in there, but they're sold out. You can find them on Amazon though! It's Kamakura and a Blue Ninja 2 pack:
https://www.amazon.c... - Kamakura
https://www.amazon.c... - Blue Ninja
Apparently they've implemented that price hike on figures now, as Kamakura is up to 33.99. Blue Ninjas are 44.99 but that's for two, even though they're just repaints basically. Either way, I pre-ordered two of each on Hasbro Pulse, so if anyone wants one that can't snag one, I can probably help out!

So I ordered the "Jol" and "Elly" from here: https://giantoy.com/..., but that pre-order is sold out.
There is one available here, though: https://www.tnsfigur...
https://www.tnsfigur...
They're basically 90ish each, which is steep, but they look incredible. They're of the same quality as that 12inch Ellie I got, just in 6 inch form. Weapons are usually highly detailed, have some limited function, etc. That TNS site looks kinda sketch but I've used them before with no issues, in case anyone is wondering. You can put down a deposit to reserve a pre-order, or just pay in full up front. Either way, these things almost always double in price after release and the only place to find them later is eBay. They're not licensed but neither was my CCToys Ellie I got, and it's one of, if not my favorite piece that I own.

They have SF and MK figures too. They all look cool and have some accessories but I still think theyre greatly over priced at around $100 each for a 1/12th scale. Neca does and good smile make similar figures for 1/2 the price....although I honestly think those are also overpriced tbh.
Figures and Statue prices have gone up considerably in the past few years. Play Arts Kai are like $140+ now, and I remember buying them at $70 at most. Kotobukiya statues have also gone up in prices. I may have to limit myself to "prize" figures in the future if these keep going up.

Blade: https://drive.google... https://drive.google...Nice. What are the approximate dimensions of the Predator ones?
And the Deadpool/Hellboy figures, do they come stacked like that, or did you do that?

The Predator figs are the NECA ones, so they're usually around 8 inches in height or so. They're also very sturdy and heavy figures.
And no, the Deadpool/Hellboy figs are just separate figs, nothing to do with one another - I often pose/set up figures in a way I find entertaining

I will definitely need to stop buying these giant figures as I have nowhere to out them right now. But it was too cool to pass up.

Yeah they're crazy good, especially for the price point. The only bigger scale figure I have at the moment is the Ellie figure I posted in the topic a while back - she set me back a good bit, so once I get the matching Joel, I'll probably stick to the 1/12 scale instead of the 1/6 or 1/4. 6-8 inch figures I feel are still a great size and many have just as much detail as their larger counterparts - at about half (or less) the price.
Don't get me wrong though, if I had the space and budget, I'd probably own every 12"+ fig that interested me just because they're incredible.

Those are both badass figures. It's always so cool to me that you can find the exact same version of the Sgt. Slaughter character in two different toy lines - WWF and GI Joe. Obv not the same figures, but the character is the same.

And as an aside to folks here, be careful using some sites ordering figures. I THOUGHT Giantoy was a reputable place, but I had an order a month ago that they've been giving me the run around on, and they're saying they won't refund me now because the address must have been incorrect which caused the package to get lost. It was a $200+ order. Checking into a chargeback but I used PayPal through my bank, not a credit card, and both paypal and the bank are saying that I have to go through the other to get my money back. It sucks that I have my Joel and Ellie figures pre-ordered through them, but I'm gonna go ahead and cancel that at this point.

Ive started using Entertainment Earth recently. They seem to be very careful with packaging and they really try with the whole "mint" thing. And they've had a free shipping code for months so thats also great.
I really like BBTS but the $4 flat shipping doesnt ship to me. Their store is unmatched though.
I havent had any issues with online stores except for Toy Origin. Stay away from them.

They did try and track the package down and they've gotten back to me within hours every time, they apparently just have a take no responsibility clause when it's lost in transit. I figure I'll likely be able to get my money back at some point (hopefully), it's just a mess I don't have alot of time to deal with.

My son and I used to collect old Kenner Aliens/Predators (which is fitting with all of the chatter about Prey). We did a some bandai and monsterarts Godzilla stuff. I need to dig those out and snap a few pics. I'm not really into collecting toys without him. He's 14 now and its almost died out.
We got into a lot of older stuff too, but its a load to dig those out.
M.A.S.K
Dukes of Hazzard Mego (sold those on ebay a few years ago, shouldn't have)
Knight Rider
a ton of Kenner Star Wars in varying degrees of condition
loads of GI Joe
A Team
Karate Kid
It was all stuff from when we were showing him all of the 80s movies and TV shows.

I found them in Wal-Mart. Definitely check around your local ones, because they have been putting them out. I'll check for more randomly and let you know if you're interested, they're $60-70 each if I recall. They had a 4-pack VHS style box up for early pre-order in February that I wished I had seen (online only through NECA), and would've gotten that instead, but oh well.

I know the face sculpts and suits are slightly different, the way the belts ride (they rode higher in the first movie, lowered them in the 2nd), but the differences aren't huge overall for the turtles. If you just want 4 turtles and don't mind which ones, just get whichever ones you can find cheaper and you'll probably be happy. I'm trying to collect all of the NECA movie ones. I wanted to try for the NECA animated ones, but that would get too expensive considering most of them are hard to find in my local Targets.

Im happy with my 1990s turtles and Shredder 1/4 scales. There's the foot soldier one but Im not really interested in that, it would be cool to have a few for a diorama but that is space I dont have. If they release a Super Shredder 1/4 scale I would be obliged to get it. I dont have any of the small scales figures but Id get the secret of the ooze ones if they were easy to get. I did preorder one of the Last Ronin figures, that would be my first. Ive seen neca figures at my walmart but only horror movie figures.

I actually saw that Shredder/Splinter set and one of the sets with two turtles in a WalMart during my annual Vermont trip in August. I was so, so tempted to snag them but had minimal space to pack anything. I'll need to keep my eyes open around here next time I get to a WalMart.

Got a few pics of some of my Joy Toy 1/18 scale figures. Some I've posted before in little scenes, but these pics are just showcasing them
Skeleton Forces:

Blackhawkz Fleet:

https://drive.google...
Golden Legion:
https://drive.google...
https://drive.google...
Cult of San Reja (my favorite):

https://drive.google...
The Cult line has several more coming out early next year which I'll definitely grab, along with some motorcycles and an armored Mech unit they have :O. Pretty excited about that.
EDIT: And as a side note, I finally got my money back from the Giantoy fiasco I posted in here about a while back. They DID own up to the mistake being on their end, sent me a refund, and gave me a $25 store credit, so that story has a happy ending!

Are those characters from a video game or something? Very neat figures regardless.
I need to be super strict with money right now, so the toy buying will be put on hold. I may just tear the band-aid off and open up some of the figures I've been keeping in box so I can display them easier in the apartment and take better photos of them. Will probably start with those TMNT/Power Rangers figures I posted a while back.
Also if anyone wants to buy WWE figures, let me know. I have a big ol' box I'm looking to get rid of.

As near as I can tell, no. I'm pretty sure JoyToy just created these toys and then created story/lore to go with them. I know the Skeleton Forces guys DO have a comic line, but I'm pretty sure that was created after the actual figures were conceptualized, and I think it's an independent thing, not a mass market comic release. All these other figures come with these little pamphlets detailing some backstory and such, so they put some effort into them. I feel like they're probably based on existing things or inspired by already established franchises, but there's enough creativity there to stand them apart for sure.

Speaking of Neca.... their Black Friday "Sale", which consisted of putting up some turtles figures in stock on their "store", was a total disaster. It lasted a total of 2 minutes and things went out of stock before you could check out. I really dont understand how this company works, they could be making so much more money!

Yeah, but Its practically impossible in person too. Youd just have to constantly toy hunt walmart/target/bb to try and get lucky but even that is not an option here since my stores rarely get new stock. There is only 1 best buy here in PR and it does stock up ever few months but its 2 hours away.
I am now trying Entertainment Earth for preorders but it looks like they have the same trouble getting them (its been months backordered lol)

Yeah, it’s difficult to get most of the TMNT stuff. I had a bit of luck having 3 Walmarts in relative close proximity, so I’ve been able to grab all the TMNT movie stuff for retail. I haven’t tried to collect any of the animated series NECA stuff because I’ve rarely seen most of them in my local Targets.

Yeah figure prices are insane now. Megahouse, GSC and a couple others still have some more affordable ones. I technically paid over retail but with the exchange rate differences compared to when it launched it was less. Most places are asking like double retail now...
There isn't a ton I would want now and I have some I wouldn't mind getting rid of. Might go for something from Monogatari and/or a Gilgamesh (from fate) figure. If I were wish listing something to get made I'd buy a nice figure of Ippo. Not getting that Orca Toys one that is like $300 retail most likely. Do have my eye on it in case one pops up for a bit less.

I normally dont buy figures this small but its the only figures available from the Power Rangers Battle for The Grid Designs.
Unfortunately theyre rather expensive at $34 each for what you get but I guess they look kinda cool. For the price, they shouldve at least added a 2nd head sculpt (without helmet).
There are 2 more that Im not planning on getting. Cammy and Ken, but it looks like they just recolored some other ranger sculpts and didnt even try. Lazy cash grab so Im not getting those.

Yeah. I thought about it for a few months. Finally pulled the trigger and preordered it since I doubt they will re release something like this. They used a custom tbleague body, everything else looks to be professionally sculpted and painted. Everything about it, even the box, is high quality. It is very impressive. The only thing that looks rough are the feet joints. Ive seen a lot of cool shots of the figure online.

Ever since we moved into the new apartment, my funds have been super tight so I unfortunately haven't been able to partake in snagging any new figures or anything. Bummer for sure. I might pull some of my boxed figures out of storage soon to open them up and display them just to revisit them and feel like a toy collector again haha.
Looking forward to seeing more photos from you folks though. I did find a few AEW trading card blaster boxes for relatively cheap, so once those get delivered I'll snap some photos of my trading card collection so far and throw them in here.

Here’s my budding trading card collection. Used to have a ton as a younger fella but those all fell by the wayside. Figured just flipping through my binder in quick gif form would be easier than posting a ton of photos. Starts with my LOST cards, followed by a full set of retro Savage Dragon cards, and then my recently purchased AEW cards (snagged a blaster box from both the 2021 and 2022 sets).

I just used the iphone app and uploaded. Nice and easy.
Anyhow, I live upstairs from my buddy. One of his dogs passed away about 2 months ago so I’ve been bringing his other dog up here every day to hang out with my cat and dog so she won’t feel lonely, since I work remotely from home. To thank me, he surprised me with this bad boy. Friggin badass, and now I desperately want to get more of the figures in this cartoony style.

Holy crap I really do need to actually open the figures I buy more often. I felt like a legitimate child opening and posing this sucker.

Jagwar joined the party, now I’m only missing Dreadmon from this specific TMNT line. Really hope they announce the actual turtle figures soon.

Yah I love the figures based off the Mirage comics, there’s a few I’d love to snag but I don’t wanna go down that wormhole. Sticking to the Archie comics line, and only ever started in the first place because my pal gifted me Man Ray haha. Plus the turtles in that Mirage line have the classic red mask look, so it’s just like buying 4 of the same figure. Holding out for whatever other figures release in this Archie line, whenever the heck that may be.

Do any of yall have any “holy grail” toys? I have a few from my childhood that I’d love to get back. Off the top of my head:
1. 1993 TMNT Giant Mutations Donatello
2. Mighty Max - Storms Dragon Island
3. Mighty Max - Trapped in Skull Mountain
4. Batman Returns - 12-16 inch Batman figure (not sure on height)
5. SWAT Kats - T-Bone and Razor

Nothing huge here but figured I’d post them up anyhow. My buddy’s a mad man with collecting figures, especially turtles figures, and snags any he finds whether he has them or not. He gifted me these 4 classic TMNT figures yesterday because they were doubles in his collection. Incomplete but still neat to have. Leo, Raph, Rat King & Muckman.

Damn those do look awesome. And I hate to say it, but $150 isn't so bad for all 4. I do wish Neca would figure something out as far as supply and demand goes, you have to believe a lot of those sold solely to be REsold. Although it does say that a limited supply would be released daily for 21st-23rd, so maybe there's still hope?
And it's apparently a SDCC exclusive but they're selling online?

Its only going to be available at the SDCC but they did a presale this week to "get" it if you cant be at the con. They are also selling Keno from the 2nd movie.
Im sure theyll both go on sale for the general public a year from now or so in a different pack. But it will be the same limited stuff. It always is.
