So most people at one time were complaining about digital games and how physical games are the way to go for various reasons. (Collecting, trading, selling & so on)

Also the release of a digital game did not bring down the price of its physical counterpart at all.

Now that the 3ds & WiiU eshops are closing for good! People seem to be going crazy to try and buy up digital copies of games as well as there physical counterparts (if there is one) in fear or hopes that the prices on the physical games will shoot up in price.

My question why is this even happening? when most don't seem to care about digital games and would rather have the physical copy instead? Also, why would the physical 3ds/WiiU games shoot up in price just because the digital storefront is now closed if most people didn't care about digital games to begin with?

Maybe there are certain games/content that are exclusively digital?

Tons of people go mostly digital. I hate digital but I see why people do it. In some cases the physical copy of a game may be $30, $40, $50 or more while digital may be $5 (thinking of "limited run" stuff).

Look at TV, music, and movies. They are consumed digitally a vast majority of the time. And practically all new TV, music, and movies are made available to watch on one or more streaming platforms before or at the same time the physical media is released (if the physical copy is released at all).

Microsoft is trying to push subscription gaming over purchase gaming with some success, but the sheer volume of available games to buy versus what is available on gamepass is keeping that model at bay for now.

Once we get to the point where almost all new games are available as part of a subscription service, I think we will see the practical end of physical media for games.

We are already there on PC and it didn't take a subscription service (though i did enjoy gametap back in the day) , just the convenience of 99% of everything people wanted being in one place (Steam) and massive sales every so often.

I hope one day Nintendo develops a NEW 3DS. One with better graphics and abilities. I have a Nintendo Switch Lite. It just not the same experience.

I'll say this about the DS lite, I was WAY more into it than the Switch. There have been Switch games I've played a ton, but something about the DS really had me hooked.

I have a message for Nintendo. Many of us still love these old games. Reopen the Wii U and 3DS EShops.

All are valid points! But with physical you own it. With digital you just own the license and the digital games can be delisted at anytime.

The part I like about digital (I have music, movies, tv shows, comics digitally) is the convenience of storing a bunch of games all in one place. Saves money and space too. Don't have to worry about the upkeep of digital games like you do with physical. Lord forbid if you had a theft or fire and lost everything to that.

I think each has its pros and cons

With the state in which some of the games are released nowadays, physical can be as good as having a coaster. Every day I lean more toward digital, tbh.

It's crazy to think about that. Even ps4 disc are downloaded to the console instead of on the disc sadly.

I know this might seem silly, but I would sign a petition to get the EShop back.

I have good news for 3DS and Wii U owners. They extended the closing to April 4.

I believe it’s only for code redemption.
