So I picked up FFXII Zodiac Age CE on sale, Steam edition (largely to get the statues). Yet, now this is making me want to play it.
I played and finished FFXII on release a lifetime ago. Started the Zodiac Age when it was released on Switch, only got a few hours in.
Anyone play this on PC? Any mods worthwhile to look in to before I get underway?
Still not sure If I'll play this or Crisis Core first, but I've always looked forward to revisiting XII.
Also, random side note as I know nothing about Zodiac Age. I remember way back when, one of the best weapons (a spear?) was missed if you opened some early chest in the game (thank you guides back then!). Is that still a thing in this re-release?
Thanks!

Lots of QoL changes. I do recall there was a glitch with a weapon due to the chest mechanics- that’s fixed. One of the best changes is you get two boards / classes per toon (12 classes) now instead of only one shareable to all and only 6 classes. Also trial mode- if you get to the last level you fight all 12 judges at once.

Please tell me they called this the "Supreme Court" fight.

I feel like I'm way out of the loop here. What's the deal with these Pixel remasters? Are they any good? What all did they update? Most importantly, which version of FFIV did they remaster?

Not sure why I said 12. There were 5 I think. I just had xii on the mind.

All the games are based on their original releases. They don't include any of the new mechanics, bonus dungeons, or other original content from the GBA, PSP, DS, or mobile ports. There's a theory that it'll be released as DLC at some point, but I would have expected that announcement by now.
It's all new 16-bit-ish sprite art, and the translations have been refreshed, but otherwise, the gameplay content remains virtually unchanged, except for some minor tweaks and bug fixes. The soundtracks have all gotten a major overhaul with a modern instrumentation, and what I've heard so far is pretty amazing. Digital Foundry has complained about an odd refresh rate and slowdown, which seems inexcusable, but I don't know how serious it is.
The biggest sin so far, other than the missing bonus content, seems to be the default font. Square used the same font for English text as for Japanese, so it's ridiculously narrow and wastes a ton of space. If you're on PC, you can easily swap it out.

The one change I appreciated most from the NES to GBA conversion of FF1 was that if your selected enemy target was dead when you attacked it, then you would attack another one instead of the dead one while "INEFFECTIVE" appeared on screen.
They left the option in to change it back but I don't know of anyone who did

I think that's considered a bug that was fixed.
There was also a peninsula in FF1 that was supercharged with powerful monsters, which people used for quick leveling. It's stayed that way through a bunch of re-releases, but because it was originally a bug, I think they removed it from this version.

These are remakes. They're identical to one another, these aren't remasters, the soundtracks, pixel artwork and UNFORTUNATELY THE FONTS are all new.

I never finished Crisis Core on PSP. I remember just not liking it. Finally starting Reunion and I'm not sure I'll stick with it. The acting is awful, the combat is repetitive... I dunno, is it worth it?
"Activating Combat Mode" God I wish I could shut that off.

I mean, the combat doesn't have any hidden latent progressions. If you're not down with it now you won't be for another X hours

I feel like I need to see the story, given the whole remake of the 7 series. Sure I could YT it... But at least it doesn't seem all that long. Maybe I'll try to avoid all the side stuff and try to focus on the story.
Kinda want to go play XII or be a complete idiot and goto XIV.

I haven’t tried the newest XIV expansion. Overwhelming amount of new content. Too much other new stuff to get stuck in that.

If I ever had spare cash month-to-month, I’d be all over FFXIV. Always wanted to get into that game.

6 hours in, Crisis Core is growing on me. Except for Zack... Man he reminds me of Tidus. Whiny and annoying. They clearly were influenced by Luke and Anakin.
Shame that the graphics didn't get as much love as FF7. Still good, but feels... I don't know, rushed/compressed in comparison.
The materia fusion system is awesome. Love all the dark spells. Just watched the Genesis and Sephiroth battle, that was fun.

I really want to start this but I’m hooked on Ys VIII again and monster hunter incoming.

I know it’s not necessarily a Final Fantasy, but the remastered Legend of Mana is $15 on the eshop right now and I’m very much thinking if snagging it.
Anyone have it? Is it good stuff?
