Cheapest possible smartphone

I'm trying to see if it'll be worth it for me to get a smartphone. I'm not even asking for that much, I don't need the latest and greatest, as anything will be an upgrade to my 2yr old Nokia 5310. I'm mainly looking for something that runs android or ios. The price should be no more than about $100. My 5310's battery is dieing so that's the main reason I'm upgrading. I don't want to open a 2yr plan with a new phone, because then I'll be forced to buy a dataplan which I don't need. I live in Manhattan, so I'm constantly bombarded by wifi signals anyway. Does anybody have any suggestions as to the cheapest, barebones smartphone w/o contract. I'd also like to know if there is a good place to buy one.

I think Sprint does a $60 or $70 unlimited monthly no contract. They usually have good phones. Not sure on their service though, I'm on Verizon contract

Hmm, another option is the Samsung Instinct (which they have been advertising pretty heavily on the subway) for $249, with a $25 a month contract.
But to tell you the truth, I would probably like to keep it on a family plan, or perhaps regular prepaid. I really don't care how old this phone is. Perhaps I should even consider getting the original iphone. The recessed headphone jack won't bother me, because I won't use it as an ipod, and the absence of 3g also doesn't matter, because I'll be using wifi. If I just get an original iphone, how much can I expect to pay?

With a phone that old though, can you really expect the battery to last longer than the one you have now? They came out in '07-ish, and my guess is that you're going to have a hard time finding a brand new one.
Edit: The iPhone, that is.

Hi. You are correct, but I suppose that a battery change will not cost much.
As for the iphone 2g, of course I don't expect to get a new one. A used one will be fine.

I heard the IDEOS Smart Phone is the cheapest to buy. But there may be a cheaper one depending on what plan you get. If you buy it straight the IDEO I think is somewhere between $100-150. I have one, it is great
but I have small fingers. I love it over an normal phone.

hi, thanks for looking around, but that $97 is with a new 2yr contract, which I do not intend to sign.
