I'm going to be visiting Japan in May. Visiting Japan is expensive, so I'm trying to sell some stuff I have around to get some additional funds. I'm digging around in boxes to see what I can part with so i'll be updating the thread as I uncover more stuff.
However, i am also open to trades because I am a bit of a sicko.

@Lunar the general plan is to spend 6 or so days in various parts of Tokyo then spend 6 days in Osaka, hitting up different cities via train every day from there. Haven't nailed the exact route down yet but that's the general plan

First time?
We did Osaka/Kyoto/Nara as a clump last time around, We got a Airbnb place in Osaka, love it. It's cheaper than Tokyo and there are multiple Super Potatoes in Osaka, make sure to check them out.
There's also a video game bar in Osaka you should def check out, they got systems on the bar counter, and arcade PCBs on walls. Pretty chill place.

I’m always happy to trade Japan tips.
Japan is historically cheap right now with the yen being very weak against the dollar. So food is going to be pretty cheap most places, and Osaka is a great place to get some food.
If you want to do Disney and can only do one park, Disney Sea is typically the better park. If you’re trying to go to the Ghibli museum, I think tickets go up in April for May, but they sell out fast.
And yeah, I echo that Super Potato in Osaka is fantastic.

Do you guys speak / read Japanese?
Speaking, I can manage conversational.
Reading is harder but I'm Chinese so I'm cheating the kanji a bit. Ironically, in Osaka, Chinese helped me a lot more than English. Alot of people in Osaka speak Chinese.

Nice. I took 2 years of Japanese in college and I can pick up the main ideas conversational and read it mostly- except kanji I’m very limited in. I could definitely get by but likely would get scammed or something.

@LastEpoch I don't think we are going to Disney, but I do think we are going to go to Universal Studios.
And no one in our group can speak any Japanese at all so that will be fun. Not worried about it though, Google translate will be our friend.

I can’t speak that much Japanese, and I’ve been able to go just fine 5 times. Google Translate is going to be your best friend. Especially the camera function. So do your research for a Universal Studios. There’s a bunch of different rides and bundles that it gets really confusing.

@LastEpoch @Lunar any advice for bringing things back? I'd like to bring a load of stuff back (and i'm sure the people i'm traveling with will too) so i'm trying to think of a cost effective way to do that.
I had thought about trying to buy a cheap suitcase while i'm there and then check it at the airport on my way back, or something like that.

Buy luggage over there. Should be cheaper than here. There’s this place called Ginza Karen with good quality luggage for the price. Or you can get cheap luggage at Don Quixote.

Also, do most of your shopping near the end so you don’t have to carry all your goods with you the whole time, especially when you move between cities.
